Half of the population of their school thinks that Lena is a dud and the other half thinks she's a witch. Since Lena was a kid she can see guardian angels. She can even talk to them. But when some guardian angels went missing, she was blamed.
This book is kind of hard for me to review. So, I'm gonna divide this review for the positive things that I love about this book and the negative side of course. Here we goooo.
NEGATIVE THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
1. TITLE THAT DOESN'T EVEN MATCH THE STORY. A Bit Witchy? Game on! I'm gonna read this one. At first the book was interesting but later on it bored me. I was expecting for some witches in the plot? But it didn't have one. The book was all about Guardian Angels so why is it titled A Bit Witchy? Maybe because Lena ( the protagonist ) is called a witch by her classmates? But that doesn't make any sense. This book should have a title that is somewhat connected to guardian angels.
2. TOO MANY CHARACTERS The book contains too much characters that makes it a bit confusing. While reading this one I need to write down the characters or highlight it. Some books need more characters but this one doesn't need that much. Some characters were not that important.
3. DIDN'T MEET MY EXPECTATIONS Guardian Angels? Cool! S of course, I expected some kick-ass fights or kick-ass characters but meh it wasn't that kick-ass. Action? MEHEHEHE. There's a part in here were guardian angels almost made a war and when the good guardian angels fight a thunder appears but it didn't last long and it didn't excite me or cheer for them like: " GO KILL THEM!"
4. THE PLOT WAS KINDA CONFUSING The fates, good or bad guardian angels, their past life, what they do, how they guide the mortals that are assigned to them were explained but there were still some questions that are unanswered. The plot tackled a lot of things about guardian angels.
5. THE FIRST HALF OF THE BOOK BORED ME Most of the guardian angels stuff were explained with the first half and it was too many and complicated so I was reading the paragraphs again and again.
POSITIVE THOUGHTS / REVIEW:
1. STUNNING COVER Every bookworms weakness is the book cover. If we see a beautiful we will buy it or request for it to review and that's what I did. Can you see? It's so coo! It's like some cool things will happen with the plot. With that eyes that are staring at you and saying like: "Read me! I'm a good book!"
2. UNIQUE IDEA I haven't read any books with guardian angels and I gotta say it's pretty awesome. A girl who could see guardian angels? YES PLEASE.
3. STORM BOYS Rain, Aspen, Hunter and Glenn were funny characters. But they are the kind of boys who make pervert comments. They made a great role with the plot. They helped with the guardian angels things. The Storm boys were the reason why I did not DNF this one.
4. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT Thank god, Lena has a character development. For me she's dumb, stupid and annoying at times. Sorry not sorry. The part where her bra broke and she did some things to stay it in place, but when she arrived at her car her bra was missing. She searched for it and saw that Glenn was holding her bra and I was like"WTF?" For some readers Lena is a funny character but for me she isn't. When she jokes about something, it didn't make me laugh.
Overall, I gave this novel a rating of 2.7 out of 5. In Goodreads stars that would be 3/5 (rounding up).
First of all, I have to say that this book has a gorgeous cover. Usually, I don't like covers with people on it, but this one is the exception.
Reading the title, one might think this book is about witches. Luckily, I wasn't completely surprised when it ended up being about Guardian Angels, since it says so in the blurb. Therefore, I expected to read about Guardian Angles and witches. That wasn't the case. since the book is only about Guardian Angles. It is not a bad thing, just a little bit misleading, since the only connection between the book's title and the story, is the fact that Lena (the main character) was called a witch by her school peers. This situation doesn't affect my rating, since I don't think a misleading title/blurb leads to a bad book.
Anyway, now to the actual review.
Plot
Aka what happens.
The novel's plot is underdeveloped, since nothing really happens. Or at least nothing that required a whole book. The main character doesn't go through any kind of real challenges. All the new information that she learns was told to her by different characters. In other words, there is a lot of info-dumping and padding which causes the plot to be hard to follow. The plot does not flow, and I had to stop many times to ask myself what just happened, or what does that mean.
Also, the ideas are all over the place. In one scene is discussed one thing, than the next scene is about something completely different. Thus, the story is very confusing, and there are many unanswered questions. It also doesn't help the fact that Lena is very fickle. Now she trusts Baline, next she trusts Traistan, later on someone else, and so on.
