Every Breaking Wave is a thoughtful and engrossing tale of growing out of a bad relationship and into a good one. The heroine struggles with single motherhood, trying to figure out the best way to raise her young son after she leaves her cheating husband. In the end, while there is a solid romantic thread, the story reads almost as chick lit instead of romance...which gave it a much-appreciated depth.

On another note, the New England setting is just enough different from mainstream books of this genre to be engrossing. The romantic lead is a lobsterman, and it's intriguing to learn more about the highlights (and lowlights) of that profession.

This is the fourth or fifth book of Isbell's that I've read, and I have to say it's her best to date. I'm looking forward to seeing where she goes next!

I wanted to love this book. I've LOVED everything else that Megan Nugen Isbell has written. But I just couldn't get on board with the main character Beth.
Beth comes home to find her husband cheating on her best friend. She escapes to her family's beach house with her son to "find herself" and falls in love with the handsome neighbor. Meanwhile the ex-husband, full of remorse, figures out what he lost and wants a chance to be a family again.
I really wanted Beth to pull it together and be a strong woman but she was so bitter and wishy-washy that she just ended up annoying me.
Overall the book was ok, but after the build up of Isbell's previous work, Every Breaking Wave fell flat for me.

I come from a family where divorce isn't the end of the world. We all get along and function normally. The parents, step-parents, kids and the half siblings. The one thing our parents have always done for us kids is put us first. And thank god they did because our family wouldn't be what it is today if our parents hadn't been such good role models for us.
I liked Beth at the beginning. She reminded me of my parents, putting her son Noah first. I knew she was hurting over her divorce from her unfaithful husband, Darren. A year prior she had come home early from a trip with their sick son and caught Darren in their bed with one of her best friends. She immediately kicked him out and divorced his ass. I thought she was finally a female lead character when it came to cheating who acted appropriately.
And often when cheating is involved... Beth takes the hit very personally. She worries she had been a bad wife. Or what she did to make him look elsewhere. Her self esteem is at an all time low. When there is betrayal and trust is broken... it can shatter a person and make them put up guards to stop from ever being hurt that way again. That happened with Beth.
Beth doesn't expect to meet someone while on vacation with her son for the summer. But she comes across their neighbour/handyman Jeremy. Who is so sweet and adorable with her son and who is kind and caring with her too. Jeremy was a dream man. Not many like him in the world so it bothered me when she'd hold her issues with Darren against him. Or when the person she should have been snapping at was Darren not Jeremy. I understood why though. She thought he was too good to be true. But still...
About half way through the book, Darren comes to visit. And I immediately didn't like him. He was smug, arrogant and manipulative. I couldn't believe how Beth let him treat her. Beth just let Darren walk all over her. He got his way every time, in every conversation. I understand they have a child together... but the way he used Noah constantly against her was disgusting. Honestly. The way he made her feel guilty for their marriage ending and their family breaking up was sickening. Deflecting blame onto her for their divorce just was so wrong. And Beth just took it. She knew she was letting him in her head but she didn't do anything to stop it. She had a great guy in her life with Jeremy, someone who had gone out of his way to put her and Noah first. Someone who hadn't hurt her or destroyed her family like Darren had.
The problem was... Darren's reasoning about Noah needing the family to be together under one roof was absurd and ridiculous. Beth knew it but she let him mess with her head. If Noah had been struggling, if he was seriously torn apart by their divorce I could see them trying to put up a good front for him but Noah was perfectly fine. He got used to them being split. And he loved Jeremy. Why could Beth see that Noah was lucky enough to have two Dads? Daren only wanted her back because she had moved on, how couldn't she see that?
Beth just ended up being weak and pitiful to me. At the beginning when she dealt with Darren she had been cold and distant. Only talking through Noah. But once he got his hooks back in her, she let him push her around. I didn't like how she kept Darren's pursuit of her from Jeremy until after he had made a move. I felt like in the end, Beth didn't really deserve Jeremy anymore.

Every Breaking Wave

This was recommended in a Facebook group and I'm so happy I read it!
I really enjoyed this book. Beth was heartbroken after she unexpectedly came home early with her son to find her husband with the OW. Devastated she slowly starts to rebuild her life and meets the real H Jeremy. He was a good man and loved her son, he just needed Beth to catch up to his feelings.
Darren came back and wanted Beth back, using her son. I could understand where she was going and thinking about, we'd do anything for our kids. But Beth was stronger that she knew. Who will she chose?? Hmmmm

I really liked this story!!

Nice Setting

This book was just OK for me. I liked the setting of a small beach town in Maine. I've been to Maine and it is beautiful. I didn't like Beth much. She seemed to be a good mom, but she was rude to Jeremy more than once and he was way too understanding. I liked Jeremy and his sister. Beth's son, Noah, was cute. I just don't understand what was so appealing about Beth to Jeremy and her ex-husband, who was trying to get her back.
I seem to be in the minority on this book because there are reviews of readers loving it. It just wasn't for me.

Loved

This was such a great book! I loved that Beth took a journey to learn to love herself again. I'm also happy that she dealt with some real life post divorce feeling and that things weren't just sugar coated.

Megan Nugen Isbell writes another wonderful story with Every Breaking Wave. Isbell always manages to nail writing a 5 star book with an effortless ease drawing you into its pages and falling in love with her characters and their story. Every Breaking Wave is the story of Beth and Jeremy. Beth, a recently single mom who is still mending her broken heart after finding her cheating husband in bed with another woman, embarks on a journey with her son to rediscover peace in life. Going back to her grandparent's summer cottage, she meets her neighbor Jeremy. Jeremy is unlike any other man she's ever met. He is kind, gentle, patient, and interested in her for who she is and peace only she can bring. Beth is not looking to mend her broken heart, but to recharge and adapt to the new life she never expected to live. Meeting Jeremy is the unexpected path that she never thought she attempt to take. Their heartfelt story of mended hearts is one you absolutely must read. One of my most favorite things about Isbell's writing is her ability to write real stories, with real characters that face every day tough decisions and feelings. Every Breaking Wave contains all of those wonderful moments and feelings that you have to have in a must read book. Take a chance on Beth and Jeremy's story and fall in love just like I did.

I absolutely loved this book! This was my 1st book by Megan, but will not be my last. I loved Megan's writing style it wasn't a "sex book" it was a romance book. EBW was about Beth who's husband cheated on her therefore got a divorce. She and her son, Noah, went to her families beach home for the summer to just get away from everyday life. Then we have Jeremy the local great guy. They tried to date but Beth was still standoffish because of what happened with her ex Darren and also cause she wanted to put her son's needs 1st. Well the rest YOU will have to find out when you read the book cause I'm not going to tell you. ***Won ARC for Honest Review**

Every Breaking Wave has a great basis. Beth leaves her cheating husband to go to her family's beach house to regroup with her son.

Jeremy is her neighbor at the beach house and has been maintaining the yard for the family. He becomes friends with Beth and her son.

Beth' son Noah is such a cutie.

Isbell gave me humor, sexy time and angst. I fell just short of loving it. I wanted Beth to be a bit more bad a** and Jeremy to be a bit more aggressive. But that is on me, not the author. A sweet love story any romance reader would enjoy.

Cute Story!

I just wish there'd been less dramatic episodes with Beth's character. But still a lot more romantic scenes from the characters was nice. I wonder what is in the cards for Darren. This is a should read story.
