this is my favorite study. The thing that stood out the most to me was how much they are just like us- keep messing up again and again- and they were God's chosen people. He gave them the covent and His promises and always fulfilled them no matter how little faith they had.

This study takes you book by book through the lives of the Patriarchs in the old testament. Beth has a wonderful way of taking their lives applicable to us by looking their faults and strengths so we too might walk closer with God. One of my favorite studies by Beth.

This was an excellent study of the old patriarchs from the Old Testament...Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It really helped me to know these men and or their families. Beth Moore does it again!!

I have done several of Beth Moore's studies over the years and I've never been disappointed in any of them. When I finished my last study and was looking for another one, I was torn because there were so many available that I wasn't sure which one I wanted to do first. I agonized over it the last weeks of the study I was doing and finally narrowed it down to a couple of studies. In the end, I decided to go with this book on the recommendation of my mom who said it was one of her favorites. I was a bit skeptical about it because most people are familiar with the patriarchal narratives and/or know the stories fairly well so to me it seemed like there wouldn't be much new or that I could relate to but I'd give it a try anyway.

I couldn't have been more wrong about what to expect in this study. Yes, it does go through the lives of each of the patriarchs but it does so in such a way that you really feel like you know these people. She breathes new life into these families until you see them not as one dimensional characters in a narrative like reading a history book but as living, breathing human beings with desires, fears, failings, and strengths. She doesn't gloss over the failures either, she's not afraid to confront head on that some of the actions that are represented are wrong and show a lack of faith or bad decision. She's not afraid to say they're acting like spoiled brats or to give them credit where it's due.

This Bible study really challenges you to see these men as men with their strengths and failings, their glorious moments of faith and fearless trust and their crushing moments of defeat and fear. It brings all new life to these stories and I was surprised that how much I had missed even though I thought I knew these stories well. She digs deep into the narrative and challenges the reader to see what is really happening and make connections across the pages of Genesis that I would have never found on my own. I would highly recommend this workbook to anyone because it meets you on so many places and challenges you.

I love Beth Moore's energy. Her personality really comes through in her writing. In addition, I like how I always learn a little something without the study becoming too deep and academic. In particular, I appreciate how she gives alternate translations of various Hebrew words that help me gain insight into the possible meanings. I also appreciate that she draws on the interpretations of others (scholars) at strategic points. She always helps to see the practical side of the stories, as well. I feel like I walk away with understanding of the past, plus implications to today.

I've studied Jacob before. I've also read The Red Tent. It was good to back up a bit and start at the beginning of the patriarchs.

We split the 10 weeks up, completing one week of study for every three weeks on the calendar. It was a commitment, but it was enjoyable and worth it, especially coupled with the video series (which we got from a local church) and some great women to study with!

This 10-week Bible study took me 6 months (I did it on my own, intermittently) and virtually every single lesson taught me something I didn't know, and drew me near to God. He indeed has given Beth Moore a gift in that way - the insights and challenges and observations never ceased to inform, enlighten and/or encourage me, and they so very often seemed to pertain to that very day's circumstances. I know that's God's work and not Moore's, but as I said - He has gifted her and used her voice to speak His voice to me through this study as well as the several others I've done by her. The patriarchs and their families have become real people to me, and applications I never would have noticed I now carry with me because of slowing down enough to read these 30-odd chapters of Genesis along with Beth Moore. Highly recommended.

Beth does not disappoint in this study, but then again she never does. This book is full of Godly lead research and many heart provoking questions that brings the bible alive in your own life. You can't do a Beth Moore study and not be changed in some way or another and often you don't know hwo they have changed your life until the study is over. I have never felt a connection to the charectors of the Old testiment to me it was just the old road you had to get through until you get to the part I am was familliar with. It's a shame I know, I don't understand the history and the people are not real to me. Now I can see the family relational ties that rocked famillies a million years ago. Mine is no different.

