The world's worst nanny for Scotland's cutest kid, crushing on his ultra-grumpy dad? Disaster with a capital D.Lily Campbell is the worst. Ask the summer camp that sacked her because of the marshmallow incident. Ask the neighbour's daughter who still has nightmares from three hours of babysitting. And you should definitely ask the man she dumped the night before their destination wedding in a Scottish castle.
The. Absolute. Worst.
So imagine Lily's face when a seven-year-old boy finds her in his dad's shed in the Highlands and decides to adopt the Canadian runaway bride on the spot.
It's nothing compared to her face when his single dad turns out to be the hottest grump she's ever laid eyes on.
Cailean Kincaid needs a nanny for his son Alfie to get through a career-saving contracting job. Lily doesn't do kids (for their own good), but she's hiding from the wedding fallout, desperate to start over.
Three months of being an unqualified emergency-nanny in Thistle Glen until autumn ends? There's only so much damage even someone like Lily can do in that time.
Too bad she doesn't count the damage to her own heart. Because falling for a moody Scottish single dad who's eleven years older and hell-bent on never loving again – that just may be Lily's worst move ever.
------ Too Scot to Handle is a cosy & spicy single dad x nanny romcom with a dual first person POV that's set in the Scottish Highlands. It's the second book in the Thistle Glen series and can be read as a standalone.
For fans of high-heat single dad x nanny romances, runaway brides who can't resist a Scottish grump, forced proximity in a cosy cottage, and blue-collar heroes who fall hard and for good.
Too Scot to Handle also has cute cats, a quirky community, a treehouse, a pub, and a guaranteed HEA in the Highlands.
Beatrice Bradshaw crafts spicy contemporary romances set across Scotland – whisking readers away to glens and windswept coastlines without the need for a plane ticket!
So lovely to be back in Thistle Glen on the Isle of Skye! Beatrice Bradshaw writes the most charming meet-cutes and this one is a doozy :)
Irish Canadian Lily Campbell legs it, still in her dress, from the fancy wedding ceremony engineered by her wealthy and aloof parents. Young Alfie finds her hiding in his dad’s shed and brings her inside. It’s great fun from there as Lily gets stuck into looking after Alfie, who is only seven, as she fights her attraction to his grumpy (and very sexy) dad, Cailean Kincaid.
Lily is a delight. She has an image of herself based on all the things she’s been told, and it’s wonderful to watch her grow in confidence as Cailean and Alfie’s family take her in and support her. Cailean is a tougher nut to crack, but their attraction is real. He’s eleven years older, and has (seemingly) had all the life experience and disappointments. His business is precarious, and even with family support, it’s a juggle to earn a living and raise Alfie. The tension feels real: Cailean wants to hold it all together and resist Lily; she just wants a place for herself where she is loved and valued. Let’s just say it’s takes Cailean much longer than Lily to see what is in front of him. It’s steamy and yearn-y and tender and so satisfying.
The Isle itself forms part of the drama - I adored everything from Cailean's cottage, to the weather, the narrow lanes, delicious baking, and pints in the pub.
And shout out to dear Alfie, who is terrific!
Thank you Beatrice Bradshaw for the ARC. Opinions are my own.
Another great read from this author! It was fantastic to be back in Thistle Glen. If you fell in love with Lucas and Cleo in Hot Scot Summer, get ready to fall in love with his Cousin!
Single dad Cailean has a quiet, structured life. Caring for his son Alfie, and running his company keeps him busy. The last thing he needs is a young runaway bride showing up at his place, and charming his son... or is it the exact thing he needs? (Of course, we know Lily is right where she's supposed to be! )
The chemistry between these two, and the way they interact kept the pages flipping. I love how easy it is to attach with the characters and their emotions. Her "nanny" skills may be questionable, but her ability to be exactly what they need is solid. Fighting his attraction to Lily only works for so long - and their sizzling attraction bubbles over! So good!
It is an engaging and entertaining storyline that kept me invested from beginning to end and I recommend this author and this series. Once done here, visit her catalog for more addictive stories.
Fortunate to have received an ARC from the author (thank you) I happily leave my thoughts.
