The 'Outage' Boxed Set (Books #1-3) was impossible to pause with all the nonstop action, nail-biting suspense and graphic horror. The plot is amazingly clever and the character development impeccable. Oh yeah... Don't forget your silver bullets. As always, Troy Duran knocks it out of the park with his supreme narrative talents. Up Next: 'The Reckoning' (Outage, #4)
Yes, it's "30 Days of Night" with werewolves even if the author, in a bonus interview, says that he was inspired to write the series by a particularly nasty snow storm. Being from Minnesota, the idea of being inspired by a snowstorm seems ludicrous, like being inspired by bark or bad luck. No matter. I couldn't have cared if Mr. Piperbrook had found the outline in a storage space once rented and forgotten by Stephen King. Scary? Well, if you believe in werewolves, it must be terrifying, but for me, tucking into this series made me recall how I felt when I was a kid seeing a well-made horror classic like "Frankenstein" or "Dracula". Or "Jaws". No matter how sophisticated or cynical you think you are, the author manipulates you into caring about the physical safety of people and things that you know can't possibly exist. True, you can say that about all decent fiction, but I think it's harder to pull off in the horror genre. On account of us all being so sophisticated and cynical, don't you know?
Yeah, "Outage". It might not be perfect, but it is perfectly, unequivocally fun. I await the miniseries, silver bullet in hand.
It was an enjoyable series. The first book was way too short but at least it was free. This really could be said it is one book. I did enjoy it though and would recommend it and look forward to a 4th book.
This is one of those books that grabs you and shakes you through your whole being! The trials and tribulations that the people went through are gruesome to say the least. It's really good on a cold winter's day. Enjoy!
This three book set was a thrill ride from beginning to end. I was excepting the usual werewolf story, but I got a lot more. The premise of this story is a snow storm of epic proportions that is the trigger for a rampage by not just one werewolf, but a super pack of werewolves. That is all I can say so as not to ruin the story. As to the characters and such there is much to say. Some of them make it and others don't. The author made me want to see them through this nightmare of a storm, but I just knew that wasn't going to happen. I also liked the idea of the storm and the havoc it brings ; the loss of power, no means of communication, and the bone chilling cold. If you have ever been through a power outage like the one in these books then you know how the characters feel. Those, who like werewolf stories, will find this set to be a page turner, a thrill ride and a few plot twist to enjoy.
AMAZING! i am not a fan of apocalyptic type books but I am thrilled that I was talked into this! I couldn't put it down and read the entire package in about 6 days therefore I cannot review each book as I didn't stop to read each new title as they popped up because I was too into the story! I don't believe in revealing any of the content anyway, I tell you the emotions it evoked in me and allow you to have your own experience with it! Having said that, I think I went through the lot; fear, terror, anger, hate, sadness, affection and love - how's that for a cocktail? Also I cried a lot and cringed a lot and scared myself my accidentally shouting out "Oh No" a few times! I highly recommend this collection, even if you have a hang-up about apocalyptic books like me, because this is, as I said, AMAZING! Very well done Mr Piperbrook!
A once in a lifetime snowstorm leads to a end of hibernation for a formidable foe of mankind, Werewolves! Heavy snow has isolated a small area of homes, while also causing trees to topple and take out power too. No heat, and roads blocked by fallen trees, and snow so deep, vehicles wouldn't get through the roads anyways. Some families had left, but did they really get far? Humans are being hunted and these monsters have waited so long to taste the bloodied humans again!
Music: Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Werewolves, full moons and isolation during a severe winter storm. All the ingredients for mayhem.
This boxed set is fast-paced, gory and entertaining. A blackout occurs during a severe winter storm, in a small town, in Connecticut. What our characters believe are just frozen branches hitting the ground, are really things that go bump in the night.
The first book was just okay for me, but it got better as we went further into the story. Don't get attached to the characters. That's as close to a spoiler as I can get. Doesn't mean no one survives, but there are a lot of werewolves. LOL
The isolation of a big snowstorm is bad enough, but combine that with huge beasts out there, waiting for you to be their prey. The author doesn't try to reinvent the idea of werewolves, but he doesn't have to. He really hits the terror, despair, and isolation of trying to survive a seemingly endless, unstoppable force that wants nothing more than you dead.
You will not be bored! I read this set very quickly! I do enjoy it when I don't know what is going to happen. You think you are following the main character (meaning they will survive) and surprise you are switched out to someone else. You don't know who will survive and then who is one of the lycans. Great job!
I would like to think these things can't happen, but fear can bring out the worst in people.shows that being kind and sticking with each other can help.was sorry to see al take his life.in times like that,it is easy way out. Will continue to see if it happens again when darkness falls. Good read.
Don't normally read these type of stories but had downloaded these without reading synopises.. Started within Gatwick airport waiting on my flight and got hooked. Needed to see if Tom made it to morning. As l dont like Horror l will probably leave at end of book 3. If this layout type of story maybe you will carry on.
Definitely kept me engaged enough not to take a break, other than the necessary ones. Only thing I don't like about these so called books is t fact they are not books at all. A book has a beginning and end, some have a certain person or setting in which a second book or series can be written. My mind was cranking them stories out to.
Oh my, i don't know what to say except this book set grabbed me on the first page and didn't let up until the end. I read this entire set in one sitting. I recommend that you have a clear schedule, a cozy spot, and some snacks on hand before starting this. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.
I barely got through the first chapter when my fear of dogs got the better of me. That's when I looked up the reviews and realized this was about werewolves. Ravaging a town in the middle of a snowstorm.
Think I'm going to clear the driveway in the dark while it's snowing this year? Think again...
The book was great. The pacing was fantastic and the action was non-stop.
I found this book set to be difficult to put down, as the tensions built slowly and kept me fully involved. Well written horror story,I will be getting the next book asap and trying more of the authors works. You won't be disappointed!!!
This was a really good story. I like how you couldn’t read it fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. Even tho the story was good, I DID NOT like the nasty words, and taking the Lords name in vain. That was not acceptable!!
I liked the different take in this book, with the werewolf. Some parts to much information and I was skimming threw. Another part said kilometers , could be a really great read
A well written suspenseful horror series. Imagine the worst snow storm you've experienced. Now imagine the power is out and it's getting colder and there are animals, huge animals that seem to have come with the blizzard. And they are hungry.
I liked this trilogy. I think I’m going to read the remainder of the books in the series. It is pretty scary. Don’t read it working the overnight shift and then have to go outside and do perimeter safety checks like I did. Lesson learned.
This is not your run of the mill werewolf tale. The beginning starts off fairly ho hum then quickly spins off into terror for the first couple we meet. Our MC is Tom and he is one heck of a man. This is one series you don't want to miss out on.
I have read this author's books before and this one I listened to. There are more in the series but not sure I will listen. This story seems to be told in the same way but with different people. It was interesting enough to hold my attention.
This box set was a lot of fun to read! I don’t scare easily, but the way Piperbrook told this story made me feel uneasy at times, which is a good thing! I am almost finished with book 5 now.
