RENO
Jake is nearly seven feet of muscle and terrible jokes. I’ve never slept better than I do beside him.

We share beds. We cuddle. We give the guys at our search-and-rescue outpost plenty to joke about.

We’re also straight. I kissed two guys in college to make sure.

You have to check your hypothesis more than once.

Then we try kissing under the stars. His first attempt barely counts, so I pull him back for another.

Suddenly I want a hell of a lot more than cuddles.

Jake’s taking it all in stride. Of course he is.

Now I can’t stop wanting his hands on me. It’s afterward, when my brain catches up, that everything gets complicated.

He’s my best friend. He’s already had to tell his mom she can’t adopt me.

Jake’s who I’d call if this went to shit.

JAKE
I don’t remember throwing Reno toward the riverbank before the dam broke. He does.

He’s alive, I’m in a cast, and he’s furious that I nearly got myself killed.

Now I need his help taking a shower.

That part has its perks.

He helps me through the nightmares, puts up with my sulking, and somehow makes needing him feel okay.

Momma always said that to be seen is to be loved. Reno’s been proving her right for years.

He keeps kissing me like he’s already decided, then getting lost in his head again.

I can wait.

But I want him to call me his boyfriend as easily as he calls me a dork.

Uncharted is a steamy, standalone M/M romance in the Ridgeline Station series, featuring best friends to lovers, a double awakening, a gentle giant who needs holding too, found family, wilderness danger, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Romeo Alexander writes M/M romance out of Michigan, usually late at night, usually with coffee, always with one dog and two cats who couldn't care less about his deadlines.

He's a gay man writing what he knows: love that's messy before it's easy, men who need to be cracked open a little before they let someone in, and the kind of hurt/comfort that makes you want to reread the same chapter three times.

He believes in happy endings. He also believes they should cost something first.

『•2.5•』

I'm going to go ahead and disagree and say this shouldn't be a standalone. There's SO MANY other characters either involved in the story or talked about to the point where if you removed all of that and only kept the two MCs the story would be significantly shorter, this would be a short novella.

I liked the action towards the end but I was missing more softness to the romantic relationship, Reno was all up in his head when they weren't being physical while Jake was sorta' holding out hope that Reno would feel the same for him.. 🤷‍♀️

Overall this left a lot to be desired and just had too much of the side characters, it wasn't for me and I feel like I should've stopped reading well into the beginning but I have no one to blame but myself.

This is a reluctant 3 star rating. We jumped too far back for this series but since it's marketed as a standalone I guess that makes sense. BUT if I had read this by itself without the 1st 2 books I would have been lost and pissed. I'm sure I will have more to say later but chances are I will immediately forget this series again until KU reminds me when the next book gets released.

A fantastic addition to this series.

An emotional story that is also suspenseful and intense. Both main characters discover that their friendship runs much deeper than they had realized, and they have so much heart that you can't help but wish them the very best.

At the Station there are many things uncharted, it's part of the reason some of the team are there - to be able to study and understand their surroundings more successfully, to enable them to do their search and rescue as well as care of the environment more effectively. But that is not all that is uncharted. In fact since the first book in the series uncharted waters have been tested, something we are gently reminded of.

That brings me to a very important point. This book can be read as a standalone, reading them in order gives you a stronger sense of character and place as well as all the shenanigans but this could also be read alone. One of my favourite things about Romeo Alexander's writing is that he is able to link his stories together, throw in hints about what has happened, what might be to come and create overlap without repetition. For example, this story takes us to the bar brawl you may be familiar with but now we see it from a new perspective, understand the fallout from it differently and that is important. These stories weave together, they invite us into the complicated lives of the men who are at the Station to save and protect and they also invite us into the complicated world of love - familial and other.

Jake and Reno take centre stage in this book, as much as any of Romeo Alexander's characters can do that - the rest of the team love to pop in too and rightly so. But it is the deepening friendship between Jake and Reno which is explored and the way they tentatively find themselves crossing the line from friends to more then from more to lovers and we wonder if they might even make it to boyfriends. In typical Jake fashion very little surprises him, he's happy to go with the flow and he has complete trust in his best friend. Reno lets his brain get ahead of itself but it's good for us as readers to know that he wants to understand his feelings, be sure of himself and be fair, wholeheartedly, to Jake.

