Charlie Brown and the gang have got space on the brain and Snoopy leads the way as the World Famous Astronaut! While the kids play space, Snoopy has got troubles of his own with The Cat Next Door, who has taken Snoopy's supper dish! Will our favorite beagle get his dish back in time for dinner or will he have to travel to the moon on an empty stomach? Fire the rockets and see what happens in this all-new original graphic novel featuring Charles M. Schulz's PEANUTS!
For me, this was like the original voice Charles Schulz had for the TV specials like 'the Great Pumpkin'. I had fun reading this and if felt authentic. The center of the story was snoopy and a little less of everyone else and I was ok with that. Instead of snoopy being the red barron, he was an astronaut going to the moon.
A few of the gang are here, but not everyone. Snoopy makes a great joke at Lucy's expense. She is yelling at him to be tough. Lucy says "Show me you can take this cat! Show me you can pound him! She me your MEAN SIDE!" The next frame snoopy comes out dressed up like Lucy with a wig on. It's hysterical. It cracked me up.
I thought this was well done and really kept the voice of Charles Schulz. I might look for another one of these.
This is by far the weakest of the revamped Peanuts books I've read. The connective plot goes all over the place; more of the book focuses on Snoopy fighting the cat next door than it does on space trips. It still feels like they've stitched together classic strips into one narrative, but it just doesn't work as well. I do have to say, the space artwork is beautiful; probably some of the best included in a Peanuts title. But it just doesn't doesn't pull together as a coherent whole as well as the others have. Not bad, just Okay, but that still puts it at the bottom of the Peanuts pile...
The misleading title would leave the buyer to believe this is all about Snoopy and a space mission. It's not. Part if about Snoopy and the moon. The rest is about Snoopy and a cat. The tales are pretty well woven together. Overall the story is bumpy. A better approach would've been to create chapters to separate the different parts of the tale. Maybe even separate stories.
The artwork in most parts is excellent. In others the artwork is not as well done, inconsistent or rushed.
Bottom line: I recommend this book. 6 out of ten points.
Growing up reading Peanuts in the newspaper guaranteed I’m head over heels for Snoopy. This is a fast read but sooooo good. The cat next-door gets his butt handed to him when he bird-nap’s Woodstock
So happy that the whole comic book is colored! Basically, the comic’s main theme is on astronauts, space and moon landing. Aside from that, snoopy’s need to dog-up and face the neighbor’s cat :)
I already loved snoopy, and when it gave me the opportunity to look at Vol. 7 , I took it! So I got interested and looked into this one, which is even better. I never really laugh at comics, because they are not funny to me, but other thank that, this comic is amazing!
I loved how it was like I was reading it straight from the comic strip! And snoopy has a good sense of humor, it definitely will give you a little chuckle.
