He let her walk away once. He won’t make that mistake again.
She has three rules for protecting her heart, and he’s already breaking them all.
Together, they’re playing with fire, but neither wants to stop. BAS
She walked away from me at a wedding, and I haven’t stopped thinking about her since. Gemma sees straight through my charm and couldn’t care less about my family name—which is exactly why I can’t let her go. Hiring her to plan my wine society’s events guarantees she’ll be close, but she’s made the rules crystal professional boundaries only. The problem is, every moment with her makes me want to tear those boundaries down, and I’m terrified that if I push too hard, she’ll walk away for good.

GEMMA
I swore off charming, wealthy men after the last one destroyed me. Sebastian Whitmore is everything I promised myself I’d never fall for again—confident, relentless, and far too used to getting what he wants. Working with him is a mistake I made with my eyes wide open, and now I’m spending every day fighting an attraction that threatens to undo three years of carefully rebuilt walls. He makes me want things I’d convinced myself I didn’t need anymore, and that terrifies me more than anything.

Since we've married all the bachelors off in Paso Robles, it was time to find a new batch. This is the new series of the Wicked Winemakers Ball, in the Russian River Valley of Ca. The connection is Kick Avilla and his wife Izzy. Kick was the last of the Paso Bachelors. They pitch the idea to Gemma Engel, their wedding planner. She is eager to take on the challenge as this would put her name back on the map as an event planner. She only alludes that something happened in San Francisco until almost the end.
Sebastian "Bas" Whitmore finds himself slightly afloat at the family winery. He's the winemaker, but with the recent passing of his dad he has to take on the sales and a few more duties. He's realizing that some of the OGs are not wanting to do business with him, slightly because he's never attached to one woman for long.
Bas strikes a deal with Gemma, that he'll honor the contract she had with his father if she agrees to be his date for a year. What could possibly go wrong? Well, it is a romance after all...
I really enjoyed this book, as the development of their relationship was organic for the most part. Gemma tried to fight her feelings and she kept making excuses that Bas wasn't interested in her, but she didn't come from the best family. I also enjoyed how the Whitmore siblings called Bas out on some of his behaviors.
I look forward to the next book in the series. These are sweet fun and quick to read.

Heather Slade has written us such a beautifully heartbreaking romance for 2 people who need each other but have no idea how to accomplish it!

The betrayal, the backstabbing leads Gemma to a fear of never getting out from under it all.

The grief of the loss of a father well loved leaves Bas with feelings of never being as good.

Can they blend their hurt together to a love they both want or do they lose it all due to lack of communication?

Loved it!!❤️❤️❤️

Bas’ Blend is an absolute masterpiece and an unputdownable start to Heather Slade’s brand-new Wicked Winemakers - Russian River Valley series! Slade has crafted a story so rich, deeply emotional, and intensely seductive that you will be completely captivated from the very first page to the unforgettable finale.

From the moment Sebastian Whitmore and Gemma Engel cross paths again, the chemistry between them is explosive. Bas is the ultimate hero—brooding, powerful, and carrying the heavy weight of a legacy he’s desperate to redefine on his own terms. Beneath that commanding exterior lies a man who has never forgotten the one woman who publicly turned him down, and watching him use his tactical mind to get Gemma back into his life is pure perfection. He might tell the world he needs her for respectability, but the way he looks at her reveals the irresistible truth: she was always the end game.

Gemma is an absolute powerhouse of a heroine. Fierce, resilient, and brilliant at what she does, she’s fighting tooth and nail to reclaim her career after someone else's lies almost destroyed her. Her vulnerability paired with her unyielding determination makes her impossible not to root for. When forced to strike a deal with the one man who can give her everything she needs for her charity ball, she expects a strictly business arrangement. Instead, she gets swept into a world of high-society tasting events, intense glances across crowded rooms, and a connection so magnetic it threatens to consume them both.

The fake-dating arrangement in this book is executed flawlessly. The slow-burn tension between Bas and Gemma is delicious, packed with sharp banter, lingering touches, and a deep emotional pull that will have your heart racing. Add in the breathtaking, vivid backdrop of the Russian River Valley wine country, and you have a story that feels both lavishly decadent and deeply intimate.

Heather Slade knows exactly how to weave high-stakes emotion, undeniable heat, and complex, unforgettable characters. Bas' Blend is a triumph—a 5-star, swoon-worthy must-read that sets a sky-high standard for the rest of the series. If you love alpha heroes who fall hard, strong-willed heroines who stand their ground, and romance that simmers with undeniable passion, pick this up immediately!

✨️ Thanks to @heather__slade for the ARC

🔥 “I’m here because I’m choosing to be. Choosing us. Choosing you.”

🔥 “With you by my side, I can handle anything.”

