"The Tenth Series are works of historical fiction originally inspired by the real events of the battles at Riva Ridge and Mount Belvedere. My father served with the 10th Mountain Division during that campaign. He fought in those mountains and was wounded in battle. His courage—and the courage of the men he served alongside—is something I carry with me. Writing these stories is my way of honoring not just their bravery but the human experience behind the history: the fear, the grit, the humor, the heartbreak, and the extraordinary strength of ordinary men."— Joe Looby

Everyone should read The Window by Joe Looby. It is a timely geopolitical thriller that should serve as a harbinger of what our future could look like if we ignore our vulnerabilities. The story follows Johnnie and Claire Grey, grandchildren of the late Johnnie Grey from Looby’s previous novels. Johnnie Grey is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy who uncovers a weakness in our defense system, while his twin sister Claire is simultaneously commanding a destroyer in the Western Pacific. It’s a race against time to avoid a crisis and save the lives of those at sea. The novel reads like an action movie thriller. I found myself getting lost in the action, strategy, and characters, while also realizing this was a well-developed and well-researched cautionary tale about our potential threats. This is a must-read.
