On his way home after losing his job, Shayne’s bad day goes farther downhill when a truck slams into him. The sexy man who pulls him from the wreckage, seeing him at his lowest, is either the best or worst thing to happen to Shayne in a long time.
Challenge accepted…
While Lincoln feels guilty for totaling Shayne’s car, he can’t regret having met the man. Something about Shayne calls to him on a new level and brings out a side in him even Lincoln can’t explain.
When these two opposites collide it’s only a matter a time before one falls.
Shayne’s first love will always be hockey. With the out-of-work goalie on the hunt for a new team, Lincoln knows their time together is short-lived. It’ll take a veteran player to sneak past the guard on Lincoln’s heart, but Shayne is up for the fight.

This one didn't blow me away, it was far too short and insta-lovey for that, but it left me intrigued enough to read the sequels. Maybe they will contain more of Shayne and Lincoln's relationship. They ended on a firm HFN, but I just have to have a HEA for a book to end right.
Also, I kept getting the characters all mixed up in my head, and I don't think that's my old lady brain coming out to play. Which guy is the cop? Which is the hockey player? Who is getting arrested and for what reason? How does Grady know Ryker? Huh? Etc.
It's bad enough that M/M Romance stories don't accurately reflect testosterone-fueled gay men but this Gay-For-You fiction has the male characters narrated by a woman. I guess it might as well be a woman as it's a fantasy-based book (there is no such thing as gay4you only degrees of heterosexuality and homosexuality) could ever be anything but a hollow comic book.
Charity Parkerson should be sent to Harlequin until she understands she needs to use male narrators for gay male love stories and use the Kinsey scale instead of Gay for You: Gay For You authors quit writing Fantasy and please familiarize yourselves with the Kinsey Scale (above) so you can see how using a scientific basis and stopping the fantasy labeling people can give you a real plot.
This was pretty much a mess. Let me save you some time. The two MCs meet when the doctor causes a car crash. The doctor character was supposed to be closed off emotionally but we don't know why and he made the hockey player laugh. Doc took hockey guy home because he had no one to call. The hockey player has two cracked ribs, a sprained ankle and is on painkillers but manages to jerk off over the hot doctor after a couple hours. The next day they do errands. When they get back, hockey guy's two best friends (he had no one to call from the hospital? WTF?), show up at his house. Then they all go to a nightclub and meet characters from a prior series, for no apparent reason. Then one of the BFs, who is a straight cop, is silently questioning his sexuality over the male underwear model who had dated someone he was trying to arrest. The arrestee, another hockey player, is in the club, fights with the second BF, who's also a hockey player and the cracked rib hockey player carries him out. Apparently being a hockey player means he is immune to sprained ankles too. The cop has an arrest warrant but doesn't call it in and allows the bad guy to leave as long as he turns himself in. Oh, and he's been stalking the male model besides whatever he was being arrested for, which we never find out and have no clue if he turned himself in. Then the doc and hockey guy go home and jerk off together. The next day, the straight cop is at the models house making out. Then it's suddenly eight weeks later and the doctor and the hockey player have never discussed the hockey player's interview with a team on the other coast. So they have never had sex because what's the point if hockey guy's leaving (WTF?). Hockey boy and Doc then have sex (no foreplay but at least there was a condom and lube) and the hockey player says he's staying. Actually, I was so underwhelmed, I can't remember anyones name, except they were kind of weird and dumb. The end.

I'm confused about the purpose of this story? It basically introduces a few characters that have their own books coming in the series, but the POV kept switching between the couple in this story and one of their friends, which was really jarring!
With a book this short I'd prefer the whole thing to be about the couple, not some random side quest that didn't really fit. Even then, this was like instalove/lust in the first paragraph - it was really unbelievable, and the Dr seemed really unethical but no one batted an eye?
I can tell this writer is going to be like snack food to me, yummy, fast and fluffy (even with dark themes as some of Parkerson's books seem have)
I can't say if these books weren't on Kindle Unlimited I would by them but I am happy to graze on them as part of my subscription.
So, we have a cute meet car crash, banter, insta love, a doctor, a hockey player, chemistry and there we good.
The plot is decent but feels like what it is a platform for launching a series. I like the interplay between the heroes but we don't get the depth of falling love and relationship here.
