Bubba the Monster Hunter is a truly unique character. He's the redneck, hard drinkin', designated hunter for the Southeast United States, getting cases from his handler, Uncle Father Joe, a Catholic priest who rides a Harley and is perfectly at home giving a sermon or riding his Harley to do battle with evil. With backup from Skeeter, a gay, thin, black man who never runs out of sarcastic things to say, and Agent Amy, is girlfriend who is a government agent from an agency most people have never heard of, and are happier that way.
Bubba faces all manner of foes, from the comedic to the deadly, and has a strange approach that sets him apart from a lot of others. While a lot of people who fight evil are ready to wade in, guns blazing, Bubba will actually look at the larger problem, and sometimes come up with a solution that doesn't involve death at all, although it might cover drinking, gas money, or a bizarre agreement.
The stories are all good, but one is a cut above the others in this collection. Stone Cold Crazy looks like a standard monster on the loose when it starts, but it grows to have some very serious topics and forces Bubba to take a long hard look at who he used to be. That one story alone elevates the whole group, but every one of them is a great read.
Urban fantasy that trends a lot more rural with a great sense of humor throughout.
