Three damaged women scarred emotionally and physically from their past. Three individual battles to Beth's friends meant everything to her. Unlike all of the others who claimed they cared, she knew differently. Betrayal and pain became her every day life but they were always there, protecting her from the evils which followed her every move. Letting them go would be so incredibly difficult, but Beth knew that despite their pleas, she had to destroy them. All Lizzie had ever wanted was to be Mummy’s little angel but the nightmares continue to haunt her, tormenting her mind and creating the all-familiar rage within the confines of her soul. Would she ever find the strength to confront the cause and lead a normal life once again? How could Elise live without her fix? Didn’t the doctor understand that the drugs hid the horrors of her past? Didn’t he realise that they made life bearable? And really, would life be worth living without them? ONE MAN Ever since he had been a young boy, he had always enjoyed an incredible ability to listen to people without ever judging them. He cared and he knew instinctively which path he should follow in life. Could Jonathan Davies, a highly experienced and compassionate psychiatrist help these women overcome the horrors of their past or would the mother of all demons destroy him too?

This is one of those books that was a slow burner to start with but got better by the end. It is quite a depressing read with what has happened to some of the characters and probably not the best choice of book for a holiday read as it is quite heavy reading but otherwise overall a decent read.
4.5* A harrowing, hard hitting story of 3 girls and their past lives of how different types of abuse has affected them in different ways. Jonathan is the young boy who “is different from all of the rest” at his school. He wants to do well but not sure to do what in life until his girlfriend with a throw- away line hits the nail on the head. Beth. Elise and Lizzie face traumas few of us can identify with, whilst some of us can never imagine that kind of treatment from those who should love and care for us. You immediately feel for these characters and what they are going through, through no fault of their own although some choices in life have been made by them. Turning to substance abuse of one kind of another brings further demons along with friends who really do care. A compassionate psychological drama that has you willing the girls to win and fight for the lives they should be allowed and enjoy to lead. Interestingly written form the 3 girls’ lives and viewpoints along with that of the abuser.
