Enola I was strong...once! I had friends and a great social life. My ex took it all. He made me change. Now I'm nervous, anxious and self-doubting. I hide away safe in my bubble until I meet... Mr dirty blues. He makes me want to start again, to stop letting my past control me. But can I trust myself to trust in him? Can I let him in? Or will I fall again?
Carey I've been forced to join the family private eye business. A job I have zero interest in. I do my duty though, hoping to heal the rift between my brother and I. Mum and dad are both...gone, so we only have each other. Yeah, so life is pretty shit. I'm a moody prick dwelling on my losses. Until...her. She teaches me to feel again, to laugh and I'm addicted.
Enola Elias suffered an horrific attack at the hands of her abusive ex, James Stanwell. Years later still physically and emotionally scarred, struggling with debilitating self doubt and trust and anxiety issues she attempts navigating through life again starting with a blind date. She meets Carey Cooper who is dealing with his own demons after his mothers death and fathers suicide. He's become unenamoured with life and is just going through the motions.
When they encounter each other again, their barriers begin to break and they take a chance on one another.
Learning that her ex James is due to be released from prison, unleashes painful emotions and memories of a past Enola is still trying to overcome.
Mistakes have been made and someone has to pay.
Will Carey and Enola get their Today, Tomorrow, Forever?
I really like the idea of a romantic thriller that shows a woman recovering from domestic violence. This concept had a bit of heyday in the mid 90's but has been left to rest by and large for the last twenty years. There are a few notable exceptions which focuses on a highly trained, almost heroic, girl power, kick-ass main character coming out guns blazing. I also like the way the overcoming over emotional hurdles in this book are not easy or simple. Everybody has problems and they set each other off. Not for people easily triggered. Good for people who enjoyed movies like "Sleeping with the Enemy."
The author had a nice way of making me feel (instead of telling me) the emotions of Enola. When at first I did not understand yet why Enola was getting her anxiety attacks it felt real. In the beginning I thought it was going to be one of those hashed out a million times stories of two people meeting in a restaurant and then ending up in bed, but I was pleasantly surprised and the story was more than just the boring usual - it was amazing. The story related very well how bad relationships can haunt you years after the actual events taking place. The ending was unexpected and sad. I really hope Carey gets his revenge. I enjoyed this novella. It was a quick and engaging read.
I felt connected to Enola and Carey, and loved that their relationship was genuine and pure. Not another story of two people meeting and having sex, but understanding each other in a difficult situation. Novella I would recommend if you like suspense and romance mixed together.
First off, I love the different viewpoints in this book. You get to experience the book through Enola and Carey eyes. I became emotionally connected to the characters from the start.
The book starts with a brief account of Enola’s kidnapping. Her ex-boyfriend was very abusive to the point of kidnapping and raping her repeatedly and ends up in prison.
Enola is struggling consistently to overcome her fear and anxiety. The author hits home describing Enola’s anxiety attacks. Her constant worry in social situations makes her relatable and as a reader who struggles with anxiety, I get it.
As typical with most romance novels, the main characters fall for each rather quickly…. to be expected. In this instance, it works. Both Carey and Enola express their feelings rather well and I found myself pulling for them. Then tragedy strikes, bringing me to tears almost instantly. Be ready!
Normally I love books to have the happy ending we all strive for. That being said (without any spoilers) I can’t see how the second book will be any happier. Honestly, I only see it being more tragic. I will most likely read the second book. The author has drawn me into a genre I don’t normally go for. I need to know what happens! I give this book a 3.5 Star review. It is written in the most captivating way. You can’t help but love these characters.
I gave it 3.5 only because the climax ended so abruptly. I wanted more...and maybe it's because there is another book in the series after this.
Oh my gosh! Today, Tomorrow, Forever by K.A, Duggan is a read that starts out with a bang and ends in an ever bigger bang. Enola has suffered and was damn near destroyed by a cowardly beast of a man. Five years after, she unexpectedly finds Carey as things in her life seem to be spiraling downward again. Carey gives her reason to hope and Enola gives him reason to love. This story comes on with twists you just don't expect!
I really liked Today, Tomorrow, Forever. At first it was different reading a story in first person perspective, but it instantly helped me feel what the characters were going through. It is a fast paced short novella, but it is not short on story or interest. Today, Tomorrow, Forever is out of the romantic suspense genre-- My favorite. It is definitely not short on either romance nor suspense either, especially in first person.
Carey is handsome and sort of rugged. Enola is beautiful and timid. She comes out of her shyness at the weirdest time. She is a mixture of scared and bold and is a character I really feel for. Carey could probably hold his own in any fight, yet he's compassionate and kind to Enola when she most needs it. It makes for complex characters and a complex story that doesn't end how you would expect.
It is a short novel that I would recommend to people like me that love the twists and turns of suspense with the sweetness of romance. Just be prepared to be surprised.
