Danger lurks in a past she can’t remember... She doesn’t know what happened the night of the storm, why she was walking along the highway without ID, or why she has a fading tan line on her wedding ring finger, but a dark and terrifying presence haunts the edge of her memory. Before she can start a new life with the wonderful man who came to her rescue, she must remember what in her past might take her away from him.
Heartache lies in a past he can’t forget... Blaming himself for his late wife’s death, Geoffrey Barthlow has only begun to scrape together the pieces of his shattered life. When Jane Doe “August” falls into his world, he sees the opportunity to help her as a chance to heal his own soul. But as he finds himself falling for the beautiful mystery woman, he knows his heart is once again at risk; she has another life somewhere that she will eventually remember.
I became a fan of this author when I read Last Rights, so when this book was available, I snapped it right up.
It starts out full speed ahead with a mysterious, nearly dead woman who stumbles into the road and is hit by a car. Lucky for her the driver ends up being one heck of a good Samaritan. He brings her to the hospital, offers to pay the bills and then welcomes her into his home when it becomes clear she doesn’t know who she is, and that she has nowhere to go.
I enjoyed the characters in this story, from the nearly perfect Geoffrey, to his less than perfect brother, from our heroine, “August” to Geoffrey’s niece and grandmother. The town is equally well drawn, quaint and picturesque. It’s an interesting mix with the quiet, small town of close knit folks mixed with the mystery of August, who is certain someone tried to kill her.
I wish we hadn’t been allowed to see inside the heads of those folks from her past, at least not as much as we did. I understand that without it, it would have been much more difficult for us to understand why what happened to August, happened. But it was during those bits that my attention wandered, and I was able to put the book down. There was also one thing that happened to direct someone in her direction that was an incredibly difficult to believe coincidence that, had I not been reading this for review, may have caused me to stop reading altogether, it annoyed me that much. I’m glad I didn’t stop, though, as the ending was completely satisfying.
Additionally, the suspense is well written and the romance is sweet, touching and utterly believable. My heart broke for Geoffrey more than once and I think he was my favorite character in the book. August’s amnesia was also well written and I never had a problem believing it was authentic. The author cleverly weaves in more than one red herring, and keeps us wondering just who is the person who’s after August.
So, while this may not have been my favorite of the author’s books, it’s still very well done. I’m still so awed by her writing abilities, and I can’t wait for the next book. I’ll be first in line to pick it up.
This novel was included in a Super Romance Bundle I downloaded from Amazon. I was unfamiliar with the author, but I might read some more of her work. The author's writing is very smooth and professional; the characters were fully drawn and engaging. The novel, overall, was very engrossing; amnesia is always an interesting topic.
This book is about a woman who washes up from the ocean and then while stumbling down the road is hit by a car. Luckly for her, the man driving the car takes her to the hospital, pays for all her bills, and then when it turns out she has amenisia invites her to stay with him and his niece at his beach house. The h (August) is being stalked by someone and is aware that she is in danger but can't remember why. Amber and Geoffrey are attracted to each other but aware that she has a past they don't know about and a tan line on her left hand where a ring used to be.
I liked Geoffrey and especially that he was a little insecure because of his amazing brothers. I wish we hadn't known quite as much about the people from her past so that it could of been a little more mysterious whether she really loved her fiance. Knowing what you did about the fiance made the ending less suspenseful although there was still an interesting twist.
There were a couple of things that really bugged me although they weren't enough to make me stop reading they did pull me out of the story. The first being when Geoffrey hit August his air bags exploded but yet he jumped right back in the same vehicle and drove her to the hospital. The second one is how her fiance was able to find her, it was so unlikely to happen and such a coincidence that I had a hard time with it.
Overall, the suspense was pretty good although it could have been better. The romance was okay but I would like to have seen more from the characters on the relationship side. I also would have liked more interactions with his family members to flesh out the characters a bit more. The amnesia storyline was done well and believable.
Overall, the book was a little slow and didn't really pick up until towards the end. It was a likeable read but not one I would read again. I rounded up from 2.5 Stars.
I like a good amnesia story, and this one started out well, with a dark and stormy night, and a mysterious woman in white. The hero, Geoffrey (with a g) was an interesting shy geeky sort and I liked his little niece and his drunken brother and his feisty grandmother. I think the plot had some nice twists and turns and had surprises in store for me. Problem is - the torn between two lovers story line is one of my least favorites, and since it constituted the last 3rd of the book, my enjoyment declined, alas. This really is just a personal preference for me and I would still recommend this to most Rom Suspense readers.

I downloaded this as a free ebook from Amazon, and read it in one day. I really enjoyed this book. I liked everything about it, especially the twist-and-turns.
I immediately fell in love with Geoffrey...um, wow! "August" had me wanting to pull my hair out in frustration, but she scored points in the epilogue. Colin = scumbag.
I recommend this book. Give it try. It's a sweet contemporary with a little twist of mystery, a tad bit of action, and some steamy (but not vulgar) love scenes.
Good suspense with two nice people. One has amnesia and one has no luck with women. Blend in the Pacific Northwest, some alcoholism, some dangerous friends and relatives, and there's your suspense. A good story and a good ending (HEA)
A complete and utter bore that includes ridiculous characters and a cheesey plot. I deserve some kind of reward as I can't believe I stuck it out to the very end.
I have only given this 3star because I found that once August starts to remember I found he reactions to the things she found out unrealistic also I found the ending weak and rushed
I enjoyed this over all. With her memory gone August finds she likes her new life and fears what she can't remember. When her past find her she has a choice to make.
