The Children of the Gods #3

Dark Stranger Immortal

Rate this book

When Kian confesses his true nature, Syssi is not as much shocked by the revelation as she is wounded by what she perceives as his callous plans for her. If she doesn't turn, he'd be forced to erase her memories and let her go. His family's safety demands secrecy - no one in the mortal world is allowed to know that immortals exist. Resigned to the cruel reality, Syssi is determined to enjoy what little time she has with Kian, one day at a time...

Kian and Syssi's story culminates in Dark Stranger Immortal, and the characters embark on a new adventure in book 4: Dark Enemy Taken.

This is a new and re-edited version.

Definitely worth

This is definitely worth the read, it’s full of a constant array of things happening and going wrong. Love coming true and friendships being forged. When this book ended they were headed off on a rescue mission. I’m headed off to the next book. Loving this series.

I was loving this series, but the brief notion of homophobia I read in the first book, rears its ugly head full throttle in this one, complete with the use of the word "faggot," accusations of a FUCKING TAILOR acting inappropriately by touching someone he's tailoring, and getting his hand broken. And this is from a character about to get a redemption arc. YEAH F NO.

Well, this was definitely no more than 3 stars. It was going to be 2 stars until the last 50 pages.

I've never read a fantasy romance until this series and tbh, I only chose this series because it was free on kindle unlimited. 😄
Book 1 was my favorite, this one was my second favorite. I was expecting more smut, there was only two sex scenes in this book. (Little sad about that) I had a lot of issues with the communication in the other books but those issues were resolved in this book. If you don't like insta-love or aggressive alpha maleness, I would stay away from this series.

Another issue I had was with the dialogue. It's really cheesy and I often found myself laughing because I just couldn't picture people actually saying that stuff out loud. The main character Kain talked to Syssi like a child and it made me uncomfortable.

The last issue I had was that Syssi was supposed to have psychic powers but we only saw them once in the first book and never again. They always talked about how she had powers and she was always complaining about how she hated being able to see the future and blah, blah, blah... BUT WE HARDLY SAW YOUR POWERS!! (maybe they went away 🤔)

Engrossing. Enveloping. Enticing. Exciting. This is the world of the Children of the Gods by I.T. Lucas. In this third installment, the lives of Syssi and Michael, the mortals with the potential immortal gene, are put on the line. If they are not immortal, both may face irreversible brain damage and still have to leave their mortal lives behind because they have been allowed into the inner sanctum of the immortals. Syssi feels betrayed by this scenario and her lover and the immortal's regent, Kian, is not helpful because he wants her to have the freedom to make her own choices. This is very contrary to his alpha nature. However, circumstances on the horizon will take away everyone's choice.

This third book did not disappoint as the love story for Syssi and Kian reaches a pinnacle and one for Amanda, Kian's sister, launches. This book ends on a closed story arc, but to find out the conclusion of the battle between the immortal clans, I think I will have to pick up the Dark Enemy trilogy next. Personally, I can't wait. These books were that good. The entire trilogy is currently available and is a Kindle Unlimited offering.

Cliffhanger!!!

The story ended very well for these two but I was left with such a huge cliffhanger! What is going to happen to Amanda? Well they get her back? Can Dalhu really change sides?! Guess I’ll have to read the next one to find out!!

Happy reading!! 🖤🖤

I’ll be honest. How I got to the third book I don’t know because looking back this series was actually terrible. Laughing to myself just thinking of how ridiculous it was. SOME parts were good but overall the two main lovers whose names I already forgot were so stupid. Like... every little thing was a problem- annoyingly so. And they fell in love after like 3 days. Pathetic. ALSO: the main “problem” and explanation of the background was repeated in long paragraphs like 8-10 times. I’m not kidding. I had to skim over it. Terrible.

Update: I looked at the description and the main characters were Kian and Syssi (don’t ask me how to pronounce that or what the hell kind of a name that is). ANYWAY- idiots. Both of them! Waaahaaay too emotional for just having met each other I mean I get it they are “fated” but damn it’s like one little argument and Syssi goes running for the hills throwing a raging pity party AGAIN.

I honestly got a bit bored in this book right from the beginning. I really didn't like that no matter how badly Kian treated her, she always fell back in his arms without fail. She was like a yo-yo and it annoyed me. For a supposedly smart woman she was acting very stupid, and not in a naive way. And Kian as the head of the family should know about these 'true mates' and how it manifests, because his mother would surely have known and passed it along?

