Kyle is in trouble, and then it gets worse... He finally goes into heat.
(This 19,000 word story is part five of a five part serial. It features a cute accountant and a dominant alpha werewolf who wants nothing more than to claim, love and cherish him forever.)

Walking through the house in just his jockstrap, Cade wondered where his little mate was off to. Scratching his abs, feeling pumped from his two-hour workout, Cade went back to the laundry room and dug his cell phone out of his bag. Calling Kyle, he headed to the bedroom.
The phone rang, Kyle not picking up, until it went to voicemail.
“Hey, babe. It’s me. I just got back from the gym and I was wondering what you were up to. I’ll see you when you get home.”
Cade hung up, throwing the phone on the bed. Feeling hot and primal, Cade went to the closet and dug out his newest purchase. A pair of leather pants he’d had custom made by a fetish and leather store in San Francisco. Holding the pants up, the leather gleaming and buttery soft, Cade imagined what Kyle’s face would look like when he came home and found Cade wearing them.
Cade’s cock hardened at the mere thought of it. He couldn’t wait. Pulling the pants on, luxuriating in the sensation of smooth leather clinging to his legs, Cade examined himself in the mirror. Muscles pumped, golden tan skin sweaty and glistening, the leather pants showing every muscle and vein, not to mention his massive cock.
He looked hot.
Flexing his chest and biceps, smirking at his reflection, Cade grabbed his bulge and adjusted his erection for maximum effect.
Yeah, that looked good. Cade grinned, feeling amazing, and headed out into the front hallway. He knew exactly which boots and gloves he’d wear with the pants, pulling them on with a smile on his face. Laces tied, Cade stretched to his full height, running his gloved hands over his bare chest, finding his nipples and pinching them. He shuddered in pleasure; grinning at how good it felt.

This book is steamy but over-the-top at the same time. The relationship between Cade and Kyle started when they were sixteen, and Cade hadn't come out of the closet yet. It's ridiculously unbelievable to see someone you love being bullied and you intended not to do anything about it even though those assholes are your best friends. It sure feels bad for everyone to let this happen.
The pornographic scenes are plenty and can be found in EVERY chapter, much less emphasize their relationship. The only thing I get from this book is sex, SEX everywhere I wanted to choke. Dom/sub things kinda worked for me sometimes, but not all of them.
The plot seems interesting enough for me to finish this book eventually. Cade is HAWT, albeit overly dominant for little poor Kyle.
Absolutely no mention in the blurb that this is dom/sub. Cade is like some kind of leather daddy werewolf who just manhandles and sexually uses poor Kyle. He is constantly pushing him to his knees and forcing him to deepthroat. When he first meets Kyle in the gym he manipulated him in order to teabag him on the weight bench. Not my thing at all. Not the sweet kind of thing that I expected from the description.
Hmmm...not quite sure that I liked this book. It just seemed a bit off to me. Not sure I believed the love between Cade and Kyle. The sex was very descriptive. Sometimes hot and sometimes it made me uncomfortable. There was also the Dom/sub type theme in it. Would I recommend? Probably not. But if you have kindle unlimited, it's "free", give it a try if it tickles your fancy.
Within the first 10 pages (or less?) I almost deleted this from my shelves or moved it to reading later.... and here's why
Cade and Kyle are mates.. we know this cus the blurb TELLS us this.. But their first run in after school at the gym is less than ideal. Cade to be blunt, is an asshole. He comes across as a dominating duche bag treating his 'mate' as a disposable hole. You just don't treat your MATE like that.. like they are less than dirt and that is MY impression.
While Cade doesn't fully redeem his shitty acting habit towards digrading like behavior with Kyle it DOES improve. Get more of an idea that he actually does CARE (major lack at the beginning feeling that particular) about Kyle.
The whole background on changing Kyle and the consequences... felt a little too, make something up to add to entertainment.. well it IS a book but still...
And the whole Mark thing? while it is eventually given its due with answers.. the answers didn't feel like they should match the actions leading up to them..
So, I'm actually surprised to have made it through enough to actually WANT to see where it was going but still, in retrospect I kind of wish I had just skipped it.
Quick overview: Kyle sees Cade in gym, lusts after him, Cade approaches Kyle, gets down and dirty with "me alpha, you my bitch" stuff, drama unfolds, end of story.
