Over a thousand years ago, The Boss founded the Brotherhood of the Prospectors, charging them to find an unnamed treasure. Since then, an unbroken line of men travelled the world of Solstice, each man taking them one step closer to the treasure. The last Prospector, Grayme Ceruleya, knows he will ultimately name the treasure. Before he does, there’s the small matter of finishing the enormous road ordered by The Boss. Prospector and his nomad, Tonyo, battle thieves, ferocious beasties and often each other on the way to an uncertain destiny. The fate of Soleila, the prophecy child, is equally uncertain. Orphaned at birth, she finds a home travelling the byways of Solstice with a colorful caravan. Her relationship to Solstice is singular, no one has ever known her power. Being destiny’s child is annoying, but little girls soon grow up to become destiny’s young adults. Who will protect her? Captain Awnyx Tiell could use some protection. His long mission is perilous enough without his superior officers plotting his ultimate captivity. The dark goddess Ynoirya always watches out for her favorite stud, giving him a gift only she can bestow. It changes The Big Man forever, can he take control of his own destiny before it’s too late? The Final war between the Twins has started. Now is the time for magicks and spectacle, for romance and heartbreak, for prancing zebras and very big cats. Prospector completes his mission, but it’s just the start of his story. The end is the beginning in Solstice and everyone must choose.
Travellers and Tramps by Cairn Rodrigues is a wonderfully entertaining and intriguing book. Solstice is a beautiful world and she has filled it with interesting, entertaining, and fascinating characters. This is the second book of the series. The first is called the Last Prospector. It will help massively as your read Travellers and Tramps, but not having read it won’t prevent you from enjoying this latest chorus of the Song of Solstice. Adventure, intrigue, mystery, humor are all included in this wonderful story. Well rounded characters include The last Prospector, Grayme Ceruleya. Accepting his position and a mission that will fill and direct the rest of his life, we learn his beliefs, desires, pleasures and pains as he leads us through the largest parts of this excellent series. He and his nomad companion, Tonyo, take us on an exploration of the wonderful world of Solstice. Adventure, danger, laughter, and eating fill the experience. Soleila, born moments before the death of her mother, has been born into a mission. One she neither understands nor appreciates as the enthralling collection of characters around her keep her wrapped in, to her mind, an often too tight web of protection. Her protectors are determined to protect her for a purpose they don’t fully understand either. From her sparkling eyes to her clever wit, the story of she and her protectors is a joy to read. Do yourself a favor and give these books a read. You won’t be disappointed.
Absolutely awesome. The world created and the characters populating it are all readily endearing and this second book in the series leaves the reader with a great many questions after what I found to be an exhilarating, eyebrow raising finish. Definitely a story one cannot pry out of one's hands and there is so much detail within that I put off reading this book until I had the proper time to absorb it. Brilliant, fantastic story with a voice that I feel is rather unique. Easily my favorite book of the year so far.
