Tales of The Nothing Man

Rate this book
* A person, against all odds, who continues to function or prosper in spite of opposition, hardship, or setbacks. Someone who outlives the others. * A universal or widespread destruction or disaster. The end of civilization. A cataclysm in which the forces of evil significantly outweigh those of good. * The body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and willless for but one the consumption of human flesh. A creature of no prejudice, no bias and no fear. ** What is it? Define it. Not anything. No thing. Nothing remains of what once was. Once defined, becomes something. Once a man, but now a void of emotion. Between these pages, we promise no answers. What we do, is offer tales of despair, pain and loss. We share stories of courage, strength and humanity. Scattered survivors in a shattered dead world set upon individual quests. Seven strangers with no common thread, weaving a patchwork quilt of survival with little more than one single because they must. The man who they have all seen. The man they seek. The man who is nothing, intertwines them. HARK! We promise you nothing. The Nothing Man ABOUT THE AUTHOR Residing in Western Australia, Brothers Dunne is the collective pen name of Aussies Justin and Robert Dunne, the creators of The Nothing Man. An interesting fact about Brothers they are identical twins. They have both been writing their entire lives; both with beautiful wives and children; both surrounded by good friends and family (obviously); both with amazing imaginations and the ability to convey stories. After publishing several successful short stories, the two brothers revealed a project they'd secretly worked on for several years aptly named Tales of The Nothing Man. Tales of The Nothing Man is their first full length novel. Showcasing their ability to combine prose, horror, and gut-wrenching emotion, Brothers Dunne begin their literary travels across the zombie apocalypse. But it won't end here, my friends. They have several more rabbits to pull from their hats for you. So read... enjoy... relax... ...until Brothers Dunne say "stop". REVIEWS "The Nothing Man leaves you wanting for... well... Nothing. A well written, unique take on the z-poc. The Dunne brothers have a hit!" ~Mark Tufo, best-selling author of the Zombie Fallout series.

What seem like separate disjointed tales of individuals struggling to overcome their worst fears, become melded together through the appearance of the mysterious nothing man, and the all seeing crow. Each individual story is dark, the characters are flawed and scared, the parts come together to become form a group that are still in search of the nothing man, who each credits with saving their lives in their darkest hours.

This is like nothing i've read before, the writing style varies from tale to tale to suit the personality that is being conveyed and it all comes together to form a really unique book that should be must read of any Zombie officianado or anyone who wants to see inside the darker side of the human psyche

Amazing prose

Tales of The Nothing Man is a short book filled with awesome prose that is about nothing and everything at the same time. This book is unlike any other zombie book I have read. The writing in this book is on another level. It took me longer to read this book than usual because I needed to take in this writing. As another reviewer wrote it is like poetry at times. There are a series of short stories that introduce the various characters. Later in the book the tales merge as the characters become a unit. The characters are very well developed and all have their faults and demons. I found myself pulling for every one of them. Each one is uniquely different from the rest. An interesting part is that there is very little dialogue between the characters yet it fits the story. Most dialogue is internal. The pace is good and the story moves along smoothly. The Nothing Man is a mute observer and possible savior who brings everyone together. There is a good amount of action and gore which is never excessive. This book will remain in my thoughts and I'm excited to see what comes next. The authors have such great talent and this is highly recommended.

Just who is The Nothing Man?

Avenging angel? Ghostly apparition? Savior? Demon? All of these or perhaps nothing at all? The Nothing Man strides through the zombie apocalypse, touching survivors lives in very different ways. How will he touch yours? This book reads much like a collection of short stories with a central theme which winds poetically through the lives of a group of survivors somehow brought together in their search for him. Strength and desperation combined in the midst of a hopeless situation = this story left me with a feeling reminiscent of Stephen King's The Long Walk. Decidedly not your typical zombie story, this book must truly be experienced as words do not do it justice.

I wasn’t really sure what I was getting into when I picked up this book. The description is kind of vague, and there were only a few reviews when it first found it’s way into my kindle back in July. Mark Tufo had given it two thumbs up, so I figured it must be worth a read. Right from the first couple of pages, I was impressed by the writing style of the authors and their ability to make you feel the emotions of the characters. Then, just a few pages in, I read a couple of lines that I had to stop and reread several times.

“We witnessed loved ones dying first hand. We stood by while the life left their eyes, and we closed them again after death had reopened them.”

BAM! That hit me hard right in the feels. I felt empathy as a human being identifying with the loss of someone near and dear to me, and I also felt a little jealousy, as a writer. While those two lines in particular really stood out to me, the entire book had a real poetic flow to it. There are several stories that, at first, seem to stand alone, as if you are reading a collection of short stories with a common character, but they come together and culminate in a crescendo with a vibe that feels more like an epic concept album than a horror tale. Don’t get me wrong; this book is definitely horror, with zombies and gore aplenty, but there were times that I was so caught up in the emotional depth of the characters and the quality of the writing that I was honestly surprised when the undead showed up.

The words “zombie” and “fresh” seldom go hand-in-hand, and, as far as the zombies are concerned, there isn’t anything new here. They are the same pulseless, cannibalistic humans we all know and love. What is fresh in Tales of the Nothing Man are the unique characters. the stories they have to tell, and the masterful manner in which Justin and Robert Dunne have given us those tales. Five stars and two thumbs up for their debut novel!

Somebody told me this story would be like nothing I've ever read before, especially when it comes to zombie fiction. I have to say, that is true. I loved this book. Why? The writing style is very appealing to me. The authors are true artists when it comes to the written word. They kept me genuinely intrigued and surprised at the depth in which the story is written. The insights, the little gems of wisdom and humor, and the level of character development made me want more. The story is mysterious, a little creepy, and somewhat philosophical. To me, it's almost like Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe, and the makers of the Twilight Zone got together and decided to collaborate on a story. I say "almost" because that is a pretty grand comparison, but the talent is definitely there and these authors are full of the potential to make a name for themselves in the literary world. Exceptional story--and even more exceptional because it is their first full-length book. I look forward to reading more of their work.

nothing else like it

Can you imagine the worst apocalyptic scenarios? Alone and in trouble, at the end of the line, nothing left to give...cue the Nothing Man. But like life, nothing is black and white, and the mystery of the story was, in itself thoroughly addicting. Just when you think you have the lay of the land, the vision changes and you just can't put the book down. The individual stories of surviving against all hope enmesh thread by thread in this epic tale. I was captivated from the start, the Dunne's have a gift for prose that is pure magic. You find yourself completely immersed in the struggles of the characters and the situations they find themselves in. I started reading and lost the day, happily, within the world they bring to vivid life in their debut novel. I am hooked and ready for more.

I've read the other reviews on this book, and they are NOT wrong. This Tale is something different, something absolutely special in this apocalyptic zombie genre. It's poetic in its writing style, and grips you so hard, you won't...no.. Can't put it down. The characters all come to life in each of their own chapters. They have Nothing in common except for some mysterious force bringing them together. These survivors are strong, brave, crazy, and afraid. Is the Nothing Man real? Has he brought them all together for one main purpose? You need to read this book. I promise you, it will keep you thinking, pondering, long after you've finished reading.

Short and horrifying....This really is an interesting book and twist that the Brothers did.

It starts with each character's stories and how the fold together. While they have no names it works because your still rooting for them. Oh and yeah the Crow's POV was just classic!

It's quite thought provoking how you would question if this is how you would react if fighting the undead if the occasion ever happens with this group of characters

This is an easy read all the way through and great for the zombie fans. I highly recommend grabbing this and figuring out The Nothing Man