Cade and Kyle knew each other in high school but Cade was popular, Kyle was not. Kyle was "terrorized" by Cade's friends but we never really know how, except with vague remarks about putting him, swirlies and locker lock ups. Cade was also not out. He knew back then that Kyle was his mate but was not ready for the implications of being gay and having a human mate.
The book is a definite case of instalove. It moves really fast into claiming and omega territory. Kyle is a human and the implications of that are slowly brought to light. Drama with family, friends and alliances make up the rest of the book. Then at the end, it simply skips over a major part that had Cade frustrated throughout the book. Just moved right on to after the events and let the reader know that Kyle dos not change much. Major let down.
I read the first two of these, and even though I have the option of reading the third through Kindle Unlimited, I really couldn't care less what happens to either of these characters. There's not much here, and me not being interested in something I can read relatively hassle-free is saying something since I'll read just about anything you put in front of me. This story doesn't even really make sense. I mean, Cade is supposed to be an alpha and Kyle is supposedly his mate...okay, so why isn't Cade protecting his mate from an asshole beta?

CRUDE, CRUDE AND MORE CRUDE!!! Cade had no feeling what's so ever! If you want to read about a character being shoved in someone's dirty sweaty crotch and have something shoved so far down your throat you can't breathe and told to take it no matter what well then this book it for you. Me not so much, I like some feeling and chemistry between my characters.
While this book was in no means the greatest piece of literary work I have ever read, it was still an enjoyable and oh so very hot read. If you go into this book knowing it is basically just a porno on paper, it is rather enjoyable. is mainly sex with just a sprinkle of plot. Cade is an asshole and Evan is led around by the needs of his dick but like I said the sex was greeeeeeat. Well okay the sex is good if you like dom/sub books, which I do. I agree with one of the other reviews stating this book needs a BDSM tag on it. I think it is misleading that it does not.
Also, there were a number of typos that droooooove me crazy (his name is Mark, why does it keep saying Mike?!)

Quel horreur! (-_-)
Couldn't get past the first chapter. The characters jump right into a crass encounter. You can't even call it intimacy. It was gross. I thought it would be good judging by the summary. But I've now tried to read it twice and was unable to get into it.
2.5 i think if we saw more time with Cade showing his love for Kyle i would have liked it more. i understand he is a dominant and that works for Kyle but i just didnt like the way their relationship started.
this book is attractive to a very limited audience. if the first chapter isn't your cup of tea, then the rest of the book isn't either. Not my cup of tea.
This book had way too much sex and not enough story. Kyle had very little character development and that made him bland and boring. Cade was domineering and controlling. It was hard to put the chemistry together for them.
The book started very sudden and then it was sex scene after scene with very little pause for plot. Cade turns Kyle into a wolf omega and mates him, all without consent. This is glossed over quickly. Kyle forgives him too quickly for my taste. Cade never has to atone for what he’s done. Cade also does very little to explain exactly what an omega is, so that’s left to his father. I did not like how they portrayed omegas as mindless sluts unable to disobey direct commands. I also did not like how Cades friends threatened and attempted to kill Kyle repeatedly and it was brushed off as nothing. So much so that Cade gets upset with Kyle for not trusting his friends. The same guys who violently bullied and tormented Kyle all throughout high school and we are led to believe that Cade had no idea. Right, Cade realized Kyle was his mate in high school and was always watching him…but somehow he never knew about the bullying. *eye roll*
This book is very much an erotic novel with heavy BDSM vibes. So if your into that then this book is for you. I however cannot stomach another novel written by this author due to graphic unending sex and bland characters.
This is going to be a short review because I have said all that I can say about D.J. Heart's writing. When it's good, it's great and when it's bad I question its entire existence. So I've learned my lesson; do not read anything by D.J. Heart post-2018. You won't be happy. Now full disclosure I did only read about 60% of this and skimmed the rest but that's enough. I paid my dues.
As always with D.J. Heart's books, my biggest complaint is the length and the lack of editing. Remove about 50 pages of this and edit it to the gods, and I would love it. The plot was fine, the characters were decent, and the romance was cute. It just needs to be edited. I mean the overall story was still flat and low-key makes little sense but I'm starting to think that's a personal problem.
