Charles Band’s long running cult classic horror film series makes its way to the comic page! When a group of friends set out to use the abandoned Bodega Bay Inn as a party spot, they find out first hand that the bizarre local folklore is more truth than fantasy… as an army of twisted autonomous Puppets have their way with the trespassing teens! The Puppets are back, and they’re out for blood!
Collecting the first story arc of the ongoing Puppet Master comic!(#1-3)
This was very impressive! This is as good as any of the movies, and really much better than most of them. It would really work very well a a movie itself, for that matter. The art is top notch, the story is great for B Movie Horror, and it's great to see these characters again.
If you are even a casual fan of the Puppet Master franchise, you should definitely check this out.
3.5 stars...this was pretty good! It's been a while since I saw a story where the Puppets were the villains...and I have to admit that isn't my favorite...but this was a fun, gory read. Very much in keeping with the first two Pupper Master films. The artwork very much fits the style of these movies as well. So happy to have stumbled upon this series.
I didn't think much of anything going into this. I enjoyed the movies, but the later ones have been just terrible and this blew me away. It starts out just like a classic B horror film and then towards the end with the twist... its blows your freaking mind apart. Never put your faith in dolls because your blood is what they really want.
This book plays out like the cheesy and violent movies it is based on. The plot is predictable from the start with stereotypical slasher horror movie characters that I can hear the bad acting in my head as I read this book.
The art tries to use moody colors, but in the end the simple lines and uninspired perspectives are dull. So, with all these issues why did I give it 4 stars? I could not put this book down until I finished reading it. It captures the b-movie feel from the 1980s wonderfully.
If you like the Puppet Master movies or bad 1980s horror movies, or just want a horror story comic book to read that movies a quick pace then pick this book up.
Unfortunately I have seen every Puppet Master movie and over 70 Full Moon/Empire movies. It's my greatest addiction. So of course I was eventually going to read these comics. Surprise surprise though, this one is great. Maybe the best Puppet Master has ever been. Accurately transforms the mythos and the vibe of Puppet Master into a new format, but also doesn't have the dreadful direction and pacing most of the films suffer from. It's a super light read at only three issues for the story, has some very fun kills, and you get to see all your favorites. Sadly I must now buy them all.
As a rule I don't like horror movies, but I've liked this franchise (though I'm woefully behind in the movies!). The puppets aren't necessarily evil. They're quite multilayered in their motives, etc. Found this series of graphic novels quite by accident tonight and am reading them all. Five *****'s for everything!!!!!!
There's nothing particularly wrong with it, it's a competent horror story, and adds some interesting mythology (like the doll offerings), but it doesn't feel like it has a raison d'etre. The series takes off in the next volume though.
I was a little wary going in because of how terrible the last couple of movies have been, but this really turned out well. It felt like a back to basics story for the franchise, and I'm interested to see where the comics go from here. I liked both the writing and the art.