Edit: After reading part of book two I see that this is in fact an on going series and all the MCs contribute to each book. So my original notes are redacted .I guess I'm spoiled from her later books and this one just felt messy. I liked (what little) I saw and got to know of Shayne and Lincoln. They had potential for a lot more sass and wit. I just hated the two month time jump.
I had no idea what to expect when I read Collide, but it wasn’t the feel good, sweet and sexy, but kind of funny story that I got. Just from the title and the blurb alone, I was under the impression it was going to be a bit angsty. I was looking forward to the angst, but wasn’t disappointed with what I got instead, if that makes any sense.
I think what I loved so much was Lincoln and his over-the-top personality. He knew how to take a bad situation and see the positives, and even make it funny. Poor Shayne had lost his career and gets into an accident on the same day, but somehow his knight in scrubs was able to make him smile, make him feel, and make him happy. How is it possible to have the best day of your life on one that should have been your worst? Lincoln was that kind of man.
This was a short but very enjoyable read, one that I read straight through in one sitting and finished with a smile on my face. I was looking for angst, but what I got was a lovely story of two men who completed each other, made my heart happy, and left me looking forward to the next book in this new series.
No,no,no! No,no! Just no! You can't tease us like that, and than make us wait until 9/14 for Grady&Ryker's story...OK,you actually can,but...but...that's not nice :( .
Oh,wait, this is the story about Lincoln and Shayne...oh,well,you know the premise, but what you don't know is that they have the most beautiful eyes that the other one has ever seen. Thrown in a little bit of insta-lust (OK,lot of it) there and maybe insta-love too (I don't know anymore) and, for the short story like this, suprprisingly not one-dimensional characters and you'll get Collide. I really enjoyed this short story, and I liked the author's writing style - it was refreshing, different than in most romantic books I've read (this is my first one by CP).
Back to what's really important - I NEED Grady&Ryker's story like...yesterday! Believe me,one short scene between those too was so POTENT that I just know I'll be counting days until their book is released!
I didn’t care for this . It just seemed to jump from scene to scene. I never felt connected to any of the characters. I just discovered I bought the audiobook for the sequel and it’s read by a woman.
I was desperate for a series and I decided to give it a try. Collide is the start to a new series whose one drawback is that each installment is short. That being said, I think Parkerson maybe she knew that was the appropriate length for her series. Was it perfect, nope but I was intrigued enough to look forward to the next one.
Sometimes things have to go wrong before they can go right.
Collide is Charity Parkerson's first book in a new series, Hard Hit. Shayne Smith was having a really bad day. First, he looses his job and then he gets T-boned by a truck. Things start to look up when a sexy doctor is the one to pull him out of his crumpled car. Dr Lincoln Linette is a reserved and quiet man who is always doing for others first. But there is just something about the battered hockey player that makes him want to play and causes the most outrageous things to fly out of his mouth.
"Meeting him had been a collision of fate." I really enjoyed watching these two men finding each other. Both are more dissatisfied with their lives than they realize until they meet each other and begin to dream about what could be. Collide had me chuckling at their antics more than once. We are also introduced to the rest of the guys and get to visit with a few old friends from the Ugly Eternity series. I'm *not* so patiently for the next one so I can "catch up" with them all and see how their lives are going.
Once again, Charity Parkerson has created a world where that you don't want to leave and want to visit again and again.
I was a beta-reader for this title. All opinions are true, honest, and completely my own.
New to me author. This is a mm contemporary story set in USA. I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by a women, wrong just wrong. There is instant love and not believable timelines. It’s a no from me.
I needed a quick, no-brain listen before going to bed and decided to go with this new to me author. I'll admitt I only looked at the length and the genere of the book. I should've looked a bit closer.
It's narrated by a woman!! I have nothing against female narrators, but some books they should not narrate, MM books in particular. I mean what the hell? MM books should not be narrated by women! What were they thinking? Needless to say, I'm looking for something else to listen to before bed.
I was cruising along, really loving the story and the characters, then it just ended. Completely out of the blue, feeling like mid-story. The story itself was a little instalove, but I was really enjoying the growing bond between them when it just completely cut off. A third of the story was dedicated to the side characters and setting up the rest of the series.
I loved this so much. It pulled me in on the first page and I couldn't put it down. It may be a short book but there was so much character development and so many funny parts. I absolutely love the characters... all the flirting made me laugh and smile through basically the entire book. Lincoln and Shayne are both such amazing characters, it makes me wish the book was longer, but I'm sure we'll get to see them at least a little in the next book. Completely fantastic. I will definitely read this one again.
