I was really moved by the first book Crush in this series, so I loved getting another glimpse of Jamie and Tammy. It was good to see them so solid and happy in their marriage. But this short story had a lot of other characters mentioned, in several different states and at varying points in the timeline, so I found it a tad confusing at times trying to piece together how each and every one of these characters was ultimately connected to Jamie's (or Joe William's) past. And then we discovered so many of them had tragedies of their own involving abuse, rape and even a serial killer. It was just a bit too much for such a short story. It also felt like Jamie's search for Joe William was resolved a little too quickly, by simple phone calls to numbers he found in Lloyd's notes/investigation. If Lloyd, who was a police officer, had talked to many of these same people, why wasn't he able to find out where his own adopted son ended up? And what was with Lloyd keeping secrets from Jamie about his family? Seemed uncharacteristic for him.
Overall, it wasn't quite what I expected but I'm still glad I read it.
