Zarathustra: Book III of the Ozymandias Series

They arrived at the first closed door they had encountered on their procession though the palace-like succession of rooms and corridors that they had been following. The butler paused for a moment, indicating that they should wait while he announced their arrival. He opened the double doors, revealing an audience chamber of grand proportions. But rather than a throne at the centre, there was an elderly man sitting at a desk, set at a forty-five degree angle to the door so that he could see anyone coming in while also keeping an eye on what was going on in the grounds through the massive picture windows. The fact that he could apparently see the main entrance through one of the smaller windows reinforced the impression that their progression through the mansion had been largely to impress, rather than a necessity to reach his lair.
Opsidan looked up, indicating that the butler might speak.