Thank the gods I’m done with this thing.
And speaking of the gods, I have to say this before I go. There was this tidbit that the clan’s smart and wise “judge” threw in as trivia about “amen” deriving from the Egyptian god Amun-Ra, and every time you say amen you in fact pledge allegiance to Him. It bothered me on several levels. Setting aside the fact that it’s total bull crap (factcheck.com has an article about this) it annoys me when they try to intimidate people with pseudo-facts like that. I just read a post on Twitter that Hello really means Hell-o and when you say that you inadvertently hail Satan or something. But it’s language! We use sounds to convey intentions and meaning to others. Whoever says hello, they just want to greet you. The one that says Amen expresses their hope and appreciation for a Truth - as the Hebrews did back in the day, as it really originated in their word for “verity”. I probably reacted a bit too strongly to this but really. You know someone will take it as truth as they “read it in a book”. I don’t see why you need to include a stupid conspiracy loonacy like that in an otherwise quite harmless book like this, especially as it had nothing to do with the plot whatsoever.

It was OK - but the author put in too much of his/her personal/political opinions, it threw me out of the story, more with each book. I read through to the 3rd installment/book. I feel like this series is more of a television shows with multiple episodes (each one ending without a resolution so that you have to go on to the next) rather than complete stories in each book that build a larger world within the series. Personally, I don't like episodic/cliff-hanger books so I stopped at the 3rd book.

Another hit in this amazing series. I have not been able to put this series down at all. I just finished buying the entire series because it is so good i will finish them all fast. They are so good, so this is the third book and is better then the second. this is one of the only series I have read that each book gets better. make sure you read book one and two prior to this book, and be prepared to get book four!! I am loving this series. it is " gods" but reminds me more of vampires really, so if you like vampire books you will love this series, but has many twists and turns in it. Very good, romance, action, and good vs evil.

Now we're talking!

I had a problem with the pace of the previous books but things are picking up now.

Background characters are coming to the forefront so we know some of them might star in their own book. I especially like Dalhu, the enemy. Throughout the last book, I kept thinking he's smart and has sent redeeming qualities such as making sure his sex partners were safe. Plus, he's sexy as heck.

I'm looking forward to the next book.

The books in the series only get better. I am glad this book included more of the main character's families. Even though this book was still centered on the two main characters, it gave you a little more of the other characters. I will be reading book 4.

I can't recommend this series enough

You won't regret reading this series. The story continues to follow Kian, Amanda, Syssi and the rest of the clan as they continue to try and stay protected from a rival clan and find a way to increase their clan.

In book one Syssi is pulled into Kian's world of immortals, in book two the relationship between them blossoms, and in book three it reaches its climax.
Kian is torn between wanting Syssi for himself and doing the right thing. Even though it kills him, he tells her that she is not bound to him and if she becomes immortal she'll be free to choose any one of the clan's males. Syssi interprets this to mean that Kian doesn't care for her. From there the book picks up speed with one calamity after the other until the explosive end. This trilogy was a page turner from start to finish, and I loved every minute of immersing myself in the fascinating world of immortals. I couldn't part with the characters I grew to love in the first trilogy and had to keep reading about them in book four which begins a new love story.

At the end of Dark Stranger Revealed, Kian tells Syssi everything, including the fact that he will be forced to erase her memories and send her away if she doesn't turn immortal. The way he explains it devastates Syssi and she is convinced that Kian doesn't love her. Amanda senses Syssi's heartbreak and confronts her brother, forcing him to admit that he loves Syssi, then promises to help him win Syssi back.
Syssi accepts that their situation is hopeless and decides to enjoy the time she has with the man she loves instead of crying over what he can't have.
Meanwhile, Dalhu obsesses over Amanda's picture, and even though he knows she belongs to the enemy clan, he fantasizes of having her for himself.

I loved Kian and Syssi's hot, whirlwind romance, and I hope Amanda's is next. I can't wait to find out who she'll end up with. (I'm team Dalhu...

2 Stars - It was ok
Audiobook

Seriously, why am I continuing with this series? I like the story idea, but the authors execution of the story seriously lacks!

The story is kinda boring. We get stuck in the minds of the various POV's as they drudge on and on over something.... I don't know what because I zone out during those parts. The background story with the evil Doomers could be really good, except the author doesn't do much with that storyline. She uses it as an excuse to get couples together. It's too heavy on the romance side. That could be ok but the main H & h spend the majority of the time pushing and pulling at the relationship. Boring! Also, what is with the author and slut shaming?

Again... why am I reading this??

Clearly right wing politics and a homophobe

After getting to the third book, the authors blasé use of the word "faggot" bothered me quite a bit. It was wholeheartedly used in a derogatory manner by the "villain" who was then "redeemed"...but I presume in the next book. Just....really off-putting and the politics-heavy innuendo and story line about how the US isn't taking military seriously and focusing elsewhere - ON THE ENVIRONMENT AS A LIBERAL HOAX -was when I stopped reading. Just no. No no no.

Another 5 stars!

As Kian and Syssi's love grows, a dangerous situation arises. Syssi's life is in danger and a female immortal is kidnapped by a Doomer...In the eyes of most, it's a fate worse than death. An unlikely ally is brought into the fold. Two new immortals arise... Who are they and what will this mean for Kian's clan? You're in for another adventure! It's a must-read series!

