Imagine a high-strung, comfort loving hitwoman at a rustic spiritual retreat.
Things are finally looking up for Maggie Lee.
Her almost-lover Patrick is taking steps (albeit deadly ones) to insure they’ll have a future together, her niece Katie is about to be released from the hospital, her sister Marlene has stopped turning tricks and started tossing pizzas, and Maggie has a chance to land a new (legal) job.
If only God would stop hounding her to apologize to her mother, Maggie would be pretty close to content with her life.
When Maggie agrees to take out a new target, using a spiritual retreat as her cover story, she ends up with a spoon (long story), an odd, selectively mute roommate, and a chance to save a life.
As Maggie struggles to balance all the important people in her life and deliver on the deadly contract, she begins to believe that God may be right about the act of contrition he’s demanded…but will she live long enough to do it?
I really feel like the author has redeemed herself with this book. After the last couple of Hitwoman books, I was kind of done with the series. However, after reading this book, I am once again eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.
Another winner in the Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman series. This book is fun and funny while Maggie continues facing a bit too much reality in her life - from becoming Katie's "mom" to killing people for a mobster. And what about romance? Her murder mentor still wants her, but does she want someone who would literally kill for her? Somehow all these tangents make sense and makes you love Maggie even more as you root for her to be successful.
This is one of my favorite series and I strongly recommend it. While it is a stand alone novel, the series is so great that you really owe it to yourself to read them all.
Maggie still owes Godzilla one act of contrition. She is struggling big time with his request but growing up a lot more. Anthony/Tony hires her for a job that she's going to need more than dumb luck to complete. The perfect cover for it is a retreat recommended by Aunt Leslie where she meets a new friend. Mags and Patrick explore their relationship more and try not to get caught. Marlene has a new job and Armani is still recovering from her kidnapping. Maggie is working on her skills for bringing Katie home and struggles with feelings that she won't be able to do it and end up in the loony bin. Another fun quick read.
Ok the premise and characters of this series are outstanding but the way the author is splitting the story keeps it from being worth 3 or 4 stars. Taking 10 books to only get this far in the story, with no resolution in sight, is very frustrating.
Each book is less than 200 pages and seems to pick up plot wise a day or 2 from where the previous one ended. From what I can see on Amazon, there are over 40 books so far in the series! I don’t know how far I’ll make it to be honest— I love the characters but with that many books and no end in sight, it seems like the author doesn’t have a handle on where she wants the story to go.
Maggie takes another jobs. This one I 100% support. The mark is despicable. She meets a new friend and a new potential love interest along the way. Sounds like Patrick's wife is leaving him. Not sure I believe it. Zeke had to leave again.
I thought this was a good one with her trying to help everyone. She does her best. I wonder if she grabbed the bag that the lady gave her. How much was the bonus? I mean gosh there is some loose ends that should be tied up.
I've enjoyed the series. Somehow our heroine fumbles through unbelievable situations. Lots of family angst and lots of laughs. Stephanie Plumes-esque. My only critique is all the grammatical and spelling errors.
Getting a bit redundant. I skipped several books and still found it not very exciting or funny. Books are VERY short. I am now skipping to Book 18 to see what is happening.
Although the book was dedicated to forgiveness, it made sure that you knew that some crimes were beyond that. It gave you a different reason to love silence.
Again this is an enjoyable series. Fun is the word. Great characters just add a little imagination and stir. This was definitely one of the better ones so far. Keep reading!!!
Of the Hitwoman series, this is easily my favorite so far. While in others we are drawn into our Hitwoman's relationships, watching them build, in Contrition we see them mature over the bonfire of forgiveness, in some cases even if that means they must end. I feel this is the most mature book in the series, more time is spent on why the person should die, to me the death, though off screen, if I may, is still the most eloquent and most touching of her assassinations, indeed the most satisfying in a way which ties in to the song of the book (and to me the book does have one which is sung throughout).
If, after reading the other Hitwoman books, you're ready for something a little more touching, a little more soul-searching, a little more responsible, with the same sexy, furry, ironic fun of the other books, Contrition is for you! I'll be back to read this one again. It's smokin'!
If you have been following along with this series you know all about Maggie Lee and if you don't, well Maggie is a hitwoman. She didn't intend to be one it just kind of happened. It all started when she was in a car accident with her sister and her brother in law and her niece. She survived without a scratch. Her sister and Brother in law didn't make it and her niece Katie in a coma with brain trauma. Maggie finds herself the guardian of little Katie and to get her the best care she stumbles into this hitwoman gig. She has a real job too at a insurance company. Between book one and now a whole lot happens to keep Maggie Lee on her toes. Of course just when she thinks she might be getting a hold on her life again something else happens. In this book Maggie finds herself and a spiritual retreat. It's the last thing she want to do but to complete a hit she has taken on a pedofile and all around bad guy she has to bear with it. Patrick her murder mentor/cop/ and maybe lover is there to add moral support and shows steps towards them being together for real someday. He's complicated. Of course her animal menagerie is there, Dee Dee the Doberman Pinscher, Piss the cat and God (short for Godzilla) the lizard. Did i mention Maggie can talk to all of them? Yup and they help out where they can. Sometimes they are Maggie's eyes and ears. Armani her semi psychic friend is there to give her a little direction with her scrabble tiles. If you want to laugh experience a little mystery with it The Hitwoman's Act of Contrition will hit the spot.