Heat and heart abound in Beatrice Bradshaw’s latest novel, a runaway bride-turned-temporary-nanny romance set in breathtaking Scotland. Lily and Cailean are excellent foils for each other: her unorthodox, chaotic ways clash perfectly with his ultra practical nature. The wellbeing of a precocious and quirky seven year old boy is their united purpose, and he’s hellbent on matchmaking the pair of them.
I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m sharing my honest review.
Too Scot To Handle was such a sweet read. I loved the story and felt that the concept was solid. The cover is cute and is very well drawn. It features an illustrated couple which I believe is Cailean and Lily. The colours were great and worked well. The writing is really good and the story flowed beautifully. The book is written in first person and in a dual POV format - Lily and Cailean. I like this format in a sweet romance like this. The book is set in a wee fictional village called Thistle Glen in the Scottish Highlands. I loved this setting. It gave the book a cosy feel. The characters were all great. Cailean and Lily were well thought out and developed. I thought that they worked well together. Cailean as the rugged Scottish grump and Lily as the ray of sunshine Canadian. I adored Alfie. He is Cailean’s son. The rest of the characters were good and it was nice to see Cleo and Lucas from the first book too. I definitely recommend the book and the series.
Another great read and arc from the brilliant @beatricebradshawauthor Thank you so much Bea! You know how much I love your books and make it a single dad romance 😍😍 yes!!
I adored this naturally, the major Grumpy of Cailean vs the Canadian Sunshine that is Lily! Then throw in a wee Rocket such as Alfie and you got yourself such a brilliant book.
The worst nanny and the grumpiest single dad.... what could possibly go wrong...... or right! I love being back in Thistle Glen, we get to see familiar faces and some new ones. We also discover a princess in the shed in the middle of the night..... interesting 🤔
Grab this amazing read a whole week earlier than the zon! Buy directly from Beatrice herself 😍❤️
This was such a great book!! If you love a steamy romance set in the Scottish Highlands featuring an age-gap romance with a grumpy single dad, a feisty, lovable runaway bride and the sweetest little boy, this one is for you!
Cailean Kincaid desperately needs childcare, and when his son discovers a “princess” he immediately adores, hiring her as their temporary nanny seems like the perfect solution. Cailean has built walls around his heart to protect himself and his son, but he can't turn away someone who needs help, especially someone as beautiful as Lily.
Lily never makes it to her wedding after realizing her fiancé isn't in love with her and that she isn't in love with him either. After a lifetime of being told how to live and what to feel, she's finally choosing herself. With nowhere to go, she finds herself taking shelter in Cailean's shed and unexpectedly landing a job as his nanny. It's only temporary, but it doesn't take long for her to wish it could be forever.
I absolutely adored this story! Watching Cailean and Lily slowly let down their guards, grow and open themselves up to love and happiness was so heartwarming. Cailean is the ultimate lovable grump: stubborn, swoony and with a heart of pure gold. Total book boyfriend perfection! Lily is sweet, relatable and impossible not to root for as she finds her confidence and discovers what she truly wants. I also loved the supporting cast. They were all fantastic! Alfie completely stole my heart, the cats provided plenty of laughs and the friends and family added so much to the story.
With plenty of angst, drama, sizzling tension, laughs and a few tears, this was an absolute delight. Beatrice Bradshaw delivered a page-turner that kept me hooked and rooting for this couple all the way to their happily ever after. Highly recommend!!
We have two characters seemingly opposite. One grumpy, tightly coiled single dad Cailen, versus Lily, a seemingly ditzy, irresponsible woman escaping her wedding - in the dress she didn’t choose.
She’s a fantastic character- fun, charming & cheeky - she ought to feel confident enough to conquer all.
You want to draw Lily in for a hug & a good talking to, then pick up the phone & explain a few things to her parents.
She has an instant rapport with Alfie; she doesn’t try to convince the 7 year old to like her, she’s not fake, just herself. They click & it’s a fun fest for the pair from then on. Alfie needs the connection with Lily & as their bond strengthens we see how much she needs it too.
She challenges Cailen constantly. We see just how good this is for him. Their banter & disagreements are of course top notch.
The magnetic pull between them makes their entanglement inevitable and it’s a fun build up with tension brimming. When they come together it’s pure romantic magic. And very, very sexy🔥🌶️ There is open door spice.
