Twenty-first birthday? Check. Strange new powers? Check. Getting through this heinous WTF-ery alive? I’ll get back to you. Learning she’s Fae and has powers should have been the coolest day of Syxx’s life. Instead, she’s plunged into a decades-long battle of free will vs survival. Wrong place at the wrong time? Understatement of the century. The Fae Council has brought hundreds of reluctant Fae to the city to participate in The Sowing—a creepy traditional breeding ceremony. No one has ever dared openly challenge the Council, but a secret resistance movement has been gaining momentum. Syxx is a Moondreamer—a rare type of Fae that can make wishes come true and will things into being. The Resistance believes Syxx has the power to overthrow the Council, but her untamed abilities are still developing. With her new friends—a sexy half-incubus and a sweet leprechaun—pushing her forward, Syxx steps into the role of revolutionary. She’s got three Submit (no!), die (hell no!), or start a revolution.

5 I NEED MORE STARS

“I want to devour him. I want him to devour me.”

The Sowing is book 1 in the Moondreamer Chronicles by Tamara Mataya and while I don’t normally read books of this genre, I found myself completely sucked into this story.

Syxx is celebrating her 21st birthday on her own by seeing one of her favorite bands play live, when her life as she knows it is completely turned upside down and turned inside out. Syxx is unlike any other female main character I’ve read before. She’s not only smart, determined, independent and spunky but she’s also a Moondreamer. A type of Fae that is extremely rare, powerful and valuable within their world, but she is totally unaware of this. When she starts experiencing some very strange things on her way home, she is more than a lot confused. She’s always just been Syxx, regular girl, loves music and her best friend Trina, so why in the world is she finding herself floating? Why is this odd little man that she’s just met so adamant on becoming her new BFF and mentor? And why the He** can she not resist the urge to jump this very sexy and scary new man that has found his way into her path, his name is Draven and she cannot wait to climb him like a tree! He radiates warmth, mystery, danger and sex appeal from his every pore.

“I don’t love him, not yet. But I know that I can’t ever be without him again.”

Syxx is quickly realizing that the world she thought she lived in is not what it seems. The stories we all grew up reading and telling each other about Fairies, Elves, Succubus, Incubus, Vampires and Witches and so many more are not just mythical creatures that live within the pages of thousands of stories being read and told across the entire world. They exist and are totally real. Not all of these creatures are evil and not all of them are friendly. Navigating and understanding this new found information is going to take a huge leap of faith on Syxx’s part, but the more she digests this new found information the more Syxx knows, deep down, it’s all true.

“People need free will – that’s a cause I can believe in and fight for, no matter the context.”

The Sowing is born of the most deliciously addictive plot. Syxx, Tipper, Draven and the rest of the characters that make up this wonderfully unique story and are impossible not to love. This story has a little bit of everything to appeal to most readers, mystical beings, danger, humour, quirkiness, romance, lust and passion, betrayal, long buried secrets and enough action to keep flipping the pages at a near frantic pace just to find out what is going to happen next. I was terrified and totally entranced while I read this book. Not only is this book unlike anything I’d ever read before, but the characters sucked me completely into their bizarre and nightmarish world. This book owned me right up until the very last words. I can’t wait to see what will happen next; as this is book one in this new series. Mataya once again delivers a meticulously written book that is not only additive and totally original but she manages to do it all with heart and humour. Her stories always resonate with me after I’ve read them and Moondreamer is no exception. Fans of this genre and author will devour this book, and newbies to the scene are going to fall head over heels with this story and its author. Mataya proves once again that not only is she a brilliant writer but a totally amazing storyteller, one who is never afraid to take risks in the pursuit of telling her character’s stories and sharing them with her readers.

Great story

This was a great story that grabbed my attention from page one. The words flowed off the page and played in my head. There were twists and turns I didn't expect. The characters had me wanting to fight for their cause. I was enraged, sad, happy, surprised, and so many more emotions.

Syxx is what I love in a female lead. She showed confusion and disbelief but didn't whine about her fate. She marched forward and didn't look back. Draven changes everything you thought about his kind. So many other stories show them as bad guys, it was nice to see him as a good guy! Syxx and Draven together is explosive. I can't wait to see where they go together.

Overall this was an amazing story with amazing characters. I recommend this to all who love romance with action, suspense, and paranormal thrown in. I am really looking forward to following Syxx and Draven on their journey!!

Tamara Mataya’s THE SOWING blends her humor and talent for writing sexual tension in a great take on the Fae. I loved her characters and how the lines between good and evil/right and wrong weren’t clear-cut. Syxx and Draven’s chemistry goes beyond the steam, though Tamara doesn’t disappoint on that front. I can’t wait for book two!

