Living day-to-day as a switchboard operator, Evelyn Gardner loathes the sexual cravings that cost her the home and family she’d always dreamed of. When she meets Jimmy Doyle Walker, the sexy first baseman for the Washington Diplomats, at a church revival meeting, he challenges her beliefs and her expectations. Determinedly, he seduces her through erotic letters, sensual gifts, and sexual play, until she dares dream she can have satisfaction and respectability.

Too bad her father, the preacher, seems set on ruining not only their reputations but also their lives.

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Sometimes it is so hard to write a review for a book that just engulfs you and that is Suspended Game by Roz Lee. Honestly I don't read very many historical romances and while some might not consider this historical it takes place in 1940 so to me it qualifies because it takes place before I was born. I wasn't sure what to expect in this book other than from the cover it was obvious it featured some BDSM elements and from the synopsis it was about a professional baseball player back after a scandal that banned him from the game and a woman who had lost her family because she didn't fall into line with her father's preaching. What I got was a well developed, well written story of two people who meet in the most unlikely place and spend time learning not only about each other but themselves all while exploring their darkest desires. Suspended Game features everything I look for in a romance; an intricate plot, characters I want to know and I care about, interesting dialog, just enough drama to make it interesting without bogging down the story, steamy intimate scenes and a relationship that develops out of respect, communication and deep feelings. Author Roz Lee offered all of that and more in this book making it one hell of a story.

Jimmy Doyle Walker is happy to be back playing baseball after he was cleared of charges of illegal betting and he plans on letting nothing get in his way of playing the best he can during this year so he'll get offered a contract to play out the rest of his career. Meeting Evelyn Gardner as a revival of all things should tell him to stay far away but there is something about her that makes him decide to take a chance even if it is obvious to him something in her past is holding her back.

There was so much I loved about this story including that fact that Jimmy Doyle was a gentleman to the core but he was also a dominate man. It was so interesting watching him with Evelyn from the start and guessing she not only was interested in him as a man but also that she had submissive tendencies. As this was a time when people didn't discuss sex and were taught in most churches that there was only one reason for sex I was fascinated by this story. I admired Jimmy for not only seeing things in Evelyn she wouldn't admit at first but also for taking a chance and enticing her through his letters and gifts. I'm not going to lie; I LOVED the aspect of him wooing her with his naughty thoughts and explicit instructions through his letters. (Think long distance domination.) Yes at times the verbiage made me giggle but I also had to remind myself that back then language was not as coarse as it is today especially at the beginning of a relationship. Despite that this book was H-O-T with a lot of self love going on and when they did finally get together it was scorching, not to mention fascinating as Jimmy showed Evelyn that her needs were not sinful or bad but beautiful and natural.

I could go on and on and on about my love for this book but I'm going to stop and just say, please buy it and read it. If you appreciate well written romances that cover all the bases then Suspended Game is a home run; a well written story with intriguing characters and a love that knows no bounds this is one you do not want to miss.

This is a really hot read. If you think BDSM is the newest thing, this book will show you that it has been alive and kicking for a long time. Jimmy Doyle Walker is Hot! (no that isn't a typo, he is hot with a capital "H").

Who knew getting dragged to a revival meeting, would definitely be an answer to his prayers. Her name is Evelyn, and the moment he spots her, he knows. She is his from that moment and she goes quite willingly. Heck, if she didn't I was more than willing to replace her. Well of course that could only happen if I could crawl inside the book.

Hot but sweet at the same time. A fantastic book by an awsome author.

Before I get to my review, I wanted to make clear to the readers that this is a BDSM themed book, just in case this type of book is not what the reader wants to read.

I have to admit, I liked this book, it was very entertaining, moved fast, and the writing was very good.

I’ve read plenty of books with BDSM themes; however I have never read a BDSM themed book that takes place in the 1930s to the 1940s. I’m not sure what the actual year that the book takes place in, but it’s definitely not modern age. I find that a lot of the BDSM books that take place within “today’s” setting, all seem to be similar, and there’s not a lot of surprises, or variety I like that this book was not what I expected, at all.

