‘He thought about that night more often than expected’
Michigan author of straight to gay stories Edward Raines continues his popular riff on love with A FAVOR BETWEEN BROS and as always, his cover art models prep the reader well! His keen eye for creating interesting characters is evident from page one: ‘The rough sin or the football fit tightly into Travis’s palms. H clutched it for a second before tossing it back to Caleb, who was waiting for it with an excited grin already playing across his lips. “Come on,” Caleb said. “Spill it already.” “There’s nothing to ‘spill,’ man,” Travis said, rolling his eyes as the Southern drawl rolled naturally off his tongue. The typically tight-lipped jock shook his head unable to keep from laughing at his buddy’s endless curiosity about his dating life…’ We can almost visualize these guys – as the fire that is to come surfaces.
Edward distills his plot well - ‘Travis knows his best friend likes guys. Caleb told him months ago, and Travis never cared. He’s straight. Caleb knows it. End of story. Then Travis gets dumped. A few pent-up weeks later, the two of them end up alone in the back row of an empty movie theater, watching a steamy scene neither of them expected. And both of them get hard. But once Caleb gets his hands on the straight quarterback he’s wanted for months, one harmless favor turns into a whole lot more—and Travis discovers that crossing the line with his best friend feels way too good to stop.’ A well written, short, solid first time MM romance!
Two Guys with an awakening for the star quarterback
Travis is a high school quarterback, destined for great things in college football. Caleb is his best friend, who has told Travis he is bi. Travis has been dating girls, easy for the quarterback, until he gets dumped and is sad.
During their last summer before college, they go to the movies at a strange theater with a low admission price, great air conditioning for the hot summer, and a darkened room when they show foreign-language movies. There's a scene that fills the screen, two men having sex, and Caleb can tell Travis is aroused.
The two young men make the most of the seats in the dark theater and experience pleasure with each other, assuring themselves this is just doing a favor between bros. But afterward, there's a sense that this is more than that, and each reaches a happy conclusion.