🔥 “I have never in my life been prouder of anyone than I am of you.”

Gemma Engel has worked hard to become a successful event planner, but an encounter at her former employer’s event has tarnished her reputation. She is given a chance at redemption to run one of the biggest charity events of the year. However, after the sudden death of the Whitmore patriarch, Gemma must convince his successor to honor the contract he left behind. Sebastian ‘Bas’ Whitmore has big shoes to fill, and uses Gemma’s desperation to his advantage. He’ll honor the contract, but she must agree to be his date for the next year. Bas is a skilled vintner, but his public persona has caused the tight-knit wine community to question his ability to run the family business - and he hopes leaving his playboy ways behind can help change their opinion of him. Gemma is solely focused on the success of the event and never expected to fall for her boss. After their year deadline is up, she must choose between a career in the city or a future with Bas.

What an emotionally sweet read! Bas and Gemma are both dealing with their own internal struggles, yet they’re able to be openly vulnerable with each other. These two are so stubborn and refuse to ask for help but they are eagerly willing to step in to assist one another when needed. The suspense plotline was nicely woven into the story, and I appreciated the open communication between the pair which made for a seamless resolution. I love a fake dating trope and this was a cool take on it. The tension between these two was off the charts. There was a point I was audibly yelling at them to have that “f*** it”, but it was so worth it when they finally succumbed to their desires. The Whitmore clan were a fun bunch that helped relieve a lot of the emotional tension throughout the story. I adored how they welcomed Gemma with open arms and helped Bas with his grief. This is the first in this series, but it’s obvious that some characters overlap with a previous series. Still, I had no issue picking this up as a standalone.

Wicked Winemakers has moved to the Russian River Valley, and the series just keeps getting better!!

Gemma Engle is out to prove something to herself and her former employer by organizing the Wicked Winemakers Ball in the Russian River Valley. To pull this off, she has enlisted Whitmore Winery to be the main sponsor of the inaugural Ball.

Sebastian "Bas" Whitmore is having trouble settling into the leadership position at Whitmore Winery. He is the winemaker, not the one who sells and promotes the wine, that was his father. He knows he has to do better if Whitmore is to survive. Gemma comes into his life at the perfect time, and he agrees to the sponsorship only if Gemma agrees to be his date to wine functions for a year.

Bas has met his match with Gemma, who is strong-willed, no-nonsense, fierce, and loyal. Their chemistry explodes off the page. She is not looking for love but we all know that sometimes it finds us when we are least expecting.

Never in my life would I have thought that winemaking would be so entertaining to read. Starting with Butler Ranch, then Wicked Winemakers First and Second Label, and now to Russian River Valley, I cannot get enough. Heather Slade has the ability to write stories that draw you in with stories and characters you will love. Sometimes, even her secondary characters make a huge impression, like Edna Whelan, if we were all so lucky to have an Edna in our lives!!!!

Wicked Winemakers is now moving to the Russian River Valley and this series starts off superbly. Sebastian "Bas" Whitmore has charm, good looks and a healthy ego. He is poised to take over the Whitmore vineyards when his father retires but he is learning there is more to making making the vineyard successful than just wonderful wine. His dad has been the face for sales and promotion and now he must find a way to take on that work.

Gemma Engel comes to the Russian River Valley to heal from hurts, rebuild her reputation and start her own event planning business. She publicly rejects Bas at an event she coordinated but that only makes Bas more intrigued. When she has an opportunity to coordinate the first Wicked Winemaker's Ball in the Russian River Valley at the Whitemore Estate she has to put aside her attraction to Bas and concentrate on the event.

Bas proposes a fake dating proposal with Gemma that will solve their problems. He agrees to sponsor the ball if she will fake date him for a year to help repair his reputation in the valley. As these two work the vineyard together while planning a charity event, lines will be crossed and feelings will develop. Can these two build something besides a business relationship? Who knew that planning a charity event can be so intriguing and entertaining? Heather Slade does it again with a new set of entertaining characters and a book that will keep you reading from page one and looking forward to the next book.

A really good start to a new series. It was enjoyable and I did like the characters. Since this a new to me author I need time to adjust to her writing. At times I felt the situations kind of jumped very fast and I had trouble keeping it straight. But I am am ADHD adult. So I need the situations to flow.
I liked bas a lot but I am a romance reader who likes their male characters. Bas definitely did not let me down.
Gem was truly a good fit for him. She was truly her authentic self and that's what he liked. Many would say vanilla but I think she fit for his personality. She grew on me after a while but I was waiting for the big third act breakup and there was none. Thank God
There were a lot of characters in this book. Likely for the set up of the other books in the series. So I felt they had a purpose. I know sometimes readers get annoyed with lots of side characters. But their place there is to set the future books.
Overall I think this book is good for the romance lover minus the excessive drama but I am ok with that. I like to know about the characters and their back story more then the over the top drama. I will definitely be looking out for the second book. I gotta get my wine fix. Btw you will also learn a ton about the wine making process

Electrifying start to a new series!