Again I thoroughly enjoyed my glimpse into Maggie's crazy world. She amazingly and with much luck (and four-legged assistance) muddles through and comes up a winner. She has an indomitable spirit and I cannot wait to see how her life continues to unfold as I am infinitely curious about where things are headed. Will she and Patrick be able to live happily ever after? Where is Zeke and will he interfere with Maggie's future with Patrick? What will happen with Katie home? Where will Maggie meet the mobsters when Katie isn't at the hospital any longer? Will Susan have a romance of her own? What's up with Templeton, really? Will Marlene be content to settle down with a job and Doc? Can Maggie get out of the WhiteHat situation? and of course, What would happen if Maggie goes to the zoo? I look forward to many more Hitwoman books to answer these questions and get new ones.
I couldn’t wait for the latest Maggie Lee book to come out and this book didn’t disappoint! This series just keeps getting better and better. The crazy aunts are still providing laughs along with the animals and Armani (although Armani’s appearance is very brief in this book). God has a big starring role in this book, which I always enjoy. Patrick is back but I’m not so sure that is a good thing, you can judge for yourself. A new mystery man appears; wait until you find out who he’s related to – I have high hopes for this character! This book is so much fun; it makes me wish the author could write faster!!! I was provided a copy of this book by the Author for my honest review. My view and opinions are my own.
Great Series! This is a great series; this is the tenth book in the Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman series by JB Lynn. This book is just as good as the other books in this series. Maggie Lee is back for another adventure with her crazy family, friends, and pets who she talks too. Maggie’s niece is almost ready to come home and Maggie is still trying to get over her fears of raising her niece. She agrees to take a hit job and attends a spiritual retreat to get close to her target. If you are looking for a fun, humorous book with wonderful characters then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Maggie is back along with the rest of her eccentrically dysfunctional family, friends, & pets. Just as life has started to look up for Maggie she is handed two requests. God (her lizard) asks her to forgive her mother & Mr. D has a new target for her. Poor Maggie's life just starts to swirl again. It's not easy being a daughter, guardian for her orphaned niece, almost girlfriend to Patrick, & hitwoman, but Maggie never gives up.
This series is delightfully quirky & yet heart warming. However, we are left with yet another cliff-hanger. I can only say, "Ms Lynn, write faster!"
Just what I've come to expect from the Neurotic Hitwoman novels - fun, quirky, thrilling - but with a few new things thrown in to keep me guessing. Like who's this Angel guy and how's he going to figure into Maggie's future? I loved him and I hope we see more. And of course, I loved seeing all the secondary characters I've come to love, too. But the series is growing and maturing - without getting staid. I can be with all the people I've come to care about without getting too comfortable. Yay!
I loved this book. Maggie is back with her crazy family and her menagerie with whom she can converse. And her mob boss and his grandson Dominic are in this book as well. What a fun story. The best part of course we're the scenes with Maggie and Patrick. They are meant for each other. I enjoyed this book and wonder how things will be when Katie is ready to come home. Next book can't come soon enough.
Suspend belief more than the others in the series.
I have read all of the books in the series so far, and they started to get more far fetched each time. By this book, I still like the writing style and wanted to know what would happen to the characters, but when it goes too far from reality, it's a concern. This was a little more contrived than the others in the series, but I will definitely get the next one.
I love this series! Maggie is back with laughs and tears. She's coming to terms with a lot of things in her life and moving forward. Each book is better than the last. And yet again, JB introduces another hottie for Maggie. A girl can't have too many!
This book is best enjoyed if you start with the first one in the series. Otherwise you need a scorecard to keep the players straight. While not as funny as some of her other books, this one does move the main characters along, which I appreciate! And no Ms. Whitehat!!
I thought the book went by rather quickly; however, it was a good read! A lot of different scenarios could be played out with the way she left us. Can't wait for the next book.
While I love to keep reading this journey Maggie is I am getting as frustrated as her with her relationship issues. It doesn't that once it really start getting interesting the book is over and to wait for the next one.
Such fun tales or should that be tails? :) JB Lynn continues to build excitement in her fun hitwoman series. My go to reads for escaping too much reality. I just love this series!
Easy to read, but the characters have enough depth to keep the stories from being just brain candy. Two complaints: since discovering the series, I can't get anything else done and SERIOUSLY! Let Patrick and Maggie book up already!!!