The pair put us through one trial after another, keeping us on edge with their growing feelings, developing romance and propensity to get themselves into the worst type of trouble. They also allow us plenty of moments to feel a little gooey over them, to laugh at their antics and to feel completely at home with them. I love all the men (and Cait) at Ridgeline Station, I don't think I could make a choice about a favourite and I absolutely want to keep going back to explore more with them and to find out if Xander can once and for all best the nemesis who has it in for him.

Story lies over story in this series and I am hooked. I hope you will be too. The boys need your support!.

More great times with the guys from Ridgeline Station

One of the several aspects of Michigan author Romeo Alexander writing career, now over a hundred books published, is his keen sense into developing MM characters with whom the reader can identify. The third novel in his Ridgeline Station (Search and Rescue) series (UNCHARTED) he describes as a best friends to lovers, a double awakening, a gentle giant who needs holding too, found family, wilderness danger, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Understanding his readers’ need to inspect (and become involved in) the characters that populate this series he offers a keen synopsis of this third novel: ‘Reno: Jake is nearly seven feet of muscle and terrible jokes. Jake: I don’t remember throwing Reno toward the riverbank before the dam broke. He does. He’s alive, I’m in a cast, and he’s furious that I nearly got myself killed. Now I need his help taking a shower. That part has its perks. He helps me through the nightmares, puts up with my sulking, and somehow makes needing him feel okay. Always refreshing to read, this new series is particularly inviting – a fine invitation to jump on board!

I really enjoyed this book. It is a continuation of the overlapping situations revolving around a group of guys at the Ridgeline Station.
This book focuses on Reno and Jake, two lovable guys who finally realize what everyone else around them suspected - there is more than an amazing friendship between them. They already know so much about one another that adding the romantic element seems natural and right. Where Jake has no issues with their chemistry and giving their cuddles more meaning, Reno takes his time accepting the new level of connection - and sexy times - between them. Honelstly, these two just felt inevitable.
BUT, before they can get to their HEA, they first need to recover from the damage done to their bodies when the dam broke in the previous book and Jake acted on instinct and tried to save Reno. It's during this time that they become even closer, experiment a little, and discover they are both bisexual and very much into one another. Once more, before the acceptance and love can happen, violence and danger strikes again and puts both men's lives in serious peril. Thankfully they are both clever guys and manage to outmanoeuvere the bad guys.
This book is very exciting and intense. I love all the guys at the station and look forward to the next book in the series.
I would absolutely recommend this book. I would suggest you read this series in order so you get a full understanding of the situations and the guys who live at the Ridgeline Station.

"Uncharted" is the third book in the Ridgline Station series, and I recommend reading the books in order, since events from the previous volume affect the next one.
Romeo Alexander’s writing style is wonderful as always, and I was quickly drawn into the story of best friends Jake and Reno. I loved the first books in the series, but I think this is my favorite.
I love the setting of the series; the characters are very likable and tackle the challenges that come with working on a search-and-rescue team with fearless determination. They overcome real challenges that aren’t always without danger.
After what happened recently, Jake and Reno spend a lot of time together, and they enjoy cuddling. They’re best friends, and they’re very aware that the unexpected can happen at any moment in life.
Jake is a wonderful man with a commanding personality and a soft heart. And he’s a great fighter and a gentle giant.
I took Reno into my heart very quickly. He’s emotionally turbulent, and he’s a man who overthinks things—sometimes a little too much. I just wanted to give him a hug and tell him that everything would be okay.
And I found the banter and teasing between the two of them very entertaining.
I also loved how their dynamic changed. The story is entertaining, has great characters, plenty of emotion, and lots of action, culminating in a hard-fought and well-deserved happy ending. A very good “best friend to lover” story. I highly recommend the entire series!

Friends to lovers, with a double bi-awakening and a hard-won HEA

OMFG, what did you do to me, Romeo? After what Jake and Reno went through in the previous book, I really didn't expect what happened here.
You really need to read this series in order because there's no break in the timeline, each book slightly overlapping, and incidents from one book bleeding into the next. It's also insanely good, with wonderful characters and a wild backdrop that causes our intrepid search and rescue heroes real cause for concern.
I'm not going to spoil anything but Jake and Reno are recovering from what happened to them previously, allowing them to spend more time together. Being in such close proximity and acutely aware that life can throw a mean curveball at any given moment, they both opened their eyes to see that perhaps what they'd been searching for all along was each other.
Reno was a sweetheart, more messy inside than I realised. He got in his head a lot and I wanted to give him a big hug each time.
Jake, though? He was just the most wonderful man who was also a revelation, larger than life, a real gentle giant who fought hard for his man and for both their lives. He has shot to almost the top of my list of favourite Romeo characters, running a very close second to the man who has held my heart from first meeting him in If This Gets Out… (Cresson Point) thirty-three books ago.