I received e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This was quick and enjoybale read. Actual rating for the book is 3.5 stars. When I saw the cover and read the sinopsis I was very intrigued. After reading few books about Fae recently and enjoying them very much I was looking for a similar story. I liked author's take on the world of fairies, demons and other supernatural creatures. The book is a good blend of fantasy, romance and action. The chemistry between Syxx and Draven is sizzling. My only criticism would be that the story was developing too fast and too instant. One day Syxx is human and have no idea that she is fae and the next day literally she is leading their revolution. There is no disbelief and no struggle in her to except her new identity and her role. One day she meets Draven and the next day literally they are professing their love for each other and more. I would enjoy this book more if there was a build up to the story and to the relationships

I've been in love with Draven for years. YEARS. This is the first book I read of Mataya's and has always been my favorite. Well, probably a close tie with MAKE ME. I love everything about Syxx's story, the characrters, the heat level, the excitement. Mataya has a knack for weaving awesome storylines with equally awesome casts, and MOONDREAMER: THE SOWING has some of her best, most lovable characters yet! Just wait until you meet Tipper and Sakarius! For supporting characters, they sure make their presence known in a big way!

Jump into THE SOWING as soon as you get the chance.

Try not to wish Syxx was your IRL best friend. Try not to fall in love with Draven and Sakarius. I double dog dare you.

This was such a great NA read!! Love the added paranormal with the Fae. Mataya's writing is beautiful and her characters well-developed. The sexual tension between Syxx and Draven was hot and the added humor was fun. Now, I have to go fan myself off because that heat level ... Wow!

I only just started reading the sample, and I couldn't even get through that! Within the first few minutes of reading, the main character is already freaking out, thinking shes crazy! Could not carry on, even though the blurb looks awesome and I was really looking forward to reading it!

I had a REALLY hard time getting through this book. The concept was fabulous and I loved the idea. I just felt it was choppy and needed developing.

Although this is a fast read and the middle portion pulled me in, there are so many problems with this book that it's hard for me to imagine continuing on with the series. Aside from the characters being fairly flat and inconsistent, there's also the problem of premise. From the protagonist not acting believably in the beginning right on to the fact that a whole population seems to have been waiting for her to come save them -- despite not knowing she existed, and despite the fact that they could have done what she ends up doing all on their own -- the opening chapters of the book display a number of issues. Not to mention the fact that the protagonist herself is one of the less consistent characters I've read in some time, and suffers pretty seriously from ranging back and forth between two extremes of attitude and confidence -- most of the time, she's either half-panicked and wondering how she'll ever manage to do what she's signed up for, wishing someone would come save her, or else she's suddenly the most confident, capable, and powerful 21-year-old ever. In other words, she's annoyingly inconsistent, and takes on whatever attitude/persona happens to be convenient to a particular moment, whether that's damsel in distress or amazing heroine, and it gets old quickly.

Things move quickly in the middle, and it's easy to get wrapped up in the book, but then as the larger plot comes into focus, it also becomes clear that the premise for the series itself, and the primary conflict, are so derivative of X-Men that the connections can't be ignored. At best, you could say that this hinges on characters more built from classic fantasy (elves, sprites, etc.) than characters with powers that are more reminiscent of a sci-fi world... but really? The further into the book you go, the more it becomes clear that this is only a slightly twisted version of the X-Men world, dumbed down and sprinkled with romance, a an annoying 21-year-old's sarcasm, and a whole lot of panicked, flat characters.

So, obviously, I wouldn't recommend this book, and I certainly won't be continuing on with the series.

The Sowing blends humor and romance in this NA Urban Fantasy. This is book 1 in Tamara Mataya's Moondreamer Chronicles, and I really enjoy the world she created. Syxx is a spunky and fun MC, who is finding out she is fae and getting a crash course on the fae Council that rule them. Major props to Mataya for writing a character who doesn't bitch and moan about being fae/having abilities. Syxx seems happy to be apart of the fae community, and when she discovers the shady nature of the Council's mandatory breeding rituals, she is eager to fight for her people.

Looking forward to reading book two soon!

Decent read

I enjoyed this book, and while technically a stand alone, it really requires the next book, The Reaping, to get more of the full story.

I LOVE it when a book brings me back to my UF/PNR roots. Also, totally dig that the MC in this book was kicking ass and taking names and didn't have to sacrifice emotions to be taken seriously. Super also livingggg for the humor behind this read. Down for book 2 STAT!

First of all, I love the voice in this book. It's fun and funny! And then the romance--oh, the romance. Loved the chemistry between Syxx and Draven (*swoon*). And I loved Syxx as a character, too. Can't wait to read the next one in this series!