Gemma is an event planner, one who knows all too well to keep her professional and personal life separate. But now she's been tasked with organizing the area's first Wicked Winemaker Ball (and bachelor auction) and the man who is hosting it is the biggest flirt she's ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Sebastian (Bas) has his own secrets and is reluctant at first to fulfill the contract his father signed, but he's smart enough to realize his attraction to Gemma can be useful as he faces a community that doesn't believe he can successfully follow in his father's footsteps.

This is a beautiful romance, filled with emotional integrity and charismatic intensity. It's a slow burn romance as each of them are dealing with heavy family drama that makes it difficult to invest in any new relationship. I loved the way they showed up for each other and built their future on a solid foundation of friendship and compassion.

I especially enjoyed reading about the various events they attended, especially the fabulous Wicked Winemaker's Ball. Part of me wishes the balls weren't fiction so I could actually attend one; the other part of me realizes that I'd never be able to afford to move in those lofty circles anyway so it's best to enjoy them in my books! But is it too much to ask for a movie, pretty please?

As with all this author's books, we're guaranteed a satisfying HEA and an introduction to the characters in the next book in the series. I'm already addicted and can't wait for the next one!

Bas is attracted to Gemma and asks her out at their friends wedding, she's the event planner and says no! Then his father with a friend asks her to plan and execute another winemakers event, raising money for the local hospital. Gemma is really pleased as she's trying to get her business off the ground, she left San Francisco under a cloud brought about by a nasty man. When her landlord decides to sell the house she's renting Bas suggests she uses one of the cottages on the estate.
They work together with Bas trying very hard to keep his feelings for her at bay, they are becoming difficult to hide. He hasn't felt like this before. He takes care of everyone within his sphere but no one really takes care of him until Gemma. She's very attracted to him but is hiding a secret which she's scared to tell him about in case he looks at her differently. Can they communicate better?

An emotional read from Heather, a great start to a new series.

The Wicked Wine Makers series has moved to a different region, to the Russian River Valley. Bas first meets Gemma at Kick and Izzy’s wedding; she is the wedding planner. He is used to being charming and she turns him down flat. When she shows up at his house a few days later, she has signed a contract by his father for a Wine Makers Ball, which he wants no part of. When Bas’ dad dies of a heart attack, he is left to deal with the contract his father signed. He agrees to honor the deal if she agrees to be his date for the year. This leads to him hiring her on as the event planner for the winery and eventually leasing her one of the cabins.

As the pair work together, they grow closer and even though she tries to keep him at arm’s length he manages to work his way into her bed and heart. This is an emotional read, Bas is dealing with the loss of his father and she is dealing with something else.

Bas’s Blend is book 1 in the Wicked Winemakers Russian River Valley: First Label series by Heather Slade and a great start!

Another Wicked Winemakers Ball now in Russian River Valley where it starts with the wedding of Kick and Izzy asking their wedding planner Gemma to take on planning the event securing the Whitmore estate winery, finding the next bachelors and to make a name for herself in event planning after a betrayal.

Sebastian “Bas” tries to connect with Gemma, she turns him down then a few weeks later he loses his father the Whitmore patriarch and now need Gemma’s help so he proposes a faking dating proposal to help with his taking over for his father, honor the contract his father signed for the Ball and a place to live. What happens next is both struggling with their past issues, tensions, banter, chemistry, suspense, old friends, family, dealing with grief and so much more…

I voluntarily read a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love Heather Slade's Wicked Winemakers series. I was especially excited to find that this new spinoff series takes place in a locale near and dear to my heart, the Russian River Valley. Gemma and Bas...ah the chemistry. He's known for his philandering ways...a new woman on his arm all the time. Gemma made a name for herself as an event planner and now she's one step away from living her dream. Dealing with Bas, at first, is a challenge because of her rule not to mix business with pleasure. But the man is irresistible (he feels the same about her.) They have an end date to any relationship that they become involved in other than work. But, you know that's not how it goes. You'll get to meet both of their families and close friends so there's lots of good prospects for reading in your future

Heather Slade is a one-click author for me and she never disappoints! This time, she's back in another new series and she starts out with a bang. She introduces us to the Whitmore family: Bas, Everest, Huxley, Arlow and Brylee. When a sudden death sends the family reeling, Bas takes the reins and struggles to continue the massive job of running the vineyard. He doesn't need one more headache. Then Gemma walks in and Bas learns that his father made a major commitment as the sponsor for a huge event. Can they work together or will his father's last commitment end in failure?
Bas's Blend gives the readers all the things that make for a great read: a connection to the characters, emotional attachment to the story, steamy romance, a problem that needs solving and an HEA ending leaving the readers with all the feels! Heather Slade hit the target with a perfect bullseye!

