Brody Cassidy. Navy SEAL. Southern boy. A guy’s guy. He likes beer and barbecue and the occasional visit to the backroom at the strip club just off base. What Brody doesn’t know is that all of that is about to be changed, and by the last woman he'd ever expected.

It all started in first grade when Cat Johnson won the essay contest at Hawthorne Elementary School and got to ride in the Chief of Police's car in the Memorial Day Parade...and the rest, as they say, is history. As an adult, Cat generally tries to stay out of police cars and is thrilled to be writing for a living. She has been published under a different name in the Young Adult genre, but released her first romance in 2006.
Today, she is a NY Times & USA Today best-selling, award-winning author of contemporary romance. A promo ho, she's sponsored real live bull riding cowboys and promoted romance using bologna.
Navy SEAL Brody has just gotten back from a 6-month deployment - and after spending some time at a strip-club with his buddies - and partaking of their merchandise - he decides to go home to Alabama, to visit his family, and enjoy some great home-cooking!
What Brody doesn't know, is that his ex Ashley - the only girl he ever loved ....
Ashley Reed. His childhood friend. His first love. His only love.
...has been working as his grandmother's nurse for a while now.
They had a bad break-up ten years ago - she wanted to be her own person and become a nurse, not only a military wife and mother. But she also didn't think she was good enough for Brody - her family had always been working for his family :(
But now that he's back - at least for a few days - why not enjoy it!?!?!!
And that's exactly what they'll do ♥
But of course there's no instant HEA with our two darlings....... Brody doesn't want something permanent - his job will take him away for months at a time - and one day probably forever... But maybe they should use this second chance? They don't come around all that often... _____________________
I loved it! I'm a HUGE SEAL fangirl! And this story was a really cute and funny and sexy and moving romance. I finished it in one night! Perfect!
In Loved by a SEAL, Brody Cassidy. Navy SEAL returns from a six month deployment to find a friend was taken out by a sniper. He felt the need to go home and see his family and find a reconnection with the familiar.
Ashley, now a nurse is Brody's ex-girlfriend from when they were teens. She is home to take care of his Grandmother and her Nana too. Reconnection with Ashley is great except he feels like he is off and when another deployment comes after only a couple of days at home, he moves back to military life.
Ashley has trouble with him leaving and the knowledge he is somewhere in the world and in danger. The emotional problems of military couples, the ability to live with a man constantly on call and often gone for months at a time into dangerous situations takes a special person. This stressful situation faced by many military families is the main problem in this novella.
We've met this hero in the other books. This time when he goes home to visit, he runs into his old secret girlfriend when he goes home to visit. It really shocks him to find her helping and looking after his grandmother exactly like her grandmother usually does. Another thing confuses him is our heroine didn't want him when they were growing up, but could he get her to want him now? After all this time he still loves her and is afraid to have his heart broken again.
Our heroine had always loved our hero, but when he asked her to go away with him, she couldn't become between him and his family which is what she feared would happen because the employers or their families didn't date the help which is where her family was.
Can they work threw their differences or will this be a repeat of what happened in the past?
The plot was original sounding, but the way it was written, made it seem new again. The characters were likable although they did have me thinking of times of the 1950s and 1960s. It was great to get to know more of the family background due to us knowing about the hero's brother in a previous book.
I have a read a few of the Seal books. You don't need to read the series in order.
Brody goes back home to Alabama on leave to visit his family and ends up running into his first love, Ashley. You find out that dated before Brody joined the Navy. Ashley didn't want to be a military wife if it meant that she had to give up her dreams of becoming a nurse.
There are some old issues that they need to work out. Ashley isn't happy that Brody is suddenly called away in the middle of his leave. She doesn't understand that Brody doesn't always have control over when he sent away. She is a little needy at times. Brody said he would try to call her. She's annoyed that she hasn't heard from him in three days. Fortunately, her Nana reminds her what Brody's job entails.
Brody and Ashley have a history that dates back ten yrs. She is the grand daughter of the hired help and he was the boy she fell in love with. Timing and careers(his the Navy, her becoming a nurse)tore them apart once, did they have a second chance ahead of them? Brody still has a contract with the Navy, he is an elite SEAL with DEVGRU, still unable to tell her anything about his missions or where he goes for months on end. Does Ashley have it in her to be a supportive person in his life, without asking the questions she knows he can’t answer? This was a beautifully written story with just enough steam to keep you dreaming! This series gets better with every book! Don’t miss out on a single read, seriously!
