Something evil walks this small town’s streets … and three men will face it head on while a fourth ponders if he can become a monster.
On a quiet Fall night, murder comes to the small Iowa town of Black Forest for the first time in all its horror and depravity. Locals start to wonder if self-taught Satanist Shane Woland is involved in this horrendous killing of an awkward teenager.
Lonely and divorced Principal Schlecte believes Shane is innocent. Sherriff Tim Levington is certain the boy is somehow involved. Town mechanic Mel Roland is convinced of the accused’s guilt, as well. And Shane Woland wants to meet the killer.
But all is not as it seems, especially about the victim in this crime. For he has summoned evil, one so powerful that nothing, and no one, will be able to resist or beat it.
As these grown orphans are forced to come to terms with the deepest flaws and the darkest desires of their hearts, the battle rages as they face evil in the faces of the town, and the ones reflecting back at them in the mirror.
This is the most chilling horror novel I've read in awhile ,it had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. You will have chills running up and down your spine while reading this great story. The characters in this story face thing head on and are strong in their own way, and have their strengths and faults . The authors have woven a story that will have you biting your nails, the same way they will have checking under your bed to make sure all is clear to sleep. . The humor in this story sets it apart from other horror novels that I have read I think the part I will always remember the most is the police chief and how he reactions to his nipples, which make me laugh out loud .I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the quirky little town of Black Forest and all it's misfits, this isn't your typical thriller . I highly recommend that you read this great story ,you won't be disappointed.
A disturbing dark tale about the faceless evil that can lurk within any human. When a gruesome murder occurs in the small Midwest town of Black Forest nearly everyone there wants to blame Shane, the local "Satan worshipping" kid, but no one considers that the victim might have played a role in his own demise. Even though, action wise, I found it a little slow in the beginning, the time was well used by the author to build suspense and characterization before the really gritty stuff kicks in. By the time the violence and dark horror has been ramped up you have got to know and care about the main characters. This is a dark and chilling novel but it is that odd snippet of humour in it that helps set it apart from many others in this genre. I received this book from Candid Book Reviews in exchange for an honest review.
Orphans was a really freaky horror novel. It will give you chills as you read it. I really enjoyed reading it, and it kept me on the edge of my seat until I finished it. The only thing I didn't really get was the title and how it fit with the book itself, but that's just me. This story is totally different than anything I've read, and completely creative. I highly recommend this book if your looking for creepy and terrifying.
Death lurks in a small town after a gruesome murder of a teen. When all eyes turn to a local teen who is known as a "satanist", he starts to wonder if he can be that evil. Evil itself starts stalking him, wondering that same question, and three others get caught in this spirits web.
This novel, to me, was disturbing. Not in a bad way, but in the way that makes you care about the characters one moment and then be completely terrified the next. It was hard putting it down because I didn't want to miss anything and needed to know what was going to happen. Not your typical thriller and that is fine by me. So tired of reading the same stories over and over again. I can honestly say I had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading, but it didn't disappoint.
I was provided a copy of Orphans by Candid Book Reviews.
4.5 stars Orphans is a great read. It's well written, checks all the horror boxes, and has some exciting story threads. I could tell when the author changed over which was the only thing pulling me from the story. Other than that, I loved the quirky town of Black Forrest and all its misfits. This was my second Roy C Booth story and he hasn't disappointed me to date.