I've done five or six Beth Moore studies, and this one was by far my favorite. It was just fantastic. I have always related a lot with Abraham and Joseph, but I was fascinated by what I learned and relearned about all of the patriarchs (and even less obvious figures like Judah) in doing this study. Beth Moore does a wonderful job of combining verse-by-verse study with personal relevance and theological insights. This is a must-read for anyone who appreciates her studies. For those who have not done a Beth Moore study before, I can't imagine regretting devoting time to this one! It has tremendously blessed and sustained me.

This is the fourth of Beth Moore's studies that I've gone through, although it was written earlier than the others. It goes through most of the book of Genesis, through the lives of the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and through the life of Joseph and the rest of the brothers who form the 12 Tribes of Israel. The stories come to life in new ways, and she tells time-worn stories in a way that make them real and give other perspectives that make them more relate-able to today's world. It isn't the best of her studies (I would more highly recommend Daniel and James, for example), but certainly a good one.

I loved this study. What a journey! This is my favorite study I have done with Beth Moore. I have learned so much about the Patriarchs, God, and Jesus. As Beth said in the last session, God ties in he doesn't tie up. I have come to see them as human people who made errors and take them off the pedestal that I often put them on. They made a LOT of mistakes, but God used them. Just as He can use me with all my mistakes.
If you do this study, I highly recommend that you rent or buy the videos that go with it. It in adds so much to this study. I highly recommend this study! You won't regret doing it.

So amazing! I love how Moore makes the Old Testament so relevant by revealing the background and what things mean. I cannot stress enough how moved I was by this study. Maybe it's just where I am in my life, but it was almost surprising how the situations in which we find the patriarchs provide insight into my current experiences.

I. Finished. It.

It took me almost 6 years to finish.

This seems reminiscent of God finishing his works through Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob.

The study shows its age some, but it’s still interesting & relevant.

I am currently doing a group study at church on the Patriarchs and I so look forward to each class session and I see time and again through fresh eyes scriptures I've read b4 but maybe I didn't see it in this or that way, as God continues to show over and over again that HE is a God who LOVES to be in kinship with us!! God pursues us and desires to show us HIS mighty plans for our lives!! This class was in-depth we began in September of 2008 and wrapped up on Mother's Day, May 10, 2009.

I absolutely loved this study! I did this study with a group of women, and we also viewed the DVD that accompanied it. I learned so much about the Patriarchs and the lives that they had lived. It helped me to understand more deeply God's guidance in my own life as I studied verse by verse how God's hand led theirs.

This was another great Bible study by Beth Moore. It took you most of the way through Genesis and she really made the Bible come alive through the study.
This workbook is designed to be done in conjunction with the DVD and they coincided so well. This is the second Beth Moore Bible study I've done and it was just as good as the other one (Daniel). Not quite as 'heady' as Daniel and that was nice.

I have done a lot of Beth Moore studies and I liked this one but it definitely wasn't my favorite. It was more of a historical learning bible study than a personal application study. I'm not sure if she has just changed a lot in the recent years in her ability to take history and apply it personally or if that just wasn't as much the focus on this study. It was really neat to learn more deeply about the patriarchs however and to become attached to the biblical characters.

This bible study is the first I ever did of Beth Moore's large selection. She has such a gift of explaining and teaching difficult topics and making them clear. Great study for the beginning bible scholar to the advanced scholar everyone will love this one. I totally recommend you read this one with a group and watch the coordinating videos.

This was my 2nd Beth Moore study to complete, and I really enjoyed it. Of course I really enjoy the book of Genesis so this study was perfect for me. She brought out some great points and made it applicable to my daily life. I think I probably missed out on some good stuff by not having the cd's, but I enjoyed what I did have.

This is my small group's current curriculum. We're watching the DVD along with discussing each unit. It's my first Beth Moore endeavor. While I find Moore to be corny/cheesey at times, the content and message are good. Will keep you updated.

This study is one of my favorites. As always, the study was thought-provoking and applicable in my life. Beth pulls in extra information that really helped tie together the events in the book of Genesis and connect
how they relate to our lives in current times.

In The Patriarchs Moore does a wonderful job on teaching the student about Jewish history from the Old Testament. Learn how God led Abraham, Issac and Jacob and how their faithfulness helped mold our world today.