I liked the characters as well. They were real to me. They were flawed, passionate, and human.

Jimmy Doyle was such a “Dom”, to me. He was commanding, confident, alpha, strong in character, as well as physically. He was self-aware, and he was sensitive, understanding, and patient. He had his flaws, but he knew what his flaws were, and was not embarrassed or ashamed of whom he was, or what his sexual preferences were.

Evelyn was so afraid. She was afraid of what she felt, she was afraid of what people thought, and she was afraid of herself. She didn’t want to admit “her” truth to herself. She tried to be what other people thought she should be, and she was an unhappy woman. She had a vulnerability about her that called Jimmy Doyle to her, and the reader could see it as well as her inner thoughts were revealed to the reader. She was likable because of her insecurities. I could see some aspects of myself in her, and I understood her motives, and actions.

I liked the baseball action that was added to the story. I am not a fan of sports, however, a really good book that has elements of exciting sports action is something that I’m willing to read about and explore.

Readers, take a chance on this book, I assure the reader that they won’t be disappointed.

I liked this story and I didn’t expect to when I realised when it was set. Historical stories are a genre that I generally avoid.
The main 2 characters are likable and in their own way they are strong. They have both experienced being judged cruelly.

Jimmy was banned from playing professional baseball for 5 years for being wrongly accused of illegal gambling.

Jimmy encourages Evelyn to accept that the person she is and like that person. He shows her not just that it is ok to enjoy sex including dom/sub relationship. He helps her accept that she is not the disgrace that her preacher father and husband were convinced that she was.

They are in genuine love with each other which is wonderful after they have both faced shame and cruel judgement by others .

The author Roz Lee writes of a pain from being belittled and shamed and made to feel that she is going to hell purely for finding sex pleasurable.

The author addresses the older belief that a woman should have sex only to please her husband and get pregnant.

Roz shows that the right person can help heal the damage that other people have inflicted and help view themselves in a more positive light.

The sex is well described and written in a way that even though it is a dom/ sub sexual setting, there is an element of romance and respect.

Jay Harper narrates this story so well! He makes it clear who is talking without overly changing his voice which is a big positive because the story flows so well. He narrates the sexual scenes really well, he has a talent for making them flow with the same skill that he makes during every other part of the book.

I received this audio book as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audio book did not affect my opinion of it.

Seeing Evelyn leave a tent revival meeting, Jimmy Doyle Walker follows her. Jimmy Doyle senses something about her and works to discover if he is right. Once he knows that she is a true submissive, he shows her the rightness of her desires and helps her to learn that her desires are not sinful nor do they make her a bad person.

I loved this story! The letters are perfect--so erotic. The sensuality of Evelyn is on a low burn throughout the book and Jimmy Doyle brings out that side of her so well. He does not stop until he gets what they both want. Jimmy Doyle shows Evelyn there is no right or wrong to sexual desires, only what is right for the person. Bringing out Evelyn's sexuality was beautiful to watch.

I have enjoyed the other books in this series but this was the best book ever!

Suspended Game was a good read by Roz Lee. Jimmy Doyle Walker has spent the last five years proving his innocence in a gambling scene. He is now on the field for the Washington Diplomats. He has to spend the next season demonstrating that he can still contribute to the team. He meets Evelyn Gardner and he risks everything to show her delight. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

I don't usually do historical anything, but hot damn was this good. BDSM romance set in the 1930's. A really good storyline with fan yourself sex scenes. If you enjoy erotica, get this book on your list!

What can I say…? I usually HATE and I mean HATE historicals not because the books aren’t well written or the author is not able to produce great work. It’s because I can’t connect with the time period at all….

Now that my spiel/disclaimer is over I can say that I enjoyed this story very much. I think because it was set in the late 1930’s I was able to connect with the story and it’s characters more.

I love Jimmy and I was a huge cheerleader for him throughout the book, this book took over my life for half a day and putting it down didn’t help at all. Evelyn and Jimmy embark on a love story that will give you everything you are looking in a romance. The BDSM elements are done well and provide a perfect climax (no pun intended… ok maybe a little ) to the plot twist within the book.
