For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, " Abba, Father !" Romans 8:15

You and I as believers in Christ have been chosen to know, believe, and understand that God is God. Heaven is His throne. Earth is His footstool. Awesome creatures never cease day or night singing, " Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty."

Lightning flashes from His throne. The winds do His bidding. The clouds are His chariot. The earth trembles at the sound of His voice. When He stands to His feet, His enemies are scattered.

And yet this very One is our Father, our Abba. He demands and deserves our respect. Without it, we are powerless.

Disclaimer: I bought this thinking it was the original "Breaking Free" and was very disappointed to discover that was not the case :( Instead, this is a devotional based on her book "Breaking Free", and my initial disappointment probably coloured my opinion of the book itself.

As devotionals go, it's pretty good though. It's probably mostly aimed at new believers, as it has a lot of easy truths; but even "old" Christians (like myself) will find some food for thought in it. Most of what she wrote I already knew, but there were a couple of gold nuggets that I would do well to remember.

Encouraging

Beth Moore is a very compassionate, encouraging author. She apparently writes from experience as a Christian that has struggled in her Christian life, known many victories, and yet is aware that it is only possible with the Lord...and so she presses on in her Christian walk and shows us how to do that, no matter how many failures or successes we have.

Worth a second read

This was really good. Even if you (foolishly) think you don't have any strongholds, you'll get a lot out of it. If I didn't have a pile of other devotionals to read, I'd just start this one over again.

What can I say? It's Beth Moore, it's theologically solid. Best of all the devotions are short & very much to the point. The topics are not lost in wordiness or pontificating.

Powerful book for those who are going through oppression and bondage (spiritually speaking). It helped expose my mindsets and some areas in my life that weren't aligned to the truth of God's word.