The protagonist doesn't do much. I don't see throwing tantrum, worrying about a boy or wining about double chins as plot. It is mentioned that Lena had at least one past life. For some reason, she is very affected by what others told her happened to her past self. She has no memories of her past life, so I don't really understand why she's so upset by what happened. Lena knows only what other people told her, nothing more.
As I mentioned, the novel doesn't have a strong plot; it is almost non-existent.
2/5
Narrative
Caro Clarke: "Narrative is what the reader sees and hears of what happens – and how he sees and hears it." ( Also, since we're in Lena's head, she cannot she herself. She doesn't know how she look when she's going up the stairs, or what kind of look she gave to a boy. Unless, of course, she's looking in a mirror all the time.
Lena seemed to know a lot more than she bothered to tell the reader. Reading the novel I had the impression that some part of it are missing. Her constant rambling and thoughts about her boobs, her double chin, her obsession with Gain are also not very helpful in moving on the plot.
In general, I wasn't a big fan of the narrative. It felt flat, and at times forced.
2/5
Characters
There are many characters in this book. One can say they're too many. In general, I can keep up with a lot of characters if they are relevant to the plot. Which in this case, they aren't.
Most minor characters, such as Tristan or Blaine, appear only when Lena needs to learn something, and then puff - they leave the novel until Lena needs them again. Some, like Reese, are only there to add a little bit of drama.
Main Character: Lena
Since she has a foul mouth, throws her hands up in the air when she's angry, and she throws tantrum, one can say she is a strong female lead; a girl who stands up for herself. Or not. Standing up for yourself is not the same thing as running your mouth without thinking.
Based on the way Lena described herself, the reader has the impression that she's not very pretty: bulgy eyes, hair in 4 directions (why? can't she just use some hair products?), double chins, rolls on her stomach etc. Also, since Lena recognized that she gain weight because she was very inactive, I don't understand why she moans instead of doing something about it. Besides, since many guys hit on her, I don't think she's that ugly - she's secretly pretty.
In a way Lena seemed naive. She hated Tristan, but when he told her something about Blaine, Lena believed him right away. Same thing with the Storms family.
Lena had some funny moments, but overall she wasn't a great protagonist.
Love Interest: Glenn.
Flat, static character. Nothing changed with him; he stayed the same throughout the whole novel.
I also find him to be an ass, and not a very nice guy. Glenn and his family were entertaining, but the friendship between them and Lena seemed to come out of nowhere.
3/5
Romance
So Glenn ignores Lena for years, than he claims he always loved her. Lena is obsessed with Glenn since middle school, but she never try to talk with him. I don't know. I might believe they started to fall in love after they started spending some time together. But I don't think they really liked each other for years. Lena had a crush on him, that kinda developed into an obsession - all he had to do is smile and she would've fall to his feet.
The romance is not terrible. There is no love triangle, which is a plus. Glenn and Lena didn't just met and they run away to get married, which is another plus - they saw each other in school, heard about each other, but didn't actually know one another.
The romance is cute and fluffy. Lena's reactions were a little bit annoying, especially since she was so insecure, but overall it was decent.
3/5
World Building
The story is set in the 21st century, urban setting. In a way is a mixed of paranormal with contemporary.
The angle thingy was underdeveloped, especially since there were so many ideas mushed up together: God and the Scripture + other Gods + Fates + God's Angles + Fate's Angles + Chakras + Energy + human guards + .... Usually, this kind of mix up doesn't go well in the real world, and it didn't work well in this novel either. I think it would've been better if the author chose one or two reasons for the whole Angle thingy and developed it/them. Instead, we got ideas all over the place.
Now, there were some explanations, and the concept is quite interesting. However, it was underdeveloped.
2.5/5
Reader's Experience
Did I have some fun reading this novel? Yes. Was it entertaining? sometimes. Did it had interesting ideas? Yes. However, as I mentioned, the plot moved very slow, and it was hard to understand what the book was really about.

General Thoughts
I don't think this novel was for me. It wasn't terrible, but I cannot say I loved it. This does not mean other people will not love it; if you like the blurb, give it a try and form your own opinion.
I think the novel is suitable for people who like young adult, paranormal - Angles- some romance, and high school drama.
I liked Lena. Her snark and awkward moments really made the book. Some of the segues didn't really make a lot of sense and the interactions between the characters felt incomplete at times. This made it a bit confusing at times which is why I only gave it 4 stars. I liked the mythology. It was different and not what I was expecting. I don't think the title was misleading. Lena can do something that normal people usually can't do. In many cases unusual abilities is often mistaken for witchcraft. Especially among groups of people like at her school.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received an eARC via Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. I made no guarantee of a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are my own.