There’s a bit that makes this a stand out book for me. No spoiler – but there’s a point when he thinks he’s doing the right thing & I was *desperate* for things to be alright. I mean tears and a sore chest
I’m a huge fan of Beatrice Bradshaw but this book blew me away. I have never felt the ups & downs so deeply as I did with them.
🏴 Too Scot to Handle: love, tears, spice & the cutest seven-year-old. 🖊️ and yes, the sharpie scene is bloody hilarious
I loved everything about this rom-com. I instantly fell in love with the characters. The whole time I had a big goofy smile on my face and laugh out loud moments a plenty! The grump to sunshine ratio is perfection. And the ooh la la moments … grab your aloe vera, you might just get burnt. Even the build up is scorching … the pub, the hot tub … Descriptions are beautifully crafted pulling you right into the highlands of Scotland. This is not a whimsical, over the top fantasy romance, it’s steeped in real life - it’s a real life perspective on romance but no less enjoyable and addictive to read, if anything, more so. Simply put the characters are relatable and so much fun and the family dynamics only add to it. Family banter is at its finest and draws you in as if you are sitting round the dinner table right there with them. A true found family story. And don’t get me started on Alfie - a most adorable seven year old, my heart went out to him no end of times and love the trust he gives to Lily right from the start. And that sharpie eyebrow moment … chefs kiss! Got to love those mama bear moments from Lily and the deeply growly possessiveness of Cailean. I am grateful for receiving a free copy of the ebook from the author as an advance reader. So clear your diary and escape to Scotland in this immersive story for your next hot, grumpy, single dad, book boyfriend.
The story follows Lily, a runaway bride who crashes into Thistle Glen and accidentally becomes the nanny for Cailean's adorable young son, Alfie.
Watching Lily effortlessly handle Cailean's brooding moods while building such a sweet, fiercely protective bond with Alfie absolutely melted me. Her bright energy is exactly what this little family needed, and their forced proximity in a cozy cottage sparks incredible banter and an earned, slow-burn chemistry.
I appreciated getting Cailean’s perspective too. Beatrice Bradshaw writes dual-point-of-view beautifully, and seeing inside his head completely changes the dynamic from a standard grumpy-hero trope to something much deeper.
As an older, protective single dad, Cailean is fiercely guarded because his priority is always protecting Alfie. Reading his internal thoughts shows that his gruff exterior isn't just meanness; it's a shield to keep his family safe after past heartbreak.
The contrast between his rigid internal rules and the chaotic attraction he feels toward Lily is heartwarming. Watching his defenses crumble as he observes Lily’s genuine love for Alfie makes the slow-burn payoff so much more satisfying. Getting to read his side of the chemistry adds a great layer of vulnerability to a classic alpha hero.
A great second book in the Thistle Glen series. Thanks to Beatrice Bradshaw for the copy of the book, these are my thoughts.
Lily is an almost bride who is devastated and unsure of what comes next especially since she is so far away from her home in Canada, now she has to find a way to survive the shame and rebuild in beautiful Scotland while moonlighting as a nanny to Alfie. This girl is the definition of rich city girl who should not be trusted with children but she is about to find out what she is really made out and for. Cailean is a single father to Alfie and in dire need of help to care for him while he secures a large account for his work. Once Alfie finds Lily, there is no denying that the boy and her share a connection, so he offers her the position, not counting on how difficult it is going to be to try to avoid her smiles, her chats, her chaos and how his boy seems to bloom under her care. The attraction between them is electric from the start! Their banter, the way she challenges him, the constant push pull reactions, the spice, and all the tender moments are just perfection,
If you have never read a book by Beatrice Bradshaw, then start with this and you will laugh, swoon, and feel for the characters!
Its magical that with its unique character, stunning views and a picturesque language this author makes us fall in love with every single novel… I for once surrender willingly to the power of a heartwarming and heartfelt story ✨
For me, what stole my heart since pretty the first scene is Alfie, he’s seriously the cutest kid ever, period. It’s impossible not to love him! But more than that I love his relationship with Lily, it’s not the typical she’s a kiddos’ whisperer (no shame on those stories, I love them too) because she’s not, she a chaos queen when kids are related so the relationship she and alfie form is genuine, unexpected and so endearingly sweet! I loved the organic chemistry between them…
About our FMC and MMC they have a great character development both individually and as a couple… them together is unexpectedly bittersweet because at the beginning I was like ok they never going to work together and then they worked too well together but their time has a date limit so what happens then, when the time is over?
