I went there when the world became too loud. It was a place where I learned to disappear, to make myself smaller, and to survive things I was too young to understand.
But the basement became more than four walls and a concrete floor.
It became the place where invisibility shaped me, where being unseen became familiar, and where I learned that surviving and living are not always the same thing.
THIS BOOK ISN'T ABOUT STAYING THERE.
It's about the boy I was, the man I became, and the years it took me to understand both.
It's about race and family.
Pain and resilience.
Identity and belonging.
Awareness and letting go.
And maybe, somewhere inside my story, you'll recognize a basement of your own.
This is more than a story of survival.
It is a story of understanding, becoming, and forgiveness.
