Remembering Sunday

Daughter. Sister. Best Friend. Quiet girl with a heart of gold.
My name is Reagan Carter, and this—what you see above—is my life.
At least it was until Cole showed up and made me question everything I’ve ever known.
I’ve always thought there was something different about me, but now he’s given me the reason why.
The windows to my glass house have been shattered and there’s no way with what I know now, they can ever be put back together again.
Reagan Carter is dead.
And now it’s up to me to remember Sunday.

Mother, Sister, Daughter, Best Friend, Avid Book Reader, Author, Overall Crazy Person.

I'm Melyssa and I was born and raised in what is now known as the mega city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I'm the country girl stuck in the city girls body and anytime I can get away from the big city lights and settle somewhere far more slower is always such a treat.

I'm a mother to probably the four most amazing kids on the planet. (Yes that's a typical mom answer isn't it?) They have brought so much joy to my life and without them I'm not entirely sure where or what I'd be doing. They've taught me so much that I only hope I can do the same for them as they grow.

When I'm not with them I'm doing one of two things. Either curled up with my e-reader and as many books as I can handle or watching marathons of Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy or Veronica Mars.

Lastly, I'm always on the lookout for my next book boyfriend, even if I have to create him in my own stories. can't go wrong with a good book boyfriend. :)

This book was a breath of fresh air. Whoever knows me, know that I adore this author. She has a way with words, and she's able to deliver to the reader everything that the characters are feeling.

So.. What this book is about?

We have Cole, our Hero.
I adored him!
He was loyal. Smart. Tender. Caring. Badass & helplessly broken. When he was young, he was adopted. There, he met a boy his age named Luke. These two became best friends in the blink of an eye, spending every waking moment together.

One fine day, Luke's mother gave birth and then came Sunday into the world. From that moment on, Cole's life had never been the same.

"I still remember the way she looked at me that day. A look that in the seventeen years since still haunts me."

Cole and Sunday connected from the get-go. She was the bright light that illuminated his sad, black world. He adored her & somehow, always pulled in her direction. You can already tell he had a soft spot for her. All went well until the day she had disappeared without a trace, leaving her family & Cole broken.

description

Years passed, no one knows what happened to her, until Cole's life took a new turn. He got a new mission to fulfill.... Something, that up till this day, everyone gave up on, never thinking it would be possible. His mission was - Bringing Sunday back home.

"The imprint of Sunday is going to be with me forever."

When he got to where she was supposed to be & finally found her, he recognized her instantly. And she took his breath away. The baby girl he once knew grew up, and in her place stood a stunning woman that made his heart beat for the first time in a long while.

"For the first time in a year, I've got to tame the beast inside. The one actually interested in a woman."

description

His mission was to find her and bring her back home. That's it. But something wasn't right. This woman... His Sunday... She's not Sunday anymore. She's Reagan Carter. She had a mom & dad. She had a little brother. A job. She looked... Happy.
Unfortunately for him, his mission was to shake her foundation and turn her world upside down, with the news about her real identity.

How could he do that to her?

But before anything else... He just had to talk to her. Just for a moment. He saw her for the first time in years & felt this pull towards her, like she was a magnet and he was the steel.

He spoke to her & let her light shine over him again. And then, talking with her once wasn't enough. He wanted more. More time with her, to get to know her. He just wanted to be a little bit more around her rays of light before he destroyed her world.

"It's me being selfish and doing something for me."

So he did just that.
Those two shared some magical moments together. I loved to see their bond creating anew, as if their souls reconnected after being away from each other for so long. They were cute & intense & funny & enchanting together.

"In just a few days she's tattooed herself on my soul. I'm never going to recover from this."

description

Cole knew he was heading towards a train wreck he wouldn't be able to stop. Because when she will learn the news about herself... When she learns that he knew this all along.... Things wouldn't be pretty.

"Something so wrong feeling this right is a joke. It has to be."

Okay, let's talk about the secondary characters for a bit.

Luke -
Where can I even start? And where can I get my own Luke Graysons?
Seriously. This guy.... When he learned that his sister was alive, he had to go there. He had to SEE her. Touch her. Feel her. His little sister. His sunshine. He almost gave up on the hope to see her again & his reaction to the discovery warmed my heart <3

"I would die for that little girl.
Except she's not that little anymore.
Big, little, it doesn't even matter. She's still my sunshine and I'll do whatever I can for her."

description

I adored him. He was everything I would wish in a brother. He would cut a limb for her, and go to the end of the earth to bring her back. When she had disappeared, a part of him died and he was never the same. Finding her again felt for him like a ray of sunlight in the middle of the storm.