I felt a bit mislead by the title of this book but in all honesty I have no one to blame but myself as I didn't read the synopsis however, this book about guardian angels was an enjoyable read.
Lena is the school loner and her peers have labeled her a witch which she isn't but she is indeed very special as she can see guardian angels. I love how the author wrote the Lena character; a bit of a foul mouthed teen with just the right amount of spunk. The story line moved quickly and it is humorously written. I look forward to seeing these characters once again.
My two personal favorite quotes:
" I cannot think of anyone I'd rather breathe with."
" You can only see the moral scars when there's a good guardian angel to show you. For whatever reason shmuck here doesn't have one of those."
As anyone who often reads this blog can attest, I am not picky about what I will read and review. I've dabbled in nearly every genre and have found something to enjoy about each. In addition to that one of my absolute favorite finds come from a debut author. I love reading from a brand new author. In fact, I've been following many of my favorite authors since they themselves were debut-ers. It's a thrilling and exciting time in a young authors life to have your works read and reviewed for the very first time. Each time I read from a debut author though, there's that nagging voice in my head telling me to be careful and tread lightly. I didn't know what to expect going into this read, much like others from debut authors, but i can definitely tell you one thing, Danielle Fisher is one author to watch!
In true One Guy's Guide to Good Reads fashion, I'll go ahead and get my negative thoughts out of the way first.
First, I found the title for this one to be a bit misleading. I love witches. Witchcraft is among my favorite paranormal trope. Regardless of the title bearing 'Witchy', this novel does not feature witchcraft. Sure Lena was 'bewitching', but she certainly was not a witch, to my disappointment. Now that being said, the novel was still full of paranormal goodness, which I'll get to later.
Secondly, I won't lie to you guys, the plot for this one wasn't the easiest to follow. It took me far longer to read this novel than it should have because I found myself having to re-read several passages to understand what was happening. It eventually turned into one of those situations where I stopped asking questions and plowed through in an effort to eventually have Fisher answer all my questions in the end. Unfortunately not all of them were answered and I was still left rather confused about many things within the plot and the world Fisher created, but the main overall plot was finished and close off by the end. While the plot may have been a bit off, this may have been something that I personally found fault with and may not be the opinion of other readers. I think this may have something to do with my third fault.
Finally, I found this short novel to have a cast that was entirely too large. There were more characters and names floating around in this 200 page story that I often see in an entire series. It was a struggle placing names with faces and remembering who was who, especially when some characters were seen for only the briefest of times. Now each character was well written and I think Fisher did a great job laying out the specifics and backstory, but in the final pages I found myself asking 'is this person important? Why were they here?'
Okay enough of the negatives. You guys are going to think I didn't care for this one at all, which is totally untrue.
While I did mention I had a hard time deciphering the plot, in the end I still found it to be overall enjoyable and worth the read. It wasn't so much that I didn't understand 'what' was happening, it was more 'why' is this happening (does that make sense?). It's not uncommon to see this in the first novel of a series that will later answer some of these questions, but as of now I am unaware if this is a standalone or if there are more novels on the horizon following Lena and her adventures.
Can I also very quickly mention how much I love the cover to this novel? Seriously! How eye catching! I cannot wait to get my hands on this one!
My favorite part of this novel was the writing style. Danielle Fisher has one of the most unique styles that I have seen. She writes with massive amounts of emotions intertwined with the perfect moments of humor to give her stories the greatest impact. Each chapter packed a powerful punch. On more than one occasion I found myself laughing aloud, rather embarrassingly. Thankfully I read this one while I was alone, otherwise I'd have gotten some crazy looks. Honestly though, this did not read like the work of a debut author. The writing style and elegantly crafted words read as those of a seasoned professional, proving there are huge things on the horizon for Fisher and her career. While this one may have been a YA Paranormal, I would absolutely love to see Fisher use that same elegance and humor to craft a YA Contemporary novel, I believe she'd be the perfect fit for that genre!
I am a huge paranormal reader and while I thought I'd seen it all, nobody has brought out the uniqueness that Fisher has when it comes to guardians and fate. Fisher took the lore and completely twisted it on its' head, creating a unique and original spin on the trope. With a well-developed backstory and all the perfect flashbacks to keep the reader in the know, Fisher lured me into a world that I was more than impressed with.
