Two women vie for a sheriff’s affections, while he’s busy tracking down rustlers
One bad decision, and Kathleen O’Neill is shipped off by her father to his friend’s ranch in Colorado for the duration of her pregnancy under the guise of being a widow. A far cry from Boston. Now to figure out how she will raise a child by herself. In spite of the local sheriff’s suspicions of her reason for living with his aunt and uncle, his kindness fosters emotions best left unexplored.
Sheriff Garrett Whitman only has time to locate cattle rustlers on the prowl. With few eligible women in the town of Falling Rock, the easier and more practical option is a mail-order bride, who’s arriving soon. The only problem is the pretty widow Kathleen O’Neill, who shows up at his uncle’s ranch and tugs at his heart.
Will Kathleen’s secret push Garrett away? Or will he marry a woman he’s never met?
The Sherrif’s Dilemma is a charming historical romance novella set in Colorado in 1880. I loved this story with its vivid period details, heartfelt emotion, and engaging characters. Author Alicia Whittle creates a tender story with believable development. Kathleen and Garrett face significant obstacles, yet their growing connection feels natural and thoughtful. A lovely choice for readers who enjoy sweet, heartfelt historical romance with memorable characters and a glimpse into another era. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
I loved the charisma and chemistry between the characters! What started out with a delicate situation which unfortunately more common than talked about, has complications and consequences usually more for the women than the men!
And how cute and well behaved were the dogs, who by the way were appropriately named and complimented their respective owners whichever absolutely helped to complete the development of the story!
Alicia Whittle has done it again! I've read several books by this author. The Sheriff's Dilemma has just the right amount of romance, complications, and misdirection to keep the pages turning. It's a quick, clean read. Set in lovely Colorado! If you like mail order bride, historical romance, you'll greatly enjoy The Sheriff's Dilemma!!
A beautifully written, sweet historical romance with believable characters. The author's writing is wonderful, crafting characters that feel authentic and real. Though this was my introduction to her storytelling, I am officially a fan and look forward to reading more.
A sweet Christian story of love and redemption. The writing feels stilted though, as the author doesn’t use any contractions in the dialogue (it’d feel more natural if the characters were Amish, or from a more formal area, but the “Wild west” doesn’t seem like a place & time where people all speak so grammatically formal to each other).