Jake - He was her little brother, and I freaking loved him. He was loyal to her and cared about her deeply (even though he didn't show it all the time). I loved how close they were even thought they weren't blood-related. It's only showsing that family, you don't have to be born into it. You can sometimes choose. I would definitely want to read a book about this adorable Rockstar. And a small bird whispered in my ear it would be something out of this world ;)

Beth - She was the ultimate best friend. The one who would make you laugh & give you advice & push you when you're stuck in place & can't bring yourself to move forward. She and Luke intrigued me and I would definitely devour their book. Something tells me, those two would be EPIC together.

James - He was a sick Basterd. This guy was evil from his roots & no redemption waited for him. He was 100% sure he was doing the right thing and would go to the ends of the world to secure & keep it.

I really enjoyed Cole & Sunday story. We had the young, puppy love that a little boy felt for baby Sunday. We had the grown up Cole, who found this baby & was supposed to shatter her world, but couldn't. He was stuck between both worlds - his past & present - that were meant to collide.

description

"Sunday is what connects us, but Reagan is what makes me stay."

His love for her shines throughout the whole book, and I felt him. I felt his pain. I felt his love. I felt his conflict. He didn't want to hurt her, but there was no way for him to prevent it. He was in too deep with no way out. He wanted her. Wanted to be with her... Fell in love with her. How could he be the one to break her reality apart?

"I'm not supposed to want you this bad! Do you get it yet, Reagan? You and I aren't supposed to be anything, but whenever I'm around you, I forget all of that because all I want is for us to be everything!"

description

"I love you so god damned much I can't see straight. I've never felt like this before, Rea."

How everything gonna end?

"Tell me what you want."
"You." I don't even hesitate admitting. "I just want you."

That's for you guys to find out ;p

"I want to make my first love my last love.
My only love."

Overall, this book was freaking epic. I loved it to pieces & highly recommend it.

4. 25 stars. What I can say but another great read! This is a romance/suspense book. I absolutely loved Cole and Reagan/Sunday. I cried, laughed, got angry , frustrated and finally happy:) Luke , oh that man I love him he has to be the best big brother ever! I can't wait to read more about him. Jake was an awesome lil brother. but I felt the whole playing at bars and girls all over him was a bit much for his age. Beth was a a great best friend! If I'm being completely honest I didn't care to much for some things. Like the mentioning of their exes quite a bit ,I know it's suppose to show us the scars that were left behind but I just didn't like reading about it so much. Another thing is Cole living with his ex . I hate knowing that but I know it was at a bad time and even though he thought he loved her it wasn't nearly half of what he feels for Sunday. in fact he says that. also the fact that I wanted more with Katherine . Like how she reacted to everything ? is she still in her life as her mom? but never the less I think Melyssa is a fantastic writer. She knows how to write a good safe book(which means alot to me) with beautiful, loyal, loving hero and heroine! Im such a big fan and I can't wait to read more ! Also want to thank Melyssa for all the info regarding this book before it went live! it's awesome to have questions answered and knowing all your triggers before actually buying a book! So thank you!

safety: other then them having their exes no OW or OM. H was with his ex for 6 years and h all through high school. H has been with 4 woman and h only her ex. H did live with his ex. she used him and left him for an older rich man. this cause him to go downhill for a while and he is hurt . h's ex cheated on her constantly. same with her she's hurt too. But let me tell you we know what they thought they had with their exes is nothing compared to what they have with each other. They are soul mates no doubt about it. we never see the exes it's only talked about in past tense! It's a pretty clean romance so no oral references:) but they do use a condom in the one sex scene we see:) H is 25 h 18.

Oh one more thing F **k you James!!!!! lol

I forgot to add that I loved the beautiful story that Cole told Sunday when she was litte and the one Sunday told Cole later! Absolutely beautiful:D!

Remembering Sunday: What You Need To Know Before You Read:

1.This book is Romance AND Mystery/Suspense. Both genres given pretty equal billing throughout.
2.This is a standalone (UPDATE: Luke (Sunday's Brother) will have his own book, but this one does not end on a cliffhanger so despite it showing as part of a series, you don't need Luke's book after..unless you want it lol)
3.Mature YA (in my head), but could pass for NA (based on sexual situations and language). Where it falls in the end is reader specific honestly.
4.No Other Women/Men. No love triangles. No cheating, random hooking up, etc. Cole has eyes for Sunday only and vice versa.
5.Reagan has an ex, it's mentioned quite a bit, only because of the emotional scars left behind. Same with Cole. But both of these relationships other than the scars are only spoken of in past terms. They do not appear within the story.
6.Mild Violence in this one. People will get hurt. It's all part of the mystery/suspense. There is also a scene portraying abuse against a minor child (memory/flashback). You’ve been warned. It does get quite dark at times.
7.Sexual Content: There are sexual situations in this story. In some instances rather detailed, but nothing I personally would classify as Erotic. Attraction and desire are expanded on, as is love, but not repeatedly. Only what’s needed to make it work. Neither Cole nor Sunday are virgins though. This is not their first rodeo lol.
8.Cole makes mistakes, but down deep, he's probably one of my best heroes to date. And for me to say that, given the love I have for some of the other characters I’ve written, is saying something. When Cole loves, when he allows himself to feel, he goes all in and it’s a pretty beautiful thing.
9.Sporadic POV's from other people that are central to story progression. Think The Space In Between (if you've read it). They're only there because they further the story. Three from James Carter (Reagans** Father), and a few from Luke Grayson (Sundays**Brother). That’s it. Otherwise it’s all Reagan/Sunday and Cole.
10.James Carter is a sadistic piece of shit character that was never meant to be redeemed and wasn’t. So if you’re looking for redemption here, you won’t find it. He served his purpose well. lmao
11.You might want to bring tissues. This one turned out a whole lot more emotional than I was expecting when I started it.
12.Happily Ever After. Yep. I love that shit. So it's there, but not without some pain first. And if I do say so myself, this is my best ending ever. #TeamCole <3
13.Since everyone when reading romance labels this a different way, I’m going to go on record and label this mildly instalove like. I don’t think it is, considering I know when love actually enters the equation here having written it, and 3 out of 4 beta-readers said that it’s not instalove, with one saying there was mild signs of it “but in a good way” based on history between characters, but if you have an easily triggered instalove button, proceed with caution even though I don’t believe that’s what it is. I’m not having you waste your money or time. I also won’t lie to you either.
14.This is quite frankly unlike anything I’ve ever written before, other than emotional similarities (all of my books seem to do that for reader’s lol).

If everything here suits your fancy, then honestly, you’ll probably dig this. But whether you do or you don’t, I appreciate you taking the chance on it and for that matter, reading this review on it. Thank you <3

Reagan Carter feels out of place. An outsider inside her own family. But it’s something she’s learned to live with. She loves her family and she’s her brother’s biggest fan, who has a startup band he’s trying to promote. She works as a teller at a bank and her life was what it was – until Cole walked through the door.

Cole – I loved him. He was determined to do the right thing but discovered that the hardest thing and the right thing are usually the same.

Working as a private investigator for his best friend and his family, Cole’s job was to find Sunday, missing daughter and sister since she was 18 months old. A lead brings Cole face to face with Reagan Carter / aka Sunday Grayson. Only problem, Reagan doesn’t know she’s Sunday, but Cole does. And this is where things get hairy.

Trust will be built and trust will be broken. Hearts will be shattered and the betrayal will be brutal.

Melyssa took me on a roller coaster of emotions and there was no predicting what would happen next. This romantic suspense is gripping with anticipation, dread, humor, heart, and above all, romance . I fell in love with Cole and Sunday. I also fell in love with Luke Grayson. There was just something about him that made me want to know more about him.

This is yet another beautifully woven story by Melyssa Winchester and definitely one of my favorites.

Taking a different stance on this whole review thing for this. Gonna get some shit out of the way before I go into what I liked about the story so that peeps know what they’re getting into.

Remembering Sunday is a romantic suspense. It’s a story about a secret that one person knows. A secret that will change someone’s life forever. A secret that threatens the feelings that start building the second these two meet. Again.

It’s a standalone story with a clear ending. An endin that romance fans eat up and call a happily ever after. But there’s a boatload of shit that these characters gotta go through before they can reach it.

There’s been some comments about the amount of point of views in this story. What ur actually getting is a view through the main villain’s eyes as well as the eyes of Luke Grayson (Reagan/Sundays brother). It doesn’t happen that much. I think there was like 3 or 4 from James Carter and 5 or 6 from Luke. The book past that is told through Cole and Reagan/Sunday’s eyes only. So if this is gonna cause shit for u, I’m warning u now.

This story is also a little friskier than I’m used to with an MW book. Sexual thoughts expanded on, and love scenes a little more detailed than normal, but nothing out of line.

Ok, with that out of the way.