I had an amazing time reading this story, it’s funny, heartwarming, sweet, sexy as hell because yes Cailean ( the sexy grump ) has all the Scottish commanding energy going on, but more that that it felt genuine and special!
I can't say enough how much I loved this book!!!!!
Think Runaway Bride meets Scottish romance, but just SOOOOO much better!!!
After Lily's fiancé asks ChatGPT whether he should marry her on the eve of their wedding, Lily does what any self-respecting runaway bride would do...hightails it across the heath and bogs and ends up in Cailean Kincaid's shed!
The rest? You'll have to discover for yourself!
This book had me literally laughing out loud one minute and crying the next. My heart felt like it had tripled in size by the end!
The love and joy woven throughout this story absolutely melted me. From Lily and Cailean to his beautiful, hilarious son Alfie, and the Kincaid family as a whole, this book is bursting with warmth, love and the most wonderful family banter.
Lily is wonderfully sassy and chaotic, while Cailean has that delicious grumpy energy hiding a HUGE heart and I adored them both!
The chemistry, the humour, the emotional moments, the family dynamics… I loved EVERYTHING about this book!
By the end, I was literally squealing and kicking my legs like a teenager with the biggest crush!
Now then ,we’re back reading about the goings on in Thistle Glen. Let me tell you, this hen Lily Campbell is founding hiding aloft. Well it’s in a shed not a loft or a coop for pigeons… It was a gamble not getting caught but she was overwrought.
Oh erm sorry went off on a bit of a tangent… She’s no special agent or spy. But she was there to hide and here’s why. She’s a runaway bride. Found by a seven year old lad by the name of Alfie. Cailean is his dad. Isn’t it uncanny, he is in need of a nanny…
Well she’ll handle this gig for three months, what could go wrong? So she’s not into kids and has no qualifications to name. But she’s in deep is this dame and in need of a good night’s sleep. Surely she can last the term without termination with grit and determination. That’s all well and good but don’t be losing your heart as well as your head.. Enough said. Awesome prose as always and oh my days there’s some chemistry. Off the charts and cute too. À well rounded story, let me tell you. And it’s got spicy scenes that are a dream too. Phew 😮💨
Thank you @beatricebradshawauthor & @literaryinspired for the ARC.

Too Scot to Handle by Beatrice Bradshaw is the story of Lily, Cailean and Alfie.
When Lily runs away from her wedding at a castle in Scotland, she takes refuge from the rain in a small shed, where she is discovered by Alfie, a 7 1/2 year-old boy. Alfie thinks he’s discovered a princess! But Alfie’s dad, Cailean, is not as thrilled as his son with their unexpected arrival.
When Cailean tries to return Lily to her family, he discovers very quickly that there are multiple reasons why she may have run (not just because of her wishy-washy fiancée) and quickly offers for her to remain at his home to help solve an impending childcare crisis.
So begins this charming book by Beatrice Bradshaw. I have read many of Bradshaw‘s other books and always find her characters believable and complex and her storylines engaging and realistic. This book is no exception and I highly recommend Too Scot to Handle, along with any of Bradshaw’s other novels.
Loved this story Welcome back to Thistle Glen, this is book 2 and it’s Cailean’s story. He’s a single dad of 7 year old Alfie and cousin of Lucas from the first Thistle Glen story. Alfie finds of all things, a runaway bride in his dad's shed in the Highlands, taking her in as part of the family. Lily’s life is a mess and looking after children is not for her but she and Alfie have a special connection. She also happens to be extremely attracted to the gorgeous grump, that is Alfie’s dad. I love a runaway bride story, add in a hot grumpy older man that fights their attraction to a younger woman and I’m happily reading this story. Not to forget that Alfie stole the show also. There’s emotional moments, spicy scenes, plenty of banter and so much fun. A wonderful story with loveable characters throughout this book. Looking forward to many more stories in Thistle Glen. Thank you Beatrice Bradshaw for the opportunity to read this story.
- Single father - Runaway bride - Small town romance - Nanny romance
This book is equal parts hilarious and swoony. When the quirky Lily decides not to get married the night before her wedding, she makes a dramatic window exit. This scene alone sets the entire quirky tone of the book - Lily is a mess, but is true to herself.
