Acting as a prequel to the events of The Darkness of the Womb, this standalone story centers around the Archetype, Instinct. His mission is to journey inside the mind of a dreamer in order to influence them to make a crucial decision that will impact the rest of history. Richard B. Knight (The “B” stands for Brandon) teaches Language Arts during the day and writes fiction at night. He decided that he wanted to be a novelist back in the fourth grade. It was all quite spontaneous. Back then, his teacher asked all of the students what they wanted to be when they grew up, and while many students chose “doctor”, or “lawyer”, or “astronaut,” Richard, wanting to be funny, chose “drag queen garbage man”. It wasn’t until his peers starting reading off their choices that Richard decided that it would probably behoove him to write down another profession. He has stuck with “novelist” ever since.

Richard has a love of movies, video games, and comic books, and all three influences come through in his writing. You can find the website for his debut novel, The Darkness of the Womb, here: http://thedarknessofthewomb.com/. Richard loves making friends. Would you like to be one of them?

Clean Hands

This Novella was very interesting. I enjoyed the banter between the three main characters, and as it progresses it gives you a lot to think about. I look forward to reading The Darkness of the Womb.

I really enjoyed The Darkness of the Womb, so I was excited to read more about it. This story is short, but keeps your full attention. You won't see the ending coming, and it is an awesome edition to the novel!

The first short story that had me turning page after page to find out what was going on. I love the way the writer took characteristics that we all have; instinct, imagination, logic...etc and made them into characters. I wished to find out what happened to instinct. Very good short story.

Because even though both Imagination and Logic saw him as a little dumb...Instinct knew this one was different. He felt it. And nothing could beat a feeling. Not even all the logic in the world.

Instinct faces the dangerous prospect of entering the mind of a human dreamer to directly influence the dreamer's critical decision. But a battle on the shaky ground of the dream world may be more than Instinct can survive in Clean Hands by author Richard B. Knight.

Wow to this.

I just needed a quick read when I picked up this allegorical kind of sci-fi short that stands alone but that also serves as the prequel to a novel. I started off mildly enjoying it as I would any smart and imaginative read where the real import of it all hasn't yet been revealed.

I was gradually drawn in by Instinct's discussions with Imagination and Logic, then came some crucial action I might expect in a sci-fi adventure. But I didn't expect that I'd be "wowing" aloud the instant I realized where the story was going. Then it did indeed go there, and I "wowed" again.

The story doesn't linger too long at its destination. And yes, to fully appreciate it, you do already have to be familiar with that ending place, but...

Yeah. There should be more Instinct in my future.

Clean Hands is a short prequel to a series, that being said I found it very interesting, but being so short, 34 pages, I was just starting to get into the story when it was over, so I plan to read the next book to truly get a feel of what I think of this series.

The writing is good, and the story is interesting, but I almost felt like this needed to be twice as long as it was because it takes a little while to figure out where the story is going. The characters are well written, but in such a short book it is hard to connect with them.

That being said I will read the next book to see what I think, but as for the moment I'm giving this 3 stars, it was good, but didn't stand out as great or exceptional to me.

It's great to find an author that can leave such an impact after I put the book down. This story is not only an excellent companion to The Darkness of the Womb, but is also strong enough to hold it's own. It delivered more to think about than a lot of full length novels I've read, and will keep my mind busy for days to come.
