Haggis and Tank's big imaginations take them on a search for real live dinosaurs! They build a nest for dino eggs and play baseball with a triceratops. But then the ground starts shaking. Is a T-rex chasing Haggis and Tank? Or could something else be headed their way? This series is full of clever wordplay and homophones that make Haggis and Tank's adventures even more fun!
Jessica Young grew up in Ontario, Canada, and now she lives in Tennessee. When she's not making up stories, she loves sharing the creative process with kids. Her books include I'll Meet You in Your Dreams, the Fairylight Friends early reader series, the Haggis and Tank Unleashed early chapter book series, Play This Book, Pet This Book, A Wish is a Seed, My Blue is Happy, the Finley Flowers chapter book series, Spy Guy the Not-So-Secret Agent, and her forthcoming board book, Baby's Here! (2022).
Read this out loud with my five year old, he giggled quiet a bit. We "lava" Haggis and Tank and hope there will be more! Great Illustrations!!! The dogs have such fun imaginations.
Early chapter book series featuring a pair of brother and sister dogs; one is enthusiastic and the other is curmudgeonly. But both dogs have plenty of imagination. In the back of the book is a page devoted to questions/activities.
In this second title in the series, Haggis and Tank hunt for dinosaurs and help out a busy triceratops mom by sitting on her eggs.
In their second adventure, Tank and Haggis discover a bone in the backyard and decide to go on a dinosaur hunt. They find some large eggs and try to warm they so they can hatch, and then when the eggs' mother triceratops shows up, they befriend her and play various games. All the fun comes to an end, though, when an erupting volcano sends them and the other dinosaurs in the area running for safety. Out of time and space, the two canines hug each other for reassurance and reflect on the coldness of the lava, which, of course, turns out to be something else entirely, courtesy of their human companion. Not only are the illustrations colorful, but the text is engaging and will keep early chapter readers busy and interested. I was particularly impressed with how the events in their prehistoric adventure have roots in their real life. Ah, the power of imagination to take us to so many wonderful places!
When either of you can make the other laugh or the two of you are laughing together or even better if you can make those around you laugh, this is simply the best. With the release of two books in a brand new series classic comedy teams of William Abbott and Lou Costello, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, George Burns and Grace Allen, Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance (Ethel) and Tim Conway and Harvey Korman are going to have to relinquish a portion of the limelight to the dog duo found in Haggis And Tank Unleashed #1: All Paws on Deck (Scholastic, January 5, 2016) and Haggis And Tank Unleashed #2: Digging for Dinos (Scholastic, February 23, 2016). Author Jessica Young and illustrator James Burks deliver to readers non-stop action packed with hilarity.
This book provided a source for adventure, mystery and imagination! It was great seeing how Haggis and Tank went on a hunt for Dinosaurs, using only their imagination, which the reader got to see come to life within the pages of the book. I also appreciated the conversational tone that the book allowed; going from the narrated story to the conversation of Haggis and Tank within the illustrations. A wonderful young reader book!
Oh my goodness I just binged all 3 volumes of “Haggis and Tank Unleashed” and adored each and every one! I wish that there were more!
What first attracted me to these children’s “graphic novels” was reading “Bird And Squirrel” that is illustrated by James Burks as well. I loved that book so much I was really hoping to find more books with other characters who had a friendship much like theirs; I found that in Haggis And Tank! Jessica Young has the ability to take children’s novels to a whole another level. She creates an environment that is not only educational for our children, but easy to follow, adventurous stories that keep you flipping the pages so curious as to what happens next for these two! She even adds quite a bit of humor and had me at 33 years old laughing out loud!
These books are really for all ages above second grade and are super fun! Cannot recommend enough, especially as bedtime stories! You don’t have to read them in order, they are definitely stand alone, but I would recommend it.
In “Digging for Dino’s” this dynamic duo pack their bags for an adventure searching for Dino’s in the forest. Though, they’re not entirely sure if dinosaurs are still around or not....what they find might surprise them!!
We're loving the Haggis and Tank books; I can see there's a third for us to read and I hope they kept getting made after that.
A mix of early reader text and graphic novel; this has Haggis and Tank going in search of dinosaurs. We've been doing tracking at the beach recently including comparing our footprints to bird tracks or to shoe prints others have left in the sand so it was perfect timing to giggle over how Haggis and Tank end up following their own paw prints in the mud.
I love how at the end of these books their imaginary world dissolves back into reality and we can see how the dinosaur eggs were tennis balls, the volcano is a bubble bath, and the triceratops is their little girl.
Funny, easy, and full of colored illustrations. It's a perfect beginning chapter book for the kid who is just starting out. Boys and girls will like this one, but boys will gravitate to it more.
If your child is a bit more resilient to read, read the book with your child. Alternate pages or chapters, and have fun with it. There is humor in this series that is to be enjoyed.
This delightful story follows two adventurous dogs, Haggis and Tank, as they embark on a whimsical quest to find dinosaurs. Along the way, they build nests for dino eggs, play baseball with a triceratops, and bring their vivid imaginations to life. Packed with clever wordplay and homophones, this book is both entertaining and educational, making it a perfect choice for young readers transitioning to chapter books.
This story feels like a Graphic Novel. Haggis, a scotland terrier and Tank a Great Dane hang out in their backyard until Tank uncovers a dinosaur bone. Then their imaginations take off and we are in a prehistoric time period as they imagine scenarios about dinosaur's and dinosaur eggs. In the end we get back to their backyard. They are a funny couple of dogs from different backgrounds.
Haggis and Tank are back for a new adventure! This time, they’re searching for dinosaurs!! Will they find some? The second book in this series was a delight!
I love that the author uses homophones (ate and eight, not and knot) to create good humor for the parents reading this aloud, but also appreciate that my future beginning readers will see these in usage together!
Haggis and Tank are two laugh-out-loud funny pals. In this adventure they find a bone in their backyard and decide to go for a dinosaur hunt filled with grand games and great danger! This is a wonderful transitional chapter book for your early elementary reader.
Adorable! I wish I had a book like this when I was growing up. It has lots of cute word-plays, kind of reminiscent of Amelia Bedelia. I also like the fast-paced adventure and how the main characters resist gender norms in fun, natural ways. Great!
Read with my 4.5 year old son over 2 nights. I thought it was a great intro chapter book. He really loved the jokes/play on words. Lots of laughs from him. The illustrations are colourful and engaging.
This book still used word play, just like in the first book of the series, but it wasn’t as drastic so my son and I both liked it a little more than the original. Again, the imagination was fantastic and we even laughed out loud a few times.
These books make my kids laugh with all the silly situations the two main character dogs get into. My 7 year old is able to understand all the homophone jokes, but my 4 year old doesn’t yet. They definitely want to read book #3 next.
I thought it was pretty good. I loved the characters and thought it was very original. It was very exciting and I enjoyed the book. The only reason I gave it a 4 star and not a 5 star, is because I wish it would have been longer.
Colorful pages, graphic novel-like and lots of word play mKe this a great choice independent readers. Haggis and Tank have adventures without leaving their back yards.
This was so cute. I really think young kids in 2nd or 3rd grade would really love this. The imagination Haggis and Tank have is so creative and everything kids should be doing.
Cute story to read with Harry. He's even reading some of the pages. He enjoyed the dogs use their imagination to go on adventures. Illustrations are fun with delightful banter.