Reno and Jake . . .

Reno and Jake have decided to check out what everyone else at the Ridgeline Rescue Station has already suspected. Even the two of them sort of suspect it may be true that they are feeling more than just their solid friendship. Jake is already comfortable with whatever the verdict turns out to be. But Reno is not sure about taking things further. He had experimented in college to make the determination early-on. He even changed locations, like kissing under the stars (romantic, right?). But it wasn't convincing him that it was the life for him. In the meantime, Jake is staying calm about the entire situation, willing to wait for Reno to figure it out. They are best friends, and Reno doesn't want to mess that up. And while this decision is of course high priority, the dam breaking and the rescue and injuries had turned their attention to healing and how close they came to losing their lives. Are they ready to make that decision yet? (Either way, you will love their story!)

I have had the look to have read other books by Romeo Alexander. I love the style of stories they build. This story was no different. Reno & Jake's story was no different. Romeo just has a gift to draw you into their story from the start. The things these two go through in the wild were so scary and written really well to where you thought it was really happening. Jake tries to get Reno to safety before it's too late before the damn gives. My heart was beating so hard in my chest, let me tell you. When an author gets me so into the story I fell, I'm there; that is a great writer. After almost losing his own life, Jake ends up with a cast; to me, that's a win when what could have happened. The building and growth these two go through are amazing. I want more from Ridgeline Station.

This is the third book in the Ridgeline Station series. While it can be enjoyed as a standalone read, I would recommend reading the series in order. This is the story of Jake and Reno. These two are coworkers, good friends and cuddle buddies at the Ridgeline Rescue Station. Everyone already thinks that they are a romantic couple but them. Slowly the idea that their friendship is more than that starts to seep into them. After their almost near death experience when the dam broke, they are healing together. Jake seems to have no problem adapting to their new situation. Reno on the other hand, is having a harder time getting his head in line with his heart. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. I already thought of them as a couple so it was easy to see their relationship grow farther. Having such a great friendship as the base of all the changes, made it easier for both of them to support each other through the changes. I really enjoyed this book.

I've loved Jake since we met him in the first book and I've been waiting for him and Reno to get their turn. Their friendship is top tier and there really wasn't anything subtle about the subtext there. Still, watching them actually figure it out was perfect.

I loved that underneath all the banter and teasing, there's a genuine love between them that existed before their relationship shifted. They are twin flames or something equally romantic that makes my black heart uncomfortable. They truly know each other inside and out, and it is clear they would die for each other. They certainly keep trying. Idiots. But the way Reno takes care of Jake after his injury highlights how solid and deep their relationship is before it turned into more.

Could I have done without Romeo putting them through quite so much to get their HEA? Absolutely. But then it wouldn't be a Romeo Alexander book. Jake and Reno deserved their HEA, they fought hard for it, and I loved finally getting to see them find it.

🔥🔥🔥

This is Book 3 in the Ridgeline Station series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Jake and Reno are best friends who have always been attached at the hip. Their friendship is easy, comfortable, and full of jokes, but things start to shift after one hell of a kiss.

Having read Books 1 and 2, I already loved their dynamic together as well as their characters individually. This one didn’t stand out quite as much as the previous books for me but their banter and chemistry more than made up for it.

The story is fast-paced without feeling rushed, and the spice is decent.

This is my favourite in the series so far.

Jake and Reno have been simmering in the background throughout, and seeing their story evolve in this tale makes Uncharted my favourite in the series so far.

The evolution of their relationship, the deep trust amidst the layers of new emotions, doubt and the delicious hurt/comfort care giving is gripping.

Jake's vulnerabilities, his trauma and the way he lets Reno in to soothe him, save him is beautiful.