She ends up at a small cottage in the Highlands and is rescued by the sweetest boy, Alfie. Alfie's dad Cailean is not as delighted to find Lily.... but when child care is urgently needed, Cailean goes against his better judgment and asks Lily to watch Alfie. And thus, their little family begins..
Lily has no plans on staying in Scotland for long, but also relishes the thought of independence from her, dare I say, ice parents... Cailean has no plans on having a woman in his house, but soon cannot picture his life without the wildly irrepressible Lily.
This is a slow burn, full of longing and true emotional connection. Such a fabulous story!
Beatrice has truly outdone herself with this one. This is, without a doubt, my favourite book I’ve read from her! I swear, if this were a movie, you wouldn’t be able to grab the tissues fast enough.
I absolutely loved Lily’s sassiness and sarcasm paired with Cailean’s brooding grumpiness! Their personalities made for such a fun dynamic, and I was pulled into this story right from the start. As the characters developed, I loved discovering how their outward personas were often a way of hiding their deeper emotions and vulnerabilities. There was so much more beneath the surface, and seeing how their story unfolds made it even more special. And OMG… the grand gesture of ALL grand gestures! 😭🥰 My heart! So incredibly perfect! ❤️ And can we talk about that COVER?! 🧡🩵 I absolutely love it! And knowing that Beatrice drew and created it herself makes it even more special. She did an amazing job!! Such a perfect cover for an equally wonderful story. 😍✨
I was hooked by this found family romance from the first scenes where runaway bride Lily stumbles upon lovable seven year old Alfie and his grumpy dad Cailean one rainy night. Single dads with kids are my favorite trope and the author really aced the connection and camaraderie between Lily and Alfie, one of the key roots to Cailean's heart. The obstacles to the romance were believable and I loved how the job Lily falls into gives her so much opportunity to disprove all those criticisms her parents have heaped on her since her lonely childhood. The climax was such fun, too.
Great, easy writing style and a romance that gets properly steamy but has heart, warmth and so much more.
Thanks to the author for sharing an advance copy; this is my voluntary and honest assessment.
Another hilarious and heartbreaking warming read by Beatrice. This is book 2 in the Thistle Glen series - but can be read as a standalone. Was nice seeing Cleo and Lucas again though.
I adored Alfie, what an adorable wee boy. Lily was an awesome character and I love how down to earth she was (and The Callum bit 🤣) Lily and Cailean were just fab and so was his family. Many smiles and giggles were had.
What do you do when the man you're meant to marry isn't who you want to spend forever with? Obviously climbing out a window the night before, running into the Scottish Highlands in your wedding dress and ending up in a shed getting questioned by a 7year old...
What do you do when it's midnight and your 7 year old has found a Princess in the shed he wants to keep? Obviously employ her to be the nanny. You're desperate. She's desperate. It can only work...right?
First of all, the Scottish terms and insults are superior and I will be calling fools numpties from here on out.
I appreciated the fact that Lily expressed how horrible she thought she was with children and then proceeded to be far from perfect… The kid was never in danger, but she was a bit unconventional 🙃 And yet, this normally hesitant kid latched onto her immediately and wanted to keep her around.
Of course, Cailean felt the same way, but needed quite a while to admit to everyone, including himself, how true that was. Thank goodness for his family sorting him out!
This was super cute and full of laughs as I’ve come to expect from Beatrice.
Thanks to the author and Literary Inspired for the advance copy 💝 Available now on the author’s store and widely on October 29th!
After reading (and loving) the first book in this Thistle Glen series back in June, I just had to come back for some more Scottish shenanigans and that's exactly what I got.
When Lily flees her castle wedding, she's found hiding out in Cailean's shed and in need of rescuing.
When his son Alfie firmly attached himself to the fun stranger, a plan starts to form.
It was so easy to just fall straight back into life at the glen and yep, I still want to go and live there.
It sounds so idyllic despite (or maybe because of) the grumpy Scot determined he's done with love.
We could all see where this story was heading but this trope never gets old and I instantly connected with both characters and couldn't wait to see Lily break Cailean down and show him that she's just what he needs in his life.
With a little help from little Alfie, that's exactly what happened.
This was another spicy read - what do we expect now - but I was so there for it all.
