Riveting, addictive and essential for any military thriller fan. The stakes in C.W. Lemoine’s Spectre series grow ever higher as pilot-turned-fugitive unearths a plot that threatens not only his life, but national security as well. When we first catch sight of fighter pilot Cal “Spectre” Martin and his trusty animal companion, Zeus, he’s hiding out in a Louisiana cabin. FrameArchangel Fallen by CW Lemoined for an act of alleged terrorism, he’s being hunted by the FBI. When Spectre’s longtime father figure shows up at his hideout, the reunion is anything but happy. Bear breaks the news that Spectre’s best friend and mentor has been found dead. As if that news isn’t bad enough, Spectre has been charged with his murder. While forced even further into the shadows, Spectre and an ensemble cast begin exploring the activities of Charles “Ironman” Steele, a powerful military figure who reports directly to the Secretary of Defense. In Lemoine’s previous outing, Avoid. Negotiate. Kill., we learned of Ironman’s relationship with a ruthless Chinese national named Jiang Xin. Now Spectre fears that the Chinese are behind a variety of covert dealings at various levels of government. If he doesn’t do something, the consequences to national security could be far-reaching. Lemoine may have his protagonist on the run, but he still manages to fill Archangel Fallen with thrilling aerial combat scenes colored by his years of experience as fighter pilot. In one particularly breathtaking chapter, a pilot is shaken by a surface-to-air missile warning light. Thanks to Lemoine’s knack for delivering precisely the right level of mechanical detail, the pilot’s fear is both palpable and believable, leaping right off the page.
Overall, Archangel Fallen sees Spectre becoming much more than a fighter pilot with a gift for hand-to-hand combat. He’s evolving into a multi-faceted player reaching ever deeper into the political and intelligence machinations of the government. It’s a role that feels authentic, and one that cleverly sets up a cliffhanger for the next entry in the series.
If Spectre feels like everyone is against him he has a good reason to feel that way. While I did enjoy the plot and action in the book the inconsistent writing of the secondary characters was a bit of a stumbling block for me. When people act in a manner opposite to how they have been portrayed it makes it following the story tricky for me.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story as it continues to follow Cal "Spectre" Martin through the ever winding web that started with his ex, and now dead, fiance and her defection. C.W. Lemoine has yet to disappoint
These thrillers of Lemoine's are very addictive and exciting. I love how the enemies are the Communist Chinese. (Kind of cathartic after months of the CUP virus.) The characters are great, and I look forward to the next book.
“Archangel Fallen” eBook was published in 2015 and was written by C. W. Lemoine (http://www.cwlemoine.com). Mr. Lemoine has published four novels, this being the third in his ‘Spectre’ Thriller series.
I obtained a galley of this novel for review through https://www.netgalley.com. I would categorize this novel as ‘R’ as there are instances of Violence. This Thriller novel is set in the contemporary US, mostly in the the state of Louisiana. The primary characters are Michelle Decker, a young FBI agent, and Cal “Spectre” Martin, a former Black Ops operative.
Martin is on the run for authorities as he has been implicated in multiple murders. Decker is on his trail, but believes him to be innocent and has feelings for him. Martin evades law enforcement while continuing to search for who has set him up and why. Decker is kidnapped, and soon Martin is hunting for her. Not only does he see her as one of the few who believes that he is innocent, but he has developed feelings for her as well.
Before long Martin finds that he is confronting a complex and organized threat to the US. With the help of friends Martin confronts this threat head on. The more he finds out about the threat, the deeper it seems to be insinuated in the government.
It was al little hard picking up the third novel in the series, but there were adequate explanations of what had transpired in the earlier volumes. The combination of 'Rambo' and 'Top Gun' that made up Martin's character was a little hard to accept, but overall the story was not bad. This wasn’t the best Thriller that I have read, but overall I did enjoy the 6 hours with the novel. I give this novel a 3.8 (rounded up to a 4) out of 5.
Buckle Up and cinch the belts tight for C.W. Lemonie’s latest Spectre novel. Fallen Angel is an action packed page turner, you won’t want to put down. Disgraced Ex-Air Force pilot Cal ‘Spectre’ Martin seems to have a dark cloud following him around and he can’t seem to shake the negative karma.
His ex-fiancé turned out to be a traitor and now all his close friends have been killed, Spectre is a wanted man by Uncle Sam and others. With no options left, Cal decides to go off the radar with his only friend, his dog Zeus. He heads back home to seek advice from the man who raised him, since his parents were killed in a car accident when he was a teenager. He isn’t there long before the FBI catch onto his location and he must bug out. Spectre is looking to clear his name, but must do so while looking over his shoulder, since he can’t trust anyone.
While in the end, Spectre has Retribution & Revenge, he discovers there is more evil to concur. Will Spectre be up to the challenge? I’m sure that will be answered in the next installment of Spectre novels.
I truly enjoyed reading Fallen Angel. One doesn’t have to read the first two novels; C.W. does an excellent job, to bring the past into Fallen Angel without just filling the new novel with the past. It’s a great stand alone. C.W. has many scenarios going on at the same time and ties them in together in the end. I read a lot and not many novels make me say WOW!!! This one did that and more. I waited a few days to write a review, I had to come down from the adrenalin rush.
The storyline is great, what an exciting series. Cal Martin is a true American hero. He sure seems to be a magnet for bad things to happen to him, tho'. I like Michelle Decker as his love interest. Looking forward to more books in this series. Thanks, Amarillo Turtle