The timelines of this series, the way Romeo weaves all the layers from previous (and future?) stories is masterful, and I am deeply invested in this team, their love and their future.

hate boner, BDE, peach cobbler bribe, pegging, desperate measures, circle of life, spitters are quitters, Banana Trick, PITA, shattered cast, special fun juice, hospital cuddles

This is a great book, especially towards the ending. It's where the pace is the quickest. I enjoyed Reno's and Jake's mostly cute story. Reno has a lot of angst over his sudden attraction to his longtime best friend, Jake. That attraction doesn't seem to bother Jake at all. He's such a goofy, gentle giant. His family is just as loud and chaotic as he is. Ya gotta love 'em all. I sure did. There's some violence that's integral to the story; it isn't gratuitous (I think). All-in-all, this is a great addition to the 'Ridgeline Station' series. Recommended!

Reno and Jake have been best friends since the day they met. After years of working together and being friends, they finally discover what all the other idiots at Ridgeline Station have known all along!
It was so much fun revisiting Ridgeline Station and catching up with all the other idiots we’ve come to know and love. I absolutely love this series and can’t wait for the next book!
Although these books can be read as standalones, I highly recommend reading them in order. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on all the fun, friendships, and craziness along the way!

Another excellent addition to this enjoyable series. There is some overlap with the other books, which is very well thought out. Reno and Jake are best friends and colleagues at Ridgeline Station. They are practically joined at the hip but feel no physical attraction to each other - until they start thinking. Both spent quite a lot of time recovering from bad wounds in hospital, after two action packed and dangerous events. I liked their fumbling and confusion which didn't spoil the strong feelings they already shared before becoming romantically involved.

Too much overlap!

I was practically jumping out of my seat with excitement to read Jake and Reno’s story! However, I almost DNF’d this book after the first third. Why so much overlap? Reading the same scenes from previous books through different characters’ perspectives did nothing for me. It got so boring!

Once we finally caught up and the timeline moved forward, though, the book got immensely better! I loved Jake’s openness and willingness to give Reno space to sort through his thoughts. Reno’s talk with Xander was hilariously uncomfortable in the best way! The spice was mild, but the action scenes toward the end were great!

Zero chemistry, sloppy writing. The leads didn’t really have any chemistry and this ended up being a DNF for me, which is an automatic 2 star.

I basically forgot that I was reading this halfway through when I paused to do something else for the rest of the day not a good start. I felt like all delicious tension that you would expect from this type of book was missing.

Everything happens rather quickly in the first sort of third of the book and then it just kind of me entered for a bit.

Overall, I really really wanted to like this, but it just didn’t feel like it had its heart in it and was very painted by numbers.

The main characters were sweet. Their co-workers and friends are good ones and had their back. I like how the MCs talked through their issues and had patience with each other as they got the courage to talk to each other about each issue. I like love relationship that is respectful and healthy. But something feels a bit off about this story. But, maybe it's because I'm wanting to read something lighter in action and peril after reading some heavy stories.

These two - Reno and Jake - are really good friends. They are already close and comfortable with one another. They already share an emotional intimacy that made their transition from just friends, not seamless, but it certainly made sense. Their bodies, their emotions, got there before Jake gets out of his head. But what was good was that the overthinking did not get in the way of them finding their way from solid friendship to more.

I was already all about Reno and Jake, so this book was super special for me. These two did so much more than physically heal together. They found new deeper feelings for one another. It was interesting to see how they each handled it a bit differently. Jake was comfortable with their new intimacy, but Reno needed to sort himself out a bit first. Personally, I am loving this is a series as all the characters continue and grow as each of these new romances surfaces.

Delightful! Reno and Jake are straight best friends who like to cuddle and snuggle. They are a good fit in their search and rescue profession. Reno, is more partial to exploring and Jake goes with the flow. Their circumstances change, and their roles change and open doors with the permission to step through. They get a little closer, as their dynamic changes and they adjust their perspectives. Fun story, Romeo makes the best characters. Nicely done.

Jake and Reno's story was a book worth waiting for. To see both men come to terms with the change in dynamics for their relationship was truly a delight. Best friends, both straight - sharing so many firsts together. Always having a comfort level and ease into love at the outpost.

I absolutely am loving this series. The way Romeo set these characters up in the other books was so good. To see them realize their feelings for each other to the point of risking themselves for the other was so sweet. I think we would all love to have someone like that in our lives. Can't wait to read the other couples.

I really wanted to like this book, the blurb for it seemed to be a great storyline but multiple chapters in I was so lost. Everything seems to go off on tangents. There are clearly characters with histories I’m missing, but this isn’t part of a series? Or is it a spin off of a series, if it is it’s not mentioned. The way it’s written it shouldn’t be a stand alone.