Another high point for A Bit Witchy was the setting. Fisher did an incredible job with the settings in the novel. I could clearly imagine each locale, complete with the perfect word choices for setting the tone in each. I found myself completely immersed in Lena's world as though I were standing right at her side watching the drama unfold. It's a testament to the talent of Fisher and her word choices that readers have this type of reading experience.
As you can clearly see, I have quite a few thoughts on this debut novel from Danielle Fisher. While I found several faults with the novel, I still found it to be an incredible debut effort from Fisher and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. Fisher's quick wit and beautifully crafted words will keep this reader coming back for more. With all this being said, I am granting A Bit Witchy a well earned 3.5-star review. A recommended read for all fans of Young Adult Paranormal novels! Add this one to your TBR today!
I loved this book, not only did the beautiful cover pull me in, the idea that someone with as much bad luck as Lena being the main character was intriguing. It felt like I went through an amazing adventure with Lena and all the things that started happening to her once she turned 18. Since the whole fad about angels died off years ago, and it's all about dystopias and stuff now, I was curious how this book was going to turn out, and totally loved that it wasn't cheesy and overly dramatic. There were elements of action and mystery around but that only made the story more intriguing.
It totally had me guessing on so many things, what exactly was Lena and Cathadral, what was going on with all the missing guardian angels, why Lena could see them, the whole situation with her crush Glenn, and basically about the evil plans the evil guys, the Fates, had in store for Lena. Oh and just so you know, there's nothing about witches in the story, it's about guardian angels. Lena has been able to see them since she was little, and because of that she's special. In her past life she used to be Cathadral, a guard who instead of keeping the guardians in check, used to "kill" guardian angels, and was nicknamed the guardian slayer, but in this life, she's not like that. After the truth comes out to her, she gets to have more questions than answers and tries to figure out who exactly are the bad guys and who are the good guys. It had me questioning everybody too. Just as I was thinking that someone, like Tristen, or Blaine, or Richard, could be trusted, some info would pop and suddenly they were the bad guys! It could have been annoying but after learning more about Lena's past as Cathadral and the stuff with the guardians, it was fun trying to figure what was going to happen next.
My favorite parts were when I found myself laughing at the hilarious parts. I liked that Lena had a sarcastic wit about her and could usually be quick with a comeback, and the fact that she almost made a joke about anything, mostly the things that went wrong for her. I liked that she was different, in the fact that even she admitted that she had love handles and actually had some meat on her, and despite all that, Glenn still was attracted to her as a person, and it was sweet whenever they were together, making jokes or actually talking about their feelings. I also couldn't get enough of the Storm family. They were all eccentric and each one was hilarious to read about. The Storm family boys' have a reputation that if you enter their house a virgin, you will leave the house without your virginity. Basically they were all hot and funny and awesome. Rain, Aspen, Hunter and Glenn and flirted with Lena, even if they were really interested or just because that's how crazy they are, but at least they accepted the fact that Glenn and Lena were a thing. It was definitely nice to see them help Lena with the whole Cathadral/ guardian angels thing, too.
I loved it and I can't wait for the sequel to see more of Glenn and Lena, and of course see Lena kick some but against the Fates with the help of the Storm family.
The Writing: I liked the writing. It was clear and made the book easy and fast paced. We read all from Lena's POV.
The Story: Okay so, I didn't remember the synopsis but I was like ' A Bit Witchy. Witches, okay, got it ' ha ha ha I was totally wrong. I don't know why I supposed that. And as you might understood I started the book knowing anything ( I tend to do this because I enjoy books a lot more, the surprise plot is a plus). This is a book that has a mix of angels, kind of bad angels, a crazy family with awesome boys, love and lot of humor. I laughed many times with this book and that was really really great. I feel/know in this book we don't get to see what the characters are capable of and I really really want to see that. This is the beginning of a story, we should see how this continues. I loved the romance in here. This hasn't any love triangle, you don't have that pressure. The romance is refreshing, for me at least it was. It was fun and sweet to read. Just teenagers in love, and I'm a teenager and I love to read this. This has many twist and unexpected surprises. Other plus this book had was that I was always wondering 'Okay she can trust him/her, she/he is with the 'good guys' and a few lines later I was thinking ' No, she can't trust him/her, she/he is with the bad guys' and this happened lots of times and with many characters. And I loved it, it all felt so unsure and you were all the time thinking about it and wanted answers so, you keep reading.