Brody is back after 6 months. He just found out that one of his buddies is gone. He decides it's time to go home and see family. Ashley went to school to be a nurse so now she is helping her grandmother who broke her wrist and a day nurse to the woman her grandmother had worked for. Ashley can't believe Brody is here. He was her first love and she still loves him but back then she couldn't follow him and lost him. Brody can't believe he is seeing Ashley again. She is the only woman he ever loved. They spend as much time together before he gets called back in. Brody got called back. Ashley doesn't know what to think. Will he come back? Will they be together again?
They were sweethearts in high school. Brody wanted her to marry him and follow him. Ashley broke two hearts that day. She couldn't see how she could follow him and still get her RN degree. Ten years later he finds her at his grandmothers home. They both realized they hadn't forgotten their early love. He gets called back early. Again his career was causing problems. Can they find their way back again. A very good story that was easy to read
Enjoyed the storyline. The characters were great. Drew me into the story. I love second chances, military, strong women and strong men! This had it all. This book has been out for over 4 years, so I'm late in reading this series, but I'm in hopes that there's a continuing story with Brody and Ashley!
I’m so happy that I discovered this series by Cat Johnson. The series is a few years old so I don’t have to wait for the next book. Every book is better than the one before. The author is a gifted writer who brings her characters together seamlessly. I love her storylines!
I really like this series. The characters are realistic and the way they interact with each other as friends and teammates makes it an interesting read. I do think it would be a better read if read in order but it isn't strictly necessary.
Timing is everything and not always an easy thing. Loving someone for years and trying to put it out of your mind is not an easy thing to do. This book dealt with both sides.
A second chance at love! Brody and Ashley had their obstacles to tackle on their way to their HEA. Learning to put the past in the past was their first step. I loved that they were able to except each other for who they were now. Good story!
I really loved this book. Brody and Ashley are great together. I highly recommend this series to anyone that likes a good romance. I would read this again. Cindy Bowers
I’m enjoying this series, just a pity when the couple finally get their shit together the story ends. Tho they do pop up in the next book, so we know they’re still traveling along.
Navy SEAL in a second chance romance? Let me at it!
I adore Cat Johnson's Hot SEALs series, so when I get the chance to read another one, there is usually a little happy dance involved.
Brody's story is one I have been keen to know about since the series began, and I was not disappointed at all!
Back from deployment, family is on his mind. Family and the one that got away. That, and booze and women!
Who ever really forgets their first love? Brody never forgot Ashley - and she never forgot him.
When their worlds collide again after a decade, I just knew that the sparks were going to fly. Their lives are so different from what they were back then, but their hearts ... sigh.
Oh how I love them together. Even though they are no longer the teenagers they were when they first met, I loved the giddy feelings, the butterflies they both got.
And loved that we get more of the GAPS guys - those guys are a lot of fun! We also see the darker, more emotional side of being in the military, and I feel that Ms Johnson touched on those subjects well.
I can't wait to see what Ms Johnson brings us next with these guys
Great great book staring Brody Cassidy and Ashley Reed.
Brody is Chris's brother whom we met in several of the books so far. Brody is over 10 years younger than Chris but they share an apartment, whenBrody is not on missions, and of course when Chris is not over at Darci's house....with the headboard hitting the wall (lol).
Brody has started feeling lonely and not complete, but he is not going to have a meaningful relationship because he never knows if he is coming back from a mission. ALSO, he was in love before he joined the military with a girl back in Alabama, Ashley. They grew up together and she was his first and he hers. But, when he asked her to leave everything and move with him, she said no. She had hopes and dreams too. She wanted to go to college and become a nurse. She became a nurse in a hospital 2 hours away from where they all grew up.
Now 10 years later, we learn that both have never stopped thinking of each other. Ashley resigned from the hospital and moved back home because he Nana, who raised her, broke her wrist. About that time, Brody’s Grandmother became ill and needed a nurse, so for the last 3 months, Ashley has been caring for her too. When Brody comes home he finds Ashley and the passion was still there for both of them. This could not work for them. She lived in Alabama and he in Virginia and he was gone a lot on missions, right? After two great days of passion and hot passion, Brody is called back to his unit and he leaves. He doesn’t call Ashley right away and she is hurt. Finally he gets one call in and he says that he loves her. But, she doesn’t hear from him again and weeks have gone by. Is he okay, hurt, dead? Ashley is a mess.
