I got this book second hand off Ebay last month. If you'd used to live in London in the early to mid 90's and used to read the funnies in the newspaper and then read this, rather you're a kid who'd loved Sonic, or had kids who were into him, you'd reckon that the story book is an imitation of the newspaper comics due to how Sonic sometimes talks so fast in the story book. Well. not quite. In fact, that book was developed from the same author as the one whom did those newspaper comics and also the Fleetway series.
But unlike those newspaper comics, the art work done for the story book was well detailed, bright and colourful.
Anyway, I only got to read it twice, but while it still have some physical action in the matter of good fighting evil, which would be domestically violent, but it's still fun to view and some of the forth wall breaks were quite amusing. Won't match up to the little mermaid, little red riding hood, or Cinderella due to the story writing bring rather cheesy, but it's still a far better read than the story books of Mario by a landslide.
Not only did Sonic dominate Mario in the 16 bit era. but also in story books based on video games, and this book is no exception. if you haven't read of Sonic in the U.K canon, I strongly recommend this one. I've seen many issues of the comic series from Fleetway, but the comics ain't so younger kid friendly compared to this story book.
If those comics and books were based on visions of another reality in the universe or a different one, I'd say this story maybe another extension to Sonic's.

It's not a bad origin story. Really creative direction with illustrations.

From this cover it's exactly what you expect. In this series it's exactly what you expect. I think the cover is a little simple but it's eye catching enough for what you would expect.
Interior

If you've read the Michael Teitelbaum series this isn't that. This is more Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon to Michael's Satam version.
Expect a lot of egg puns and more wall breaking than even the cartoon could accomplish. It's unique, answering questions you probably never had like origin story when Dr. Robotnik originally named Doctor Ovi Kintobor becoming a villain and how Sonic turned blue. It is interesting note that those Chilli dogs are Chilli Cheeseburgers and extra fries.
It is a decent enjoyable read and kind of nice having most of it told by Tails. Like the cartoon chaos. More controlled here but still chaos.

A breezy little illustrated story book that tells the origin story of Sonic the Hedgehog with little quips from Sonic and Tails throughout. This is the UK canon so you get some variances to Robotnik's origins. This means he starts out as a good scientist called Dr. Kintobor before being corrupted after experimenting on the chaos emeralds. Certainly interesting if you're more familiar with US or Japanese canon.