The Characters: Lena: She has some character development through this book but I'm sure she has more to give, do and demostrate. I like her humor and how she is Lena and doesn't pretends anything. Glenn: Such a sweetheart. I loved him. Funny and protective. The Storm Family (Glenn's family): I loved them. They were soo funny and all the boys are just perfect. A great book family. Bacca, Tristan, Semper, Richard: All these characters were part of the story. I think they will be a great support for Lena in the future and that's why I'm writing about them.
A story full of humor, angels, and romance kind of from-one-life-to-another-destined but refreshing at the same time, some questions we don't have an aswer yet and futures badass characters.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
So I enjoyed the lead character, Lena, in the beginning for a few reasons; one of them being she wasn't described as being an impossibly perfect girl. In fact, she's full figured, dirty minded and incredibly clumsy. I enjoyed her self-deprecating way of speaking and thinking.
On the other hand, the men in this book are all overtly horny at all times. They all sound like fuckboys. It was funny the first few pages but after a while, it became trite and annoying very quickly. The constant objectification of women and Lena's somewhat begrudging acceptance of it I honestly didn't dig.
The lore of this book is hella disjointed. Since it's the first book in the series, it should have a lot more background information that is explained clearly. The entire guardian angel premise was confusing and was not fleshed out enough. So there's a god who assigns angels but also reincarnation is a thing but none of this is ever explained. And where did the Fates come from, are they similar to the ones in Greek mythology? In addition to this, the story didn't flow well. The author introduces characters and then they disappear and you never hear from them again. What happened to them? The battle scene towards the end was an incoherent shit show. I had no idea what the hell was happening. The conversations throughout the book are terrible, often times cringe worthy.
I feel like this book has potential due to its interesting concept but at best this reads like an incomplete first draft. Also, I think the book needs a different title, there is nothing witchy about this book; the title is misleading.
** We received a copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**
There was a cool twist when it came to guardian angels. Though Lena is special, she's not a witch, but is perceived to be by her peers. That aside, the world that unfolds is unlike anything I've read so far.
The story opens with the clumsy, witty main character who is funny, hilariously embarrassing and adorable. Lena is a bit of a loner, but that could be because she can see guardian angels following the majority of her classmates. She can even talk to them, which would look odd if anyone caught her.
The pacing didn't let up and the more I learned about Lena's possible destiny, the more ensnared I became by the story. It seems whenever the story gives Lena a little bit of happiness, something else will swoop in and threaten to take it all away.
When she's welcomed into the Storm's family it was a bit disturbing how much sexual harassment was thrown around, but Lena didn't seem to mind or at least she kept quiet when catching the 100th glance at her chest. Despite their odd social habits, the group is protective of Lena and she gains an acceptance she didn't have before. I really enjoyed the build up leading to the end and the quick-witted characters.
CONCLUSION
The twists and turns that Lena had to face were a lot of fun to read about. I really felt she was a well developed character and I couldn't help but like her, especially the snark.
One of the first things that bothered me about this novel is that the title was kind of misleading; Yes Lena’s peers saw her as a “witch” due to her unnatural abilities, but I think that was also my own fault for not reading the whole synopsis to be honest. I know that you’re not supposed to judge a book by a cover, but in this instance I feel justified in choosing to review this book after only looking at its beautiful cover. I love that Lena’s go to defense mechanism is sarcasm/snark, the one-liners between her, Glenn, and Tristen is one of the best parts of the book. I like the author’s unique take on guardian angels and the devils on your shoulder, the idea that guardian angels need guards was a new concept that I really enjoyed. Although I enjoyed the plot and the storyline, I do think that there were too many characters to keep up with, Glenn’s whole family and all of the guardian angels good and bad were kind of hard to keep up with at times. Overall I loved A Bit Witchy, the witty sarcasm really resonated with me on a personal level. I give this book a four out of five hearts! I recommend this book for a read if you’re currently searching for something in the Young adult/paranormal genre.
At first I did know how I was going to feel about this book, the cover was fantastic, but the title to me was a little bit misleading. Although, the story line was interesting, I thought for a minute this book would be about witches. I also have to say I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed this book.
To start off the characters were interesting, I like that there was more to each character than meets the eye. The reader may think one thing about them while they are a completely different type of person. It was fun seeing Lena interacting with some of the guardian angels too, Richard was great!