Reagan Carter is Sunday Grayson. This aint a spoiler. It’s shown real early on, but what makes this one different is that Cole (as a PI) knows who she really is, but Reagan doesn’t. It gets even more complicated because Cole and Sunday know each other. They were pretty damn close before the unthinkable happens and Sunday is kidnapped and taken away from her family.

From Cole.

Right from the first meeting, these two are connected and only one of them really knows why. Least he thinks he knows. And it creates nothing but bullshit for him as the story goes on. This guy keeps tellin her in backwards ways that’s there more going on but because she’s oblivious, she doesn’t catch on. He’s torn in two different directions and its murder for him.

Feelings will be what kills Cole Alexander. Feelings that after Sunday was taken he never really allowed himself to have other than one time and had gotten burned by.

These two were great as a couple. Similar but different. Both of them left with scars from the past and finding the strength to heal in each other. Or well, least with Cole, he found his light. The scenes with them were pretty damn emotional and for me to say that it’s something. Lol. Wasn’t expecting it to gut check me as much as it did.

You want them to work out but the secret Cole’s keeping and the entrance of the sick son of a bitch known as James Carter dictates that it can’t.

As far as bad guys go, this one was great. I fuckin loved that about this book. The author didn’t cut corners. She let u know the motivations behind his sick twisted shit but also how he devolved as time went on. The asshole he was in the beginning and the twisted guy he grew to be. Hated this character as much as I did the brief visual u get of Cole’s real mom. Best part of the book was the payoff I got seeing what happened to him.

Thanks MW.

When I had the chance to read this before release, I said it was her best work yet and I stand by that still. It’s not an easy thing taking two genres and throwing em together but Melyssa did it here without bogging readers down with too much bullshit. It read clean other than some errors I know she’s gonna beat the shit out of herself for later lol.

Luke was a great addition to the story. As was Jake (Reagan’s brother). Two guys with the same agenda who loved their “sister” more than life and backed it up in the book more than once. Makes me think that there can be more with both of them in their own books.

Hear me Winchester? Write Jake’s book next ;)

Can’t say much else without giving some serious shit away about this book but if you read and liked anything by MW before, you’ll dig this. It’s different but still her.

RS Fact: The way Cole is used to havin his coffee was all my influence #DrinkinMotorOil lol

This definitely a book you will remember!!! Cole's journey to Sunday is outstanding!

First off this is very different from the rest of all Melyssa's books. The suspense element was wonderful and keeps you turning pages. But she still held true to romance element which had you nestled in and swooning!

There was quite a bit of delicate topics touched on in this book and IMO, they were all handled perfectly! There was a ton of action and GET READY FOR IT.... MW went to the sexier side with this one. As a MW fan, I read, backed up, re-read and said Whattttttttt? Loved it!!! I freaking loved it!!!!

MW writes with her heart. A very passion filled author who it is quite clear puts 110% into every word she writes. I am a fan for life and recommend this book to all!!!

No Ryan review would be complete without a fav quote - "Beaten, kidnapped, almost raped and held at knifepoint and you're worried about your weight? Really?"

"She’s still the sunlight and right now, with the hunger I have for her, she’s threatening to burn me alive with her rays."

More to come...

I will say this though: it's a battle between Cole and Luke for me!
Who will win top book boyfriend material?
Guess I'll have to find out in the next book.

I received Remembering Sunday by Melyssa Winchester as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is a 4 star read. I admire an author who can step out of their comfort zone and write a different kind of book. Melyssa can keep me entertained for hours with her stories. This a romance/suspense book. It's a standalone and HEA.

This is a story about Cole, a determined man wanting to find a missing girl. The sister of his friend Luke. Sunday disappeared over 17 years ago and to be never heard off. Cole is a sweet, loving, trusting guy. He locates her rather quickly but what he did not anticipate is to fall in love with her. He's conflicted and torn . He can't decide to tell her the truth.

Sunday/Reagan is a girl who felt like she never truly belonged. She's solitary and likes to read. She had a loving upbringing. She meets Cole and falls for him despite having been deceived by her ex boyfriend. Cole is keeping something from her, she can feel it. She eventually finds out and she is devastated. All hell breaks loose. Secrets, lies and betrayal run rampant in this story with Sunday, Luke and Cole right in the middle of things. The people she trusted the most were not what they seem to be.

The idea and concept for this story was good. Although I found myself having a hard time switching back and forth from the 4 different points of views. So I constantly had to reput myself in that persons POV context. As a night reader it can be confusing.

Many unanticipated twist and turns. It's got some action and emotions run high. Surprises that I never expected. This author is on the right path to make it a good series.

I hate to give spoilers so I recommend you read this book and form your own opinions I also recommend her previous books.