I haven't read many novellas, I've tended to be left either wanting more - i.e. a novel - or wishing they had been better edited i.e. short stories. K A Duggsy has got the balance about right. Yes, there could be more back-story and character development and yes, the story could continue... but that would make it a novel. This story is essentially about Enola, her tragic past and her brightening present, all tied up in her various relationships. Her point of view alternates with that of Carey, a man she meets unexpectedly; a good writing technique that offers us a depth sometimes hard to achieve in a novella. It's a satisfying read but it's not comfortable and I was shocked by the ending, which I didn't expect. I mean all of that as a compliment. Duggsy made me think, but within the confines of a good story - a very good combination. The book would benefit from a good edit and/or proofreading as there are consistent errors in grammar and punctuation, but that fact that I stopped noticing them after a while shows how the story drew me in! I will read definitely the second story in the series, just not yet; I need to think about this one for a bit longer first.
This books starts with a bang. I read the prologue and was instantly sucked in. Enola is the perfect combination of victim and strong survivor. Carey came through as her flawed knight in shining armor. I liked their chemistry at their first meeting, and it continued to get better. With Enola's past, she could have easily remained a fractured woman but she chose to live again, and do so with Carey. I was proud that she managed to reach a high level of trust with him. There are scenes in this book that make you cringe--because they mirror real-life situations that people find themselves in. Enola came through the ordeal with bravery, only to be faced with another hellish situation. And the ending--oh, the ending had me tearing up. I was sad to see this story end, and I'm eagerly waiting for the follow up. It can only get better from here.
A very different read and one that I wasn't expecting. Good things do come in small packages and this book packed a real punch.
Enola is walking a tight rope between her past and wanting to get on with her life when she meets Carey. In Enola we have a character that has been to hell and back. Her emotional struggles feel very real as they seep from the page and you feel with her as she goes on her journey.
Carey is the strong, protective man that is perfect for Enola as she gets her life back on track. His profession gives her a certain amount of security. But the past has a way of catching up with you.
Highly suspenseful, full of angst and emotion. Lots of surprises and only a little predictability. It was a thrill a minute.
This novella was a quick read and I enjoyed every moment. I loved the name Enola and I empathized with her and understood her motivations. She came across as ‘true’, someone who had dealt with trauma and continued to deal with the ongoing effects. Either the author has experienced trauma, knows someone who has experienced trauma, or did a massive amount of research. I also loved Carey. He was a three-dimensional character with complexity and depth. This isn’t a romance with a crime story thrown in, this is a crime story with elements of romance. I prefer this kind of story to straight romance. Excellent story, well worth a read. Can’t wait for book #2!
This book is powerful. In some ways, it reminded me a lot of one of my favorite books "Into the Darkest Corner". But Today, Tomorrow, Forever is definitely a unique story in and of itself.
First, the prologue sucks you in. If you don't have time to finish, I suggest you wait until you do have time to finish it in one sitting, because you will not be able to put it down.
Not at all what I was expecting - very true to life, very endearing, very heartbreaking, and very romantic. Enola's point of view is very real. She will hook you from the start.
This story will remain in your mind for long after you've read the last page. It's haunting.
This was a great fast read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and once I started I had to know more. I had to see what had happened to Enola, and how she would overcome that. I really liked Casey’s character as well, and I really loved how the two met. This short read has some mystery, with a little bit of suspense which I really enjoyed. You also get flashbacks of the past that help put the pieces together. The ending though…well let’s just say I did not see that one coming! I really liked reading this book and I am looking forward to what’s to come next!
This book was short and to the point. It is part of a series and I am interested to see where the story goes. The story had good flow and an engaging storyline. The only complaint I have is that the main female character was very quick to have sex for the first time with her new boyfriend after finding out her rapist and abuser was on the lose and had vandalized her car and broke the windows of her apartment. I know I wouldn't be in the mood. Other than that I think the story was a good read and I am interested in checking out the second book in this series.
**Arc provided to Little Miss Reader for honest review**
This Novella was 3.5 star read for me it would of been a 4 star if this was maybe a full novel I really needed more of a back story from the main characters Carey and Enola especially Carey.
That been said I really enjoyed the story line which involved some very sensitive issues which I think the author K A Duggsy handled them really well.
A different read A well written book which takes you into the mind of a woman trapped by her past, its certainly makes you aware of how a tortured mind tries to protect itself, I wished for a better ending for the young woman and was saddened by the outcome, it hits home about abusive relations in a crisp clean way
A good story with likeable characters. Enola is a strong woman who is trying to get her life back after a traumatic event. She meets Carey, a nice guy who makes her smile again. The fast pace and the twisters and turns kept me reading. I was a little disappointed with the abrupt and sad end.