At times, it did feel like something was missing, not sure if it was the way the story started or what. Towards the middle I felt like things were coming along better and I wasn’t as confused as I had been in the beginning. It was also unlike any book I have read, so it was nice to read a story with out knowing how it was going to end. I am also not ready to say good-bye to these characters! I hope I will be able to meet them again.
This was a great read and I would recommend it for readers you enjoy reading paranormal books.
I absolutely loved this story, I have to admit I was attracted to it initially by the beautiful cover and then the title called to me like a siren song. I am a total lover of all things paranormal and this book is no exception, but it is exceptional. The story is so different and unique and kept me guessing. From the very beginning, I was lost to the real world, I fell right into Lena's story, and lived it right alongside her thanks to the awesome writing of the author, she is so descriptive and imaginative, and witty. This book had me anxious, then laughing, fearing for Lena, then for Glenn, and I love the way that the book ended. I love the Storm family almost as much as I love Lena and if you haven't read this book yet, do so! Now! Seriously! Go! :) I definitely recommend this read, if you couldn't already tell, and I can't wait to read more from this very talented author, and I hope to see more of Lena and the gang. Kudos to you Danielle, I will be watching you. (Not in a creepy stalker way :) I was thankfully very generously provided a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review by the group We love YA books. This book is about an awkward girl, who is able to see some supernatural things. She is accussed of being a witch, and doesn't really speak with anyone. The positive things in this book are many, like the suspense, the uniqueness of the way everyone seemed to change sides so it was more difficult who was against or with Lena, hot boys, weird and awesome people. The negative things I found were that sometimes things were TOO confusing. I like books which keep me guessing, but not this much. There were some parts when I thought the 'heroine' was plain stupid, and fickle, Overall, it was a light and quick read, with many twists and turns.
I was given an ARC of this in exchange for an honest review and i gave it 4 stars because although i really liked this story but it fell a little short for me.
First of all, how pretty is that cover? This was one of the biggest pulls for me as i am one of those people who judges a book by the cover and i wasn't disappointed with this one.
Second of all i loved the laugh out loud moments in this book and there were quite a few. It was so witty and clever that it kept me wanting to read on.
The story was well thought out and so unique and full of intrigue and magic that it kept me guessing and wanting to find out what happened next The title as mentioned before is a little bit misleading to begin with but once you get into the story, it starts to make a bit more sense.
My only issue was that Lena's constant issues with herself bordered on annoying sometimes but other than that i found it a rather enjoyable read and would love to read more from this author.
I won this book in a giveaway and I gotta say I'm so glad I entered for it. I usually fall for pretty covers and end up disappointed but I actually really liked this book. I was laughing my cute little butt off almost the whole way through. You know. Except at the sad parts. I loved Lena. I love when characters are like me in some ways. It makes me feel not so weird. Then it makes me feel weird comparing myself to fictional characters. But that's not the point. The point is this book was a really fun read for me. I couldn't really get into what I like about it without giving stuff away and I don't wanna spoil the awesomeness. If you're still reading this review BUY THE BOOK. DO IT. You'll thank me. I swear.
What a great book! I too thought it might be about witches and was very pleased with the track the story took instead. Being a mom of 4 boys, I don't have as much time as if like to read but I found myself unable to step away from theses characters. I found myself reading it everywhere.
Whether I was at home in bed, in my car waiting for carpool, at soccer practice, sitting in waiting rooms at appointments or cooking dinner I found myself following Lena and her friends wherever they went. I really really enjoyed this story and can not wait to see what comes next from this author.
Loved this book!! It was sooo not what I was expecting and I absolutely inhaled it! I'm hoping there is more in this series soon (write fast please!). I loved the quirky characters and wish I could see what they see. I enjoyed the fact that the "evil" characters were just trying to do their job and thinking their way was the right way... makes me realize this is what a lot of people do in real life.
Holy cow!!! I want more, heck I need more. There really is so much more room to develop this story into a series and I really do hope it happens!!
Lena's life is turned upside down and back up again. She is an amazing character though. Surprisingly she didn't drive me crazy like most female characters have lately. I found her hilarious! Now I'm just said this story is over. For now right? Right????
So FYI!!!! Word to my author, we need more Cat!!!!!