Good book

Good continuation of the next book. But they seem to be getting shorter with each installment. But it is good to see the transition of the characters.

I've put all three of these books together not only because they are a trilogy, but because the first two end on cliffhangers that bleed over, sometimes word for word, into the next. So, hey, three for one, yay!
Imagine being the son of a Goddess, being 2000 years old, running a massive conglomerate nearly on your own and having to spend every night with a different women, wiping her memory of you so you are truly alone except for your family. Oh, and you have fangs that exude venom and are the origin of the legends of vampires, although you don't take blood. Your venom merely causes some of the greatest orgasms your partners have ever had. All you want is your truemate, but you no longer believe in that myth.
Now imagine you are a graduate student who has precognitive abilities who is working with a fun and flirty female professor researching paranormal abilities. You have no idea that she has an ulterior motive, she is looking for Dormants, descendants of the Gods, many many generations removed. Your only romantic and sexual experience is one obnoxious, bordering on a verbally abusive male.
These three books are their stories – Kian (the son of the Goddess) and Syssie(the ordinary grad student with precog). They are pushed together when Amanda's lab (the Professor) is destroyed by Doomers – our villains du jour.
The sexual tension and relationship confusion are both drawn tight as we see the expectations of a modern woman versus that of man who has lived 2000 years and doesn't quite get the concepts of sexual liberation, delegation and democracy.
There is a lot of humor and a lot of action scenes plus tension from the attraction that quickly turns to true love.
Secondary character, from Amanda to Dahlu who should be the main villain but is not what we expect, are exceptionally well drawn. One moment you thing Amanda is a shallow woman moving fro man to man, then you realize she has no choice and is seeking a 'cure' to all that. Dahlu appears to be a whack job of a religious he-man-woman-hater, then you find, like a lot of Scientologist, he has discovered the internet.
All three books have a continuous plot and are addicting. I would finish one and immediately need the next like a fix!
This Trilogy is Book Nerd Approved
4 out of 5 stars – losing one star because, for a 2000 year old man from Eastern Europe, Kian has an amazing grasp on the English language including American idioms and slang. And well, CCTV/Face Recognition programs would eventually catch the century old people, particularly if a business competitor got a bee in their bonnet to bring them down.

This was overall an enjoyable paranormal romance book with a decent relationship arc as well as an overarching story arc that will continue on in more books.
This book concluded the Syssi/Kian relationship in a satisfying way. This third installment of that arc seemed better paced than the first two, but there were still some issues- some of the plot points were resolved almost too quickly and neatly- the transition into immortals from Dormants went really fast and I would have liked more from that plot point.
My biggest issue was probably the lack of seeing Syssi use her powers throughout this three-book arc that is focused on her. Her premonitions played a part in the first book, both through her dreams of Kian before meeting him and her feelings of unease about specific things about to happen. But I wish I could have seen her powers growing and contributing more to the overall plot. For how important her status as a precognitive was, it seemed like that ability wasn't utilized in the story much at all. (Michael- the fellow Dormant who also has low-level mind powers- also didn't get to show off his at all- which was disappointing as well)
Meanwhile- there's a lot of time spent throughout the story explaining the immortals' history and then everyone they explain it to is basically "oh. OK. No big deal. Let's move on now."- I would have liked more varied responses, maybe more disbelief on some of their parts or at least some soul-searching as to how to make sense of it all.
I liked this book enough to continue the series but I am unlikely to go back and reread it again.

WARNING: THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE STORY!!!!

Each character story is supposedly a trilogy of 3 books (totaling almost 1000 pages😳) but it’s really just 1 continuous story throughout the ENTIRE 85+ BOOK SERIES- IT NEVER CONCLUDES!!!
THERE IS NEVER A HFN/ HEA EVER!!!!!!

By 80% into this 3rd book, we have firmly moved onto the next couple. They are embroiled in a perilous situation and a rescue attempt is being planned by this book conclusion….. only to leave you hanging so you jump into the next book.

These books are way toooooo long and you will find yourself skimming over half of it and not miss a thing. It is so freaking drawn out and uninteresting with history/ backstory plus constant repetitive inner dialogue where NOTHING happens, there’s zero point to 85% of the books.

Honestly, I might read more **IF IT WAS CONDENSED** Each 3 book grouping could have EASILY fit in ONE 350 page book while the story keeps moving along. Instead, after 1000 pages we’ve only covered a week or 2 of time with very little happening.

This entire series is written from multiple peoples POV, NOT JUST THE MAIN CHARACTERS!! Even when some stranger is about to die, they get their own POV chapter which ends with ☠️. Unlike most romances, it is an interesting way to write and makes you more invested in ALL THE CHARACTERS not just MC’s. Not to mention too many character POV’s that you’ll start to lose track of who is who. Unfortunately we get so little of the main couple, it’s hard to care about them or their boring relationship. We pretty much see them have 🥱boring *1🌶️* sex 🥱😴and then they are *in love*.
