The first brutal year of World War I has ended and now everyone understands this isn’t a war that will end by Christmas. With thousands lying dead on the fields of France and Belgium, the Keeton brothers continue to fight on.
Danny discovers the painful truth of what happened to his older brother Jacob Keeton, and realises not all enemies wear the uniform of a German soldier. A brief reprieve from the war allows him to live the life of a fifteen-year-old for a fleeting moment, before the war takes a new and brutal turn.
When Danny discovers the bullets of his own side can be just as deadly as those from Imperial Germany, death might be closer than he thinks.

Remember to check out my original Made in Yorkshire series, where you can meet the offspring of many of the characters featured here. It all starts with 1964 (Made in Yorkshire Book 1), which you can own for free today!
James Farner is a professional writer and draws upon his love of fiction and his love of stories that span generations. His signature series Made in Yorkshire was born out of a desire to find out ‘what happened next?’
At the end of every good film, book, or TV show the characters disappear and that’s the end of them. James isn’t alone in the desire to find out what happened to the characters afterwards.
This is how Made in Yorkshire appeared. Starting from 1953 and driving on to the modern day, James explores the different eras of Britain through his colourful cast of characters.
Prior to writing fiction, he enjoyed a career as a freelance writer. His writing has appeared online, in magazines, and in a variety of other publications.
When not writing, he can be found sketching, watching sports, and playing the tin whistle.
1915 is the second book in a war years series of books written by James Farner. The book is part of a series of five books which span each year of the First World War.
The books follow the brothers in the Keeton family from Holbeck outside Leeds through the war which they are fighting in, in Belgian and France. This book, 1915, mainly follows the two brothers who are both only fifteen, Danny and Charlie Keeton.
James Farner is not a really well known author to me however after having read his first two books in this series, ‘1914’ and ‘1915’, what I would say is James Farner writes extremely well and his books are easy reading. ‘1915’ like ‘1914’ are both really easy books to get into and are very well written. The characters are all easy to either love or hate. Although this book is fiction, you can tell James Farner has really done his research into the history of this period of time and this clearly shows in his writing.
It's a fast read however shows the British military and society in a very bad light. This is not "All Quiet on the Westerm Front." That book was also very anti-war but presented more comrradery that the British. The ending is a bit contrived with all the snobbery represented by the privalliaged class. May read the next one in the series but in no rush. May re-read "All Quiet...". first. (less) 0 minutes ago · delete
This was another outstanding one by Mr. James Farner. At the rate I am going, I do not think it will be any books he has written that I will not like. This one was full of action, making it hard to put down. I highly recommend this one. Make sure each of the books are read in the proper order or else you will be missing a great deal of the plot.
Well told story of the trench fighting of WW 1. The Germans weren’t the only enemy being fought, as the English hierarchy also caused acrimony in the trenches.
The story of the Keeton twins in the war continues. Danny continues to make poor decisions that lead him into trouble. Definitely read book 1 (1914) before reading this book. Highly recommend this series.
it's interesting reading from a teenage war veteran point of view, I still feel all of the books should be one, yet it doesn't stop the interest. the twin brothers manage some reprieve and enjoy life, their first kisses and girls whom love men in uniform, Danny takes his lust for his girl back to the trenches, war life changes and not always as expected. eager to read the follow up books, they'll have to wait a while.
The horrors of World War and and a family scattered continue
Danny and Charlie are still underage, trying to find their brothers, and most of all trying to stay alive fighting for their country. The disappearance of their older brother haunted them as they try to stay focussed can they find anything to help them focus on something real again?
Reading about the world war from the perspective of fifteen year old boys is very different than from a history book. The Keeton family appears dysfunctional but in that period of time, life was probably that hard.
I read this book because I read the first in the series and wanted to know where the story went. I wasn't disappointed as the story got a little better and the author dived further into the characters. I would still only suggest it for younger readers.
As the first book does, this one continues the suspense associated with the war years. The book is an attention getter and will make you want to pick up the next one in the series.