Sebastian Whitmore (Bas) met
Gemma Engel at an event where she was working as the event planner . She turned him down quickly after issues in her past . She decided never to mix business with pleasure . Shortly after his father's death he finds her at his door wanting him to agree to host the charity event she's planning that his father agreed to . Bas agrees if she will be his date for a year . Gemma agrees needing someone like Sebastian with connections to rebuild her business . As they spend time working together the attraction grows stronger than it was and their feelings intensify . This is another sensational story from the Wicked Winemakers series . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

Sebastian is using a soft form of blackmail against Gemma to get her to come back to him. He gets get to offer him s year of her life for fake dating him to events.

So we'll done im impressed. This was a new string of characters and they fit so well.

The connection between Bas and Gemma is tenuous at best due to their history when she turned him down and he hadn't forgotten. He wants her and willing to fight. That chemistry is sparking and the banter is fun and makes the book for me.

An intriguing story that pulled me in and i didn't want it to end. Can't wait for more to come!

Gemma is an event planner determined to keep her personal life separate from her work, but hosting the Wicked Winemaker Ball alongside Sebastian—the ultimate flirt—tests every single one of her boundaries. Bas has his own heavy secrets and family drama to navigate, but their off-the-charts chemistry and genuine emotional connection make this slow-burn romance impossible to put down.

I loved how they built a real foundation of friendship and showed up for each other when the stakes got high. The glittering high-society events were so vivid, and the delicious tension kept me hooked from start to finish. Bring on the next book!

Gemma is an events planner and let’s see both are attracted to each other. At a friends wedding Bas asks her out and she says no! Hiding his disappointment. When Bas’s father asks her to plan and execute another winemakers event, for the local hospital. Gemma stay yes as her business is just starting.
Lets say communication is not these twos strongest point. Gemma has a secret and believes Bas will run for the hills if she knows. Bas is not the kind of man who will let Gemma ever be hurt.
Brilliant characters, drama, angst, humour, perfect chemistry and spice.

I grabbed this book on a whim and I'm so glad that I did. It had me instantly hooked from the first few pages and kept my interest till the very end. I really liked the dynamics of this one. I also like the build-up of the plot and the budding relationship. Plus the storyline was fantastic and the characters were perfectly perfect. I felt like the relationship between the characters was natural, not forced. Loved the push and pull between them as well. It's a beautifully written romance. And an absolute must read. Thank you so much to Quirky PR and the author for a copy of this. All thoughts are my own and freely expressed.

Bas is known for helping those that are in need. Gemma is strong independent women that he wants to keep safe. The Bas and Gemma chemistry is read off the pages hot. He can't help but keep her close and she wants nothing more than to keep it professional. But when his family's estate is put into play by a man that wants nothing more than to dismantle what Bas has kept going through all that has happened. This next installment of the Wicked Winemakers is spot on and just keeps you wanting more. ENJOY!

Really enjoyed the first book in this new series. It’s about Bas a winemaker and his relationship with Gemma and how he deals with responsibilities after his father passes away suddenly. This is a standalone but we get to meet all new characters and see old ones too like, Kick. Was happy about that one. This is a slow burn but it’s got a little spicy in in too and Bas is definitely a tell you what he wants in the room type guy except for his feelings. Very sweet but sexy story, looking forward to Rands book, the epilogue was also a favorite.

A Deliciously Complicated Romance

Bad Blend had me hooked from the beginning. Heather Slade does such a great job blending romance, emotion, and the complications that make her characters feel human rather than perfect. I loved watching the chemistry build while the story kept giving me reasons to keep turning the pages. There’s just enough tension and emotional depth to make the romance feel earned instead of rushed. The characters pulled me in, and by the time I reached the end, I wasn’t ready to let them go. A fun, emotional read with exactly the kind of romance I love.

Bas' Blend is the start of the Wicked Winemakers Russian River Valley series. It's a heartwarming romance with great main characters and a good number of interesting side characters we'll no doubt see more off in the coming books. I liked both Bas and Gemma immediately and their story kept me entertained and glued to the pages from the first to the last. There are informative snippets of what goes into wine making, both sad and happy family events, spicy sexy times and finally, an emotional HEA. I'm looking forward to what's next!

I was so excited to start this as I have loved all the previous Wicked Winemakers books, so having a new spin off meant I don't have to say goodbye yet. I absolutely loved Gemma and Bas and felt for them both having people miss judge them so absolutely wanted them to show everyone how successful they can be. The blend of proving yourself to others as well as falling in love and suspense made this a perfect story to pour yourself into.
