I accidentally walked into the wrong on-call room.

And found the head surgeon coming out of the shower.

I was twenty hours into my shift when the charge nurse told me to go and rest in Room 3B.

But I was so tired that I accidentally walked into 3A and didn’t even realize it.

I went straight to the bed, got under the covers, and immediately passed out from exhaustion.

Thirty minutes later, I felt someone gently pressing against my shoulder and woke up still half asleep.

I opened my eyes to see Dr. Wilder shirtless with a towel around his waist.

I threw the covers off and jumped out of bed, too embarrassed to explain why I was sleeping in his room.

I tried to rush past him, but the clip on my scrubs caught part of his towel and took it with me.

Now I’m definitely getting fired.

Then I heard his voice come from behind me,

“Do you mind giving that back?”

I need everyone to gather round because this book opened with a woman being so spectacularly exhausted she accidentally walked into the wrong room, climbed into the wrong bed, fell asleep, woke up to a shirtless surgeon, and then accidentally stole his towel.

Not his heart.

Not his attention.

His actual towel.

And if that doesn't set the tone for the chaos ahead, I don't know what does.

Disobeying is the literary equivalent of watching someone trip down one step and somehow end up engaged by the end of the week.

The heroine is running on approximately three brain cells and half a cup of coffee when she's told to get some rest. Unfortunately, fate apparently looked at this poor woman and said, "You know what would be funny?" before shoving her directly into Dr Wilder's room.

Bestie.

When she woke up and realised where she was, I physically felt her soul leave her body.

Then came the towel incident.

THE TOWEL INCIDENT.

I was already laughing, but when her scrubs got tangled and took the man's towel hostage, I became completely useless. Throw the whole dignity out. We don't need it anymore. It's gone. It's somewhere in the hospital lost property box.

Dr Wilder is exactly the kind of romance hero designed to cause problems for readers. Calm. Competent. Gorgeous. A surgeon. Walking around making rational decisions while everyone else's common sense files for annual leave. Every scene with him had me sitting there like a nosy neighbour peeking through the curtains.

"Ooooh, something's about to happen."

And usually it did.

The chemistry between these two was ridiculously addictive. Not dramatic-world-ending chemistry. Worse.

The kind that sneaks up on you.

The lingering looks.

The awkward encounters.

The moments where they're trying to act professional while the entire plot is standing behind them holding a giant sign that says JUST KISS ALREADY.

I absolutely flew through this. It's quick, fun, flirty and completely committed to the madness of its premise. There isn't a single moment where the story stops and questions whether any of this is sensible.

Because sensible left the building with the towel.

What I loved most was how easy it was to get swept up in everything. The characters were charming, the tension kept building, and every chapter felt like another opportunity for these two to make their lives significantly more complicated.

Which they generously provided.

Honestly, this entire book feels like it was written by a sleep-deprived romance gremlin who saw a hospital door labelled "Do Not Enter" and sprinted through it at full speed.

By the end, I wasn't hoping for sensible choices. I wasn't hoping for professionalism. I wasn't even hoping for a normal conversation.

I was sitting in the corner of the hospital car park eating imaginary popcorn while the feral gremlin living in my brain screamed, "YES. MAKE MORE QUESTIONABLE DECISIONS. THIS IS HOW ROMANCE IS DONE."

Five stars for the towel.

It worked harder than half the cast.

Great story

Loved it. Sweet, engaging and a great message. Thank you, SS, for doing a story about an older woman-younger man. I am incredibly tired of the typical dude being way older: 15, 20, 25 yrs!...I mean, Give it a rest already.
It was well written and thought out. The characters were definitely likeable and you cheered them on. Whilst the villain were the under-handed and you wanted to aee them taken down. Even Dean's father who hust thought he could live a second life by manipulating his son into doing it for him.

I was super happy with the ending, although I wouldve liked to see Dean's POV in the epilogue...what happened with his father after the blowout in the 3rd act....beyond that, SS always delivers.

I just love this author the romance the yearning the spice isnt overly done id say a 2 for level but this is an emotional journey starting with our fmc that is the best surgeon and very respected who went threw a divorce and finds herself where the mmc comes in lets just say he may be younger (30 to her 40) but age is just a number he comes in and woos her and never leaves even though she's scared and worried to be in due to his playboy ways. Her ex husband kent was such trash and glad he got what he deserved i will deffinatly be reading more of her books

Such a RomCom!

I'm a sucker for RomComs in movies, books and even AI dramas. I laugh so much at Dean's antics and the circumstances before they started the "tutoring to do casual hook ups". This one made me giddy, smike and laugh at the same time. Again, the classic standing up against narcissistic ex-husband and the karma of this person being caught defrauding the system and loosing face in the end. Such an icing on the cake. Such a wonderful ending of learning to let go and live life....embracing the love of your life. Good work Stacy!

DNF poss Spoilers

.. at page 44 when you have the MMC sleeping with other women not the FMC and claiming he is changing his ways is just disgusting. Please write something worth reading. So sad and pathetic.

Disobeying

Love this series. The characters have depth, you can see them developing with each turn of the page.
Dr Vance is wonderful Dean Wilder is wild until he meets Eleanor. And the rest shall we say is history.
I didn't see the ending coming. But it was spectacular!

Finding truth

I loved this. I am not sure how i can express it but I appreciated the “ younger man” angle. Age just shouldn’t matter so much when true peace is involved. Just a beautiful, peaceful ending after the turmoil of parental and career expectations.

Excellent read

This was really well developed, the feelings felt honest, the spice threaded with emotion. Characters were realistic and relatable. This was the second in series and I'm happy to have read both.

I didn't like the FMC being ten years older than the MMC. I also hated his father's treatment of him. I liked the HEA.
