In June 2011 a mission team co-led by Dwight and Emma Saunders (a dad and daughter) from the US was serving at an orphanage in Africa. Moving through the orphanage that day, Emma found, in the darkened corner, an emaciated and dying baby girl. Struggling for life, her big brown eyes seemed to be pleading, "Please! Will you help me?"Emma ran to her dad, Dwight, calling, "Daddy! Daddy! Come quick! This baby! She's dying! We have to do something!"Following Emma to the darkened corner of the room, he was stunned at what he found, words inadequate to describe. Emaciated. Mere skin draped over her protruding bones. Her sweet head much larger than her boney exposed limbs. He gasped. ‘Dying’ is the only word that really could describe her. And at that divinely God-orchestrated moment, Almighty God broke his heart for her. One baby girl, but a picture perfect representative of the millions and millions of orphans globally needing someone to desperately care about them. Emma and Dwight learned that day that this baby girl was actually just over a year old and she weighed barely six pounds. She was truly dying!
Wonderful story, very conversational style. Such a beautiful narrative of their adoption journey. I need to go to the blog and get the up to date news on Ruby after reading this book. It was a quick read, in fact after the half way point I couldn't put it down. Inspiring and uplifting.
I read this book again this weekend. It is just a testament to God's faithfulness. Such a good reminder that God is with us every single moment. You NEED to read this book!! So happy to have hugged Linny's neck last summer, and meet the family. They are the real deal and they have made an impact on my life.
This is so much more than a story of rescuing Ruby. It is about how God orchestrates the moments in our lives in a grand design that we could neither plan nor imagine. It is also about the miraculous and our God who is still in the business of miracles. It is also about orphan care and God's heart for His people to care for the vulnerable around the world.