This book could easily be a 5+ but the romance is "sweet" not HOT HOT HOT. But, I do like Ms. Johnson writing style, just saying.
We find out that Rick Mann(book 5) has resigned from GAPS and doing something else. You have to read to find out!!
The story of SEALs falling in love continues with Brody’s story in Loved by a SEAL. Brody, younger brother of retired SEAL Chris Cassidy, is still on active duty and has been deployed for the past six months. When he returns stateside to find no one around, he realizes how much he’s missing, leaving him disconnected and out of sorts. Deciding to get some R & R, he heads home for a short break, where he runs into the one woman whom he ever loved, and who broke his heart ten years ago.
Ashley Reed refused to give up her future as a nurse to follow her teenage love when he left for the Navy. Now she finds herself back in her hometown, helping her grandmother and the Cassidy family. When Brody walks in through the door and into her life again, she cannot deny the feelings she still has for him.
Loved by a SEAL is another slice of life in the Hot SEALs universe. Like several of the previous stories, the book shares a budding romance between a man with a high-risk job and the woman who steals his heart, without taking the reader all the way to an HEA (happily ever after). If you are good knowing that the stories have HFN (happy for now) type endings, then this series is definitely worth the read.
Brody and Ashley have a history, making their quick romance seem very realistic. The author perfectly captures those unrequited, long-lingering feelings left over from when Ashley walked out on Brody ten years prior, causing this reader to swoon just a bit. Their story is more about love and passion, rather than hot, steamy sex, which suits the story just fine. I was left with the feeling that this couple could actually make it work, and that made me happy.
Overall, I really enjoy these wonderful little novellas for what they bring to the table: a bit of danger and action, a bit of love and romance. Sitting back, relaxing with a cup of tea and my Kindle, Loved by a SEAL made for a wonderful morning read.
Brody was the playboy of the group, Zane was a player, but Brody has more finesse and was way more sweet! Maybe his Southern charm, who knows?
We are a few months ahead from where we left off, and Brody is just back, but Chris is away. He goes home to visit his parents and runs into his first, well, in his words, everything. The girl he left behind, who turned him down a decade ago when they were barely adults
One look, one touch, one kiss and the years slip away. These new adult versions might have the skills to make things work this time, but, they still have to figure that out
I really liked the switch from Brody to Ashley in the story-telling. The gaps in time to fast forward were seamless and fit, you didn't feel like you were missing anything. A sweet reunion love story, mixed in with some action, and some bro love as well!
I loved finally getting Brody's story. I wish there had been a bit more of his and Ashley's relationship now, or at least an equal amount of the military part. I don't want any of the military part to change, because I think Cat Johnson gives us some of the most realistic up to date military type situations going on right now in real life. I still would have liked more of Brody & Ashley's relationship than the three days and a couple of phone calls. I hope they show up more in the future in some of the other books so we can see how they are doing. Looking forward to Mack's story next.
Brody and Ashley have such a sweet love story. They were high school sweethearts, when Brody asked her to marry him after graduation. She turned him down and he hated her for years. He made his way to be a SEAL and lived a unattached and never settling down life. Then he came home and found Ashley as his Grandmother's nurse and all these feeling came up and he couldn't believe she was more beautiful now than his memory. Can they overcome their past and have a future? This is a great series, the characters are awesome and engaging. It makes for a fun read and some very passionate scenes. This was a great read.
This just ended too quickly. It was great catching up with these guys again, but it really did need to be a longer story, it would have been nice to have more detail about there future or their past, I didn't feel like we knew as much about Ashley as we do the other girlfriends. Definitely looking forward to the next instalment.
I love the Hot SEALs series from Cat Johnson. Theses stories are wonderful short reads of big alpha SEALs and the women they fall for. Loved by a SEAL is no different only this time the SEAL is in love but turned down. Finding a way back can be different for both.
I've read this entire series and all were good. I just wish there were more hot and heavy scenes that I've gotten used to, lol. I can't wait until the next 2 books come out to get Rocky and Jack's story.