One thing that's not personal is the dialogue. Nobody talks like that. Maybe they did in 2015 but I doubt it. At the very least I never met them. Also, the stakes in this book weren't really stakes at all so I was a little bored at times. Also, Cade's pack was annoying and I had a hard time locking down who Kyle was. That's it, I'm done.
2.5 stars but I'm rounding up because skimming is not reading and the smut was still hot. Will I read the second book? Probably because I'm also a masochist. Should I? No, not at all.
P.U. This. STINKS! I really thought I was going to like this one, and I did enough to buy it past its sample read. So I wasted 5.99 and purchased the visceral novelette thinking it to be a light read of typical but well constructed m/m romance that would have some kink. Its story line began to get tiresome when our hero can't be bothered to be a hero unless you think muscles a hero make. That's all he has going for him. He is a gross ("Eat my pit" he says during a sex scene), cowardly, self centered narcissistic, blind jerk. I don't think its one of those where he develops ethics down the road either but I will have to try to finish the book someday to find out for sure. I was 75% thru when I just could not take our couple any longer. Which might I add included a wimpy with hidden backbone subby pencil pusher who loves being lied to in favor of said jerk from earlier. So I will just shelve this one thank you very much and hope this blurb helps the future discerning readers out there.
I know what I'm getting when I read a book by this author: a hot, sexy, cocky, dominant, leather-wearing alpha and a guy who loves to submit to him. Cade was this alpha, and Kyle was his mate. The book was slow to start. The guys knew each other since high school, but weren't friends. Turns out that Cade knew all along that Kyle was his mate, but he never said anything. I guess it was partly that he was a guy, and also that he was human. When Cade finally decided to date Kyle, Kyle was thrilled. He had always had the hots for Cade.
The beginning was mainly sex and the guys getting to know each other. But then it finally introduced the pack and the issues that unfolded with someone trying to kill Kyle. I will definitely read The Alpha's Incubus to see how things work out for Kyle and Cade.
Although I prefer this author's more romantic with occasional touches of the dom/sub scenes, I do believe that there's considerable creative talent that gets carried away in the more raw publications I've read. Sorry, I just don't care for those with raw, vicious bdsm themes. I thoroughly enjoyed the Evan's Alphas series, and believe that book series one of Heart's best book series. This one bordered on just this side of raunchy, but Cade's absolute love and commitment to Kyle made it sweet and hot! D. J. Heart has writing talent as long as the raunchiness, gross levels, and lewdness are kept under control. 5 stars - I loved Cade and Kyle almost as much as Chad and Peter Tank as protagonists.
Okay, not reallly... Actually they fell in love, overcame obstacles, (like the top's jerk friends, a succubus and some old-fashioned bear shifters) , to live happily ever after in tight leather pants.. I read this m/m romance years ago and always remembered the wonderful plot and great characters. Now that I found this book again I hope I never lose it. There is a lot of sex in this book which normally I could live without in my romances but I guess that's like pizza without cheese. ;)
D.J Heart has a way of making characters extremely unattractive. Oh, they're "bulging with muscles", but they're complete assholes. Well, at least the so called love interest is. Always expect a bully. You can see how easy it is to love that, affection is practically pouring off them. Oh, and that was sarcasm. The book is one whole sexual encounter being forced on Kyle. Endless shaming. You might feel sick like I did.
This book will only be enjoyable to people who already have stockholms syndrome.
Okay, I'm officially done with this author. Maybe I've read too many of her books in a row and their shortcomings have just become too frustrating. Here we have sex scenes with a little plot in between, which would be fine if the plot weren't so lame and sloppily written and I hadn't gotten so bored with the sex scenes. I'm going to find my werewolf sex elsewhere from now on.
Well, Kyle was cute and Cade was hot! Loved their romance! There was so much kink, but it was good, dirty kink. I wanted an alpha and a sub and I definitely got that with this one. Fantastic read all through.
This book is delicious. If you’re after pure smut, this is it. In its purest form, this is the best kind of smut - ridiculous, unrealistic and dirty. There is some plot and world building but the main character is the sex scenes and oh boy do they deliver. I really enjoyed this, the perfect escape.
