Maxim was a young orphan surviving on the streets of Woodhaven. Alone, cold and hungry, each day was a struggle for survival. However, a series of events not only change who he is, but what he is. A new life is opened up to him, as the powers within, which had been dormant for so long, are suddenly awoken. He soon finds himself being hunted. With the help of new friends, he journeys southward to Pitford. Here he hopes to learn how to nurture and control his powers. Kothia is a nation where magic is deemed a threat, and where the monarchy struggles to keep control from a corrupt government. Moreover, its neighbour also has ambitions to extend its borders, and Maxim's powers soon attract their interest.

The book was fun, light, and entertaining. I can't Waite until the next one comes out. Who doesn't love and Max is definitely an underdog.
I gave the book 4 stars. Because I really enjoyed it. It was fun and entertaining. I all ways love a book staring an underdog and you get any lower than an orphan who was kicked out on the street with no place to go and little money. My only complaint is have to Waite for the next book to be released.
I know,I picked this up on a whim. The next thing I knew I was done and wanted more. This has the makings of an awesome series. We have a little romance in the air. A boy with a lot of power, a royalty match, the third wheel. Plus to top it off a really cool wolf. I am now rambling. I hope the second book comes out soon.
Story starts with a boy living on the streets in till he fries a officer and stumbles into a sequestered civilization of (very forbidden) magic users. The story is okay, really. The absolutely horrid spelling was not okay.