This story follows the lives of Enola and Carey. Enola wasn't looking to meet anyone. She was okay plodding along as she was. Her best friend thought otherwise. Kailen decides it's about time Nole got back out there after a disastrous relationship that changed Enola more than words can say. After psyching herself up for the date things seem to go from bad to worse for Nole when the man doesn't even bother to turn up. She's just about to leave plotting her best friends demise when she hears a "sexy as sin" voice asking if he can join her, only he's not the blind date, he just felt compelled to join her. After talking for hours, things seem to be going great bug the night doesn't end the way either of them would want, leaving them to go their separate ways. When they run into eachother again it seems like fates be at play. Enola is obviously reserved and anxious about starting a relationship with anyone based on her horrible past with men. Will she be able to get past it and open up to Carey, who turns out to be the perfect kind of man for her? Meanwhile, just as she's starting to believe in herself and a good life she could possibly build, someone from Enolas past seems to be gearing up to threaten any kind of happily ever after she could hope for. This is a great book. I really connect with Enolas character and found myself rooting for her. I'm excited to read what happens next.
Enola is a strong character, still recovering from the scars left by her ex, she has anxiety attacks but tries her best to live her life, She is set up on a blind date by her best friend, when her blind date stands her up she meets Carey.
Oh Carey, I Loved Carey so much! such a good man, he reacted to Enola's past so beautifully. He was there for her when she needed him, when her past catches up to her he never leaves her side.
Wow this Novella is amazing!! such gripping suspense throughout!! loved both characters, they are really well developed.. Getting to know Enola and what she suffered and how she moved forward from it was truly spectacular.. Didn't love the ending but it didn't matter to the review score, because the writing and plot line were so good.. K A Duggsy truly has exceptional writing skills, her characters feel alive, you feel as though you know them and know how they are feeling even though we aren't being told.. The Novella doesn't feel as if it were rushed just to fit everything into it, nothing felt rushed.. The story felt developed I'm Dying to read the next instalment of this series..
I would defiantly recommend to everyone who loves romantic thrillers.
Enola Eliase is a very damaged young woman. Five years earlier she was attacked by her ex boyfriend, James. He brutally beat her and raped and cut her. She almost died. When someone found her she had him arrested. When it went to trial he got ten years in prison. Enola received a letter that he was getting release and he would be back in the community. She had always lived in fear but her bestfriend was trying to get her back out to dating. She set her up on a blind date with her husbands friend. He stood her up. She sat waiting in the bar and was approached by a man. He ask if he could join her and he introduced himself as Carey Cooper. He is a P I and works with his brother, Carter. She talks a little too him then goes to the restroom. When she comes back he is gone and he left her a note. She meet him again a few weeks later and they did start seeing each other. This I thought was a love story and it is but it is sad and it leads into the next book. This book is short but it does contain profanity and sex so it isn't for everyone. The story is good but I didn't like where the author went with it. If you like suspense I think you will love this series.
This is the second story that I have read by this author and she never stops surprising me at how good her writing is. K A Duggsy is a master of pure writing genius!!! You really must try her books to see for yourself. Ive read a few similar stories of this genre but this one has so much more because it contains a little bit of everything from lust, love, hate, fear, romance and heartbreak . Its a quick read and very fast paced but there is enough good quality story to make you feel that you're not missing out on anything because the plot has been really well thought out and the characters of Enola, Carey and James are written that you can really get a feel of their emotions as the story plays out. I was kept on the edge of my seat all through this book and I never once thought it would end the way that it did, it was so very unexpected and I was taken a little by surprise, I will be delving into the next book of the series asap as I need to know how this story will come to a conclusion.
The book begins with a terrifying nightmare-like Prologue which pulls the reader in. Then we are introduced to Enola, as she tries to move forward in her life. The pace is slow, as we become accustomed to the dialogue in Enola's head. The self talking and reassuring herself are very real tools which she uses in order to keep her anxiety attacks at bay. When we are introduced to Carey, there is a connection and in time hope that Enola will find love and that the two of them together will find happiness. I wish the ending would have been different, but it is a good cliff-hanger for the next book.
I liked the narrative of the book showing both perspectives. I would've liked to get to know the characters better overall. I feel if I had been allowed to understand more of what Enola's past was like I could have felt more compassion. With Carey, I understood even less; The story pretty much just described him as very handsome. I realize that more will be revealed in the sequel but I don't know that the first book intrigued me enough to read it.
ropes you in from the beginning From the moment I read the description, and throughout every page, I was captivated. The story drew me in, and I could not stop reading; I had to know what was going to happen. Awesome description of anxiety due to outside influences! Really, a great read. I liked the changes that the characters went through during the story as well.
If you are looking for a HEA don't read this book. The author took a huge chance with her storyline. If you are looking for something different read on. Definitely different. Interesting plot.
