What’s to Love: Based on the award-winning animated series, The Amazing World of Gumball features a wacky cast of characters and a ton of heart, so we were delighted to bring Gumball Watterson and the town of Elmore to comics for the first time. What It Is: Gumball Watterson thinks he’s the coolest kid in school, his little sister Anais begs to differ, and Darwin just wants to stay out of trouble! Anything can happen in the crazy town of Elmore, and Gumball is the master of causing all sorts of trouble with his crazy schemes. Collects issues #1-4, including the Free Comic Book Day story.
omg the art style is so cute and funny, it has the same vibe as the cartoon but it's so cool seeing it drawn and the format of the 'episodes' is obviously very different but it works really well here :D
This comic was funny and gave me a few honest laughs The artstyle is unique and phenomenal and definitely capture the essence of the show it was based off of.
Will review each story seperately, but overall this is better than Vol. 2. Mostly thanks to "The Blackout" and Mr. Dad's cooking incident (so hilarious!).
"Cool" **** In the first story, Gumball and Darwin decide they need to be cool. And to be cool, they want to drive. Mr. Dad straps on some training wheels, gives them helmets and sends them on their way. Their mom has different ideas about this, and the boys must seek other ways to be cool.
Their mom's face when they drive by and the result is hilarious.
"Karate" *** Mom signs Gumbo and Darwin up for karate, with unexpected results.
Ok. It's just utterly forgettable between the driving episode and a later story.
"Tag: The Betrayal" **** Gumball decides a game of tag is the perfect way to settle a dispute. Little does he realize how seriously the town takes tag.
I don't think I'll ever look at a game of tag in the same way. Kudos to the writers & illustrators for taking a normal topic and making it epic.
"The Black Out" ***** (I'd give this more if I could.) Not feeling appreciated, Rocky, the school's bus driver/cafeteria cook/janitor decides to convince the school staff to swap roles for a day. It's an unforgettable day, but the inedible school lunch will have drastic repercussions. Why? Well, when Gumbo and Darwin come home starving, Mr. Dad breaks the rules and decides to make a little snack. Snack time results in a major blackout and riots. Thankfully, Rocky, realizes his true calling in time to save the day before it's over.
Oh my goodness. The scene where Mr. Dad makes a snack was unforgettable comedic genius. I laughed so hard I cried. I had to re-read this story just to get a second dose of that scene. (And subsequently I pretty much forgot all about every other story because they pale in comparison.) IF YOU DON'T READ ANY OTHER STORY IN HERE, READ THIS ONE. So funny.
"The Pants" ** Gumball tries to give Darwin pants, but they don't work. So Gumball tries other ways to make Darwin feel like everyone else.
Disturbing (though thankfully Gumball is a cat/rabbit/thing so it isn't horrible).
"The Amazing Journal Comic of Darwin" *** Darwin has to keep a journal for a week as a school assignment.
Moments of great humor, like Darwin bemoaning his lack of fingers, eating fish sticks, declaring Mr. Dad his role model, and swim lessons.
I can’t tell you how much I love the cartoon on Cartoon Network. Now The Amazing World of Gumball is in comic form. The comic brings the same irreverence, idiocy and poorly thought out decisions to the printed page.
This volume covers the first 4 comics in the series. It includes all the alternate covers for each comic as well. It has 6 stories, 4 longer stories and 2 shorter stories.
The 6 stories are: Cool, Karate, Tag: The Betrayal & The Black Out as the long stories with The Pants and The Amazing Journal Comic of Darwin as the two shorter stories.
Cool follows Gumball as he tries to out do Tobias who makes everybody think he is driving a car. Gumball decides he must learn how to drive too and promises Darwin that he can ride Shotgun if he helps him.
In Karate, Gumball and Darwin are playing a fighting video game and decide to try out their Karate skills outside. Their mom comes home and finds them not getting into trouble so decides to reward them with something they want to do. They both agree on wanting to learn Karate.
In Tag: The Betrayal, Gumball is in an argument with Jamie. Gumball pulls out all the heavy hitters in the argument to win, including the dreaded IT in a game of Tag. Unfortunately Gumball has tapped into the dark secret of Elmore and has opened a can of Tag worms that he will regret opening.
The Black Out follows Rocky who feels disrespected as the schools cafeteria lunch server, janitor and school bus driver. He demands to switch jobs with the other staff in the school so they can see how it is to be him. Things don’t go as he hoped as he finds out just how critical and important he is at his roles.
Sadly, the comic does have DRM, so I have to subtract a point for that.
Honestly I really liked this comic and if your a fan of the show or it’s Meta style humor you’ll love this comic too! Plus it’s a treat to see character that are typically in the show done in cgi or edited in with photoshop being hand drawn and 2D rendered for this comic! The plot is as follows, Tobias drives a car at twelve and so “logically” gumball decides he wants to drive too and typical amazing world of gumball antics pursue. The humor in this was pretty good especially with how Gumball played off characters like Darwin and Anise. Also some of the art had a lot of funny visual gags too with outfits, and facial features.
The Amazing World Of Gumball has been my favorite cartoon show not to long ago. The comic version reflects the similar theme Ben Bocquelet brought along to Cartoon Network.
My five star rating proves that I love how Nicole Watterson brought along her motherly strength when it comes to disciplining her boys. Another part is that Richard always becoming faithful and brainless (makes me laugh even more)!
If anyone loves comics, Cartoon Network, and TAWOG, I shall recommend it😁
This mixed-animation cartoon has become easily one of my all-time favorites over the years, endearing and nostalgic and hilarious, a hybrid of slice-of-life and wild suburban adventure that matches up well with other Cartoon Network programming. The comic does a faithful job with both the artwork and storytelling, even if it loses a little something in the translation, because it's just hard to translate such a kinetic thing onto the page. But Frank Gibson comes close.
I love comics and the gumball series on Hulu . I gave this 4 stars because I enjoy this series and that it was really funny and I love this book! my favorite chapter was chapter 4 because it was funny that Mr. Dad as gumball calls him disobeys ms. Mom as gumball calls her . Then everyone was deathly hungry and the power went out and the t-rex was really hangry then the lunch man saves the day and feed everyone. I love this book so much!
Great book loved every second of reading never wanted to stop I wish there was a 100 star review would have given it that
Would recommend this book too anyone who likes gumball the only thing I would change is the art I like the shoes stuff better overall very very very veryyyyy good book
I loved this comic. It was everything I love about the show and more. Gumball and Darwin never fail to make me laugh, this was no exception. Some nice lighthearted reading for fun!
The stories in there were so hilarious! My favorite parts were when Richard tried to cook dinner for the kids and he caused a blackout in the town and Richard put on training wheels on the car so Darwin and Gumball could learn how to drive. The Mom’s reaction = priceless!!
My son enjoys the series so I figured I'd get the book to assist him with being excited about reading. He's flying through this book. I'm sure we'll be reading the remaining in the sequence.
So I like the book but the chapters aren't particularly my favorite. I like that there's chapters but I don't like that they all kinda start a new story. I'd like it if the chapters kinda were like, from the same story. Overall it's a good book though.
I liked this book a lot!😀It has good humor and adventure! It's based off a TV -Y 7 television show.A blue cat and an orange fish! 😉😉😉😉Very appropriate for children too! This book left my child in a really good mood!
Unsurprised someone actually made a Comic about The Amazing World of Gumball. Oh and also this so the First time I've Read a Comic Book Online! Also the First time I've Read a Book Online Without it being Homework!
Childish antics, but in this case, the comic and its characters make fun of themselves and their world while providing entertainment by showing their daily life and zany personalities.