I was unable to connect with the characters. This story wasn't for me, but most seem to really like it so it may just be me. The guys instantly fell for each other and started dreaming about being with the other. I just didn't have time to make the connection I guess. Again most love the book so it's very possible that you will too.
This one might have hooked me a little more than the other series.
Lincoln and Shayne quite literally collide with each other. Interested to see more from the side characters, which I assume will have their own stories too.
I didn't check the publishing date but I'm guessing this was one of Charity's earlier works. Because though I enjoyed Shayne and Lincoln's story, it didn't have the same spark as Charity's other books.
Collide (Hard Hit, #1) by Charity Parkerson Shayne Smith has had a horrible day, after ten years, he was let go from his minor-league hockey team. Then on his way home a truck smashes into his car. Lincoln Linette feels responsible for hitting Shayne’s car; he is compelled to stick by him after the accident.
Collide is a great start to this new series by Charity Parkerson.
My heart really went out to Shayne. Talk about bad days. He loves hockey and to be let go from a team you were with for ten years would be an ultimate emotional letdown. To top it off he gets in a car accident, which ends up being a blessing in disguise because he meets Lincoln. I love Shayne’s attitude, which is in line with a lot of goalies I know. They seem to be good at not letting things get to them and moving forward. I like that he brings out a less serious side of Lincoln.
I respect Lincoln for looking after Shayne. Okay I know he has ulterior motives, but they did have an awkward start. As a doctor, it is no wonder that he is concerned for his health, but he goes way beyond what would be expected of anyone in their situation. He is hard working to a fault and good at his job. I like that he lightens up after meeting Shane.
I like that Shayne and Lincoln instantly hit it off, despite Lincoln hitting Shayne’s car. It probably helped that Shayne is so laid back, and Lincoln is nurturing.
Charity Parkerson did a great job with the plot fitting in a lot of information into this short story. There are some other things going on with the novella that will nicely lead into the next book in the series (Grady and Ryker’s story). Collide was an enjoyable quick read.
I'm torn about what to say about this book. There are so many things that I don't like.... Instalove; no background information explaining things we're told; discrepancies like he has no one to call but the next day we meet his two best friends. And most of all the amazing way that he can ignore being in severe pain at times. Etcetera....
Plus the chapters that have nothing to do with these characters at all but instead were the beginning of book 2. Ugh!!
Despite all those things and despite all those things I did like the characters and wanted to know more. I will be reading book two because a) I have already bought it and b) I have already begun their story in this book. I will also probably not cancel my preorder of book three either. But I reserve judgment on that decision until after I read book two.
this was a good read. However i felt a bit disappointed as the blurb made me feel like there may have been some against in this book. however the two characters seemed to have fallen into love at no time at all and one even changed his whole career to be with the other, even though they hadnt discussed their futures or how they felt for each other. i would have atleast seen Shayne's unease about his possibility about not being with Lincoln or Hockey.
the only part i really feel into way Gray and Ryker. they seem to suck me in more than the main character, which is why i look forward to reading their story.
With all that said, i did enjoy the book and i hope i see lincoln and shayne in book 2 so i can feel a better connection with them.
“Sometimes desire was insane like that. Lust had a way of demanding everything.”
In Charity Parkerson’s , Collide (Hard Hit Book 1), we are introduced to Shayne and Lincoln. Shayne is having one of the worst days of his life…losing his job, getting hit by a car, and now in the hospital. Lincoln is not only the doctor on call, but the person who crashed into Shayne…in more ways than one. Their instant connection makes you believe in love at first sight. I fell hard for Lincoln, and in just a few short pages, the author gets you to care for the characters. There is a lot going on in this short read, and I look forward to devouring this series!!
Too much going on for such a short story. I understand it is the first in a new series but the story was short enough without taking pages away from the MC's to introduce the couple for the next book. Insta-love works for me in a lot of cases but I had trouble following this one. I gave it three stars because I did really like Shayne and Lincoln, and the writing was good.
Uhm, it was cute but the insta-love was not believable. I liked the conversation between the MCs especially the sexting but the plot was lacking for me. I wish the author would have milked it a little bit more.
I was hoping for hot, rough sex but I was a bit disappointed.