A unique plotline! Read lots of books in this genre about vampires, witches, other lives, etc, but none about guardian angels. For those wondering, it has nothing to do with witches. :-) Even better was the humor. LOL'd more than once! Looking forward to the next one Ms. Fisher.
The details in this book are phenomenal. I love how Fisher describes her characters in a way that you feel like you're a part of them. The take on Guardian Angels is a unique one and one I can't wait to continue. Looking forward to book 2.
I really wanted to like it but this book was all over the place. It seemed the author had too many ideas for the paranormal elements and never made sense of them. It was very disjointed. Lena was fun but soon became annoying. The humor became forced not organic. The hormonal brothers made me roll my eyes. I expected more from a 4 star rating. This is nowhere near what I consider a four star novel.
Note #1: I received a free review copy of this work at my request with the understanding that I prepare an unbiased review. I have no other connection to this author.
Note #2: The novel's text contained in the .MOBI file (the file type compatible with the Amazon App and Amazon devices) I was given may or may not be the same as the one available for purchase. The cover art includes a notice that this is an "ADVANCE READER COPY," a cumbersome "NOT FOR SALE" noticed followed and the book contains no ISBN or ASIN.
Sadly, I cannot recommend this work. What this felt like to me:
>> An interesting concept >> A first draft. A very rough first draft.
Oh, and:
Here's what I thought I was getting: A story about a girl who can see and communicate with guardian angels.
Here's what I got: Sort of the above, I guess. But it was damned hard to tell, what with all the discussion about boobs, bras, broken bras, nine inch long manhood, weird kink inserted for no particular reason I could see, random characters introduced then trotted off the stage never to be heard from again, good guys called "guards," bad guys called "guardians" (or maybe it was the other was around?), a father that didn't acknowledge the protagonist existed except when it was time to grill a prospective boyfriend, Christian God vs. Greek mythological deities, something, something reincarnation. And a luau for no particular reason.
The plot, such as it was, seemed to have no particular beginning or ending, either. Bits and pieces of it weren't actually awful, but the author seemed to not only have no idea where she was going, she seemed not to have any idea where she'd come from.
Meh. I'm not really sure what else I can say or advice I can offer, sorry.
At first, I was really into this book. Lena sounded a lot like me when I was in high school, and I was excited to read a book that didn’t have a pretty, thin girl at the center. I mean, Lena is even a gym spaz.
But I quickly came to the point that I had to force myself to read it. The whole deal with the guardian angels really confused me. Were they good, or were they evil? It seems each chapter told us something different. I felt like I had come into the story in the second book in the series, but this is the first book in the trilogy. Some sort of guardian angel “crash course” would really have helped me understand a lot.
However, the wild shifts in Lena’s brain, wondering who her allies really were only adds to her authenticity as a teenager. I can still remember those crazy changes in thinking with only one thing being said. It was absolutely chaotic, so that part holds true.
While I liked Glenn and his brothers, they did seem like a bunch of over-the-top horndogs. Lena, even as she pretends she doesn’t like the attention, seems to flourish from this attention. I can’t say I really blame her, as I would have done the same, but it still icked me out a bit.
This book was not for me – I think it delved too much into paranormal for my taste, more than I had anticipated. I’m not a huge fan of paranormal so I bet those that are would enjoy A Bit Witchy.
I was given this book in order to provide an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
A Bit Witchy follows the story of Lena, an outsider in her high school, who is able to see and communicate with guardian angels. I loved Lena immediately. Her personality and snark really brought the story to life. She’s funny and quirky, and some of the things that pop out of her mouth made me literally laugh out loud. Glen’s family of crazy brothers also added quite a bit of hilarity and I enjoyed all the flirtatious banter.
In terms of the plot, I will admit that the very beginning was a tad confusing. I wasn’t sure if everyone was able to see guardian angels, or only Lena, and why some people had guardians while others didn’t, however, Ms. Fisher does a good job answering these questions as you delve further into the book. There were quite a few unexpected twists and turns, keeping me turning pages well into the night. I really loved this book and I can’t wait for the next in the series to come out!
well....since I just spent 8 months creating these characters and their world, I better love them. I knew from their inception they would take me on a crazy ride. They most certainly did not disappoint, of course any ride with the Storms is bound to be insane.
I received this book as part of a giveaway. I was not sure what to expect when I started this book. There are a lot of books with a troubled girl finding her place in the world, but A Bit Witchy managed to surprise me. It was an enjoyable read that I couldn't put down.