But this did have me chuckling so bad with the banter throughout.
Poor Lily was not made for nannying, but she certainly proved that she was more than enough for this little family - I just loved her chaos.
I absolutely love this series and can't wait to see what's coming in book 3....
Thank you to Beatrice Bradshaw for the eARC of Too Scot to Handle - all opinions are honest and my own ✨
We’re back in Thistle Glen, this time with an age-gap, grumpy-sunshine romance and the worlds sweetest seven year old. The Kincaid family have a special place in my heart and this instalment was no exception.
I love how we explored Lily’s journey to independence and becoming her own person, all while breaking down the walls of grumpy single dad Cailean - those walls really were made of Highland stone!
The epilogue was so cute, and different from the usual epilogues you usually see in romance novels which I was grateful for.
If you’re after a small town romance, come join us in Thistle Glen ✨
This book is one hot hot hot read. I adored every moment about it. And loved the characters so much. I laughed. I swooned. I blushed a ridiculous amount. Cailean and Lily were so wonderful together. They complement each other in the best ways. Grumpy and sunshine meld perfectly. The connection between Cailean and Lily was so genuine and heartfelt. They are beyond relatable. And their dynamic was so intriguing. I was lost in their banter and their bond. But what melted my heart until a puddle was the bond Lily had with Alfie. It was so sweet and caring and beautiful. This book will have you believing in real love and experiencing a bond that melts your heart.
Daughter of wealthy and distant parents Lily Campbell runs the night before her wedding to escape a loveless match her parents chose. She ends up in Cailean Kincaid’s shed and is found by his son Alfie. Can a runaway bride turned child minder find love in the glen?
I absolutely loved Lily and Cailean’s story. Lily realizes she’s not what her parents have made her to be and has the street smarts to do anything she puts her mind to. Love the banter and jokes. I laughed and cried and absolutely loved the bus scene! Still love the cats and glad they made an appearance in this one as well! Love this series so much!
A steamy romance between a runaway bride and a hot daddy, yes please! I really enjoyed this book a lot. The chemistry was on point and the pacing was for me just right. Most of all, I am a sucker for stories involving kids and/or animals. Lily learning to trust herself and standing up for what she wants in life instead of only settling for what everyone else wants for her, and Cailean learning to trust that love and care can be freely given if you open yourself up to it make both our main characters relatable and realistic. The only reason I didn't give this book a full 5 stars is that I wished the book was longer to give Lilys backstory more room to develop.
This was such a fun read! A runaway bride hiding in a shed found by a quirky cute kid starts it all. What begins as a situation of convenience, this story turns into a heartfelt found family with lots of funny quips. Lily doesn’t know what it’s like to have a loving family, while Cailean and his son deal with abandonment issues. Together they heal from past trauma. Learning they can rely on each other, and love has no limits. I highly recommend this book if you love age gap, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, and lots of humor.
This is book 2 in an interconnected series. You can read this as a stand alone, it will just give some spoilers away from book 1. Lily ends up being found by Alfie when she runs away the night before her wedding. Cailean is a single dad who has shielded his heart but they break little by little. Lily thinks she’s horrible with kids but she is so good with Alfie. I liked seeing Lily build her confidence and making her own decisions. This book has lots of laugh out loud moments. I can’t wait to see which Kincaid gets the next book.
I absolutely loved this book! As a fellow Canadian, this story warmed my heart since Lily is also Canadian! 🇨🇦
Another great read from one of my favourite authors.
It follows runaway bride named Lily who ends up in the shed and is found by a young boy named Alfie. Then the grumpiest dad meets her and hires her as a nanny for little Alfie. The relationship between Alfie and Lily is absolutely adorable. (no spoilers)
Spicy level is super high!!
Loved every minute of reading this book. Thanks again Beatrice!!
I enjoyed this book so much. Lily is a very complicated character. She is strong, brave, and leans into adventure. I loved reading her discovery to how amazing she is and what she is capable of. The way Alfie found her and wanted to keep her was so so sweet and funny. They instantly bonded and definitely ganged up on Cailean. Poor grumpy broody Cailean never stood a chance. Watching Cailean and Lily’s relationship develop was sweet and I loved how it centered around Alfie also. It was a great story and easy to read with some spice. Plus it’s in Scotland!!!!
