Eight years ago the December Plague swept through the human population of earth. The Infected were driven mad by the disease, becoming violent and cannibalistic, killing even those closest to them without hesitation. Stopped by a miracle cure two years later, one city struggles to remain civilized.
But a new, incurable strain of the Plague has been released into the city's population. Desparate to avoid total annihilation, Nella and Frank Courtlen race to find a cure while their friends, Sevita and Christine struggle to survive and prevent the disease from spreading to the tiny, fragile colonies of humans outside the city walls.
In this particular book, I liked that they have started marrying up the storylines and characters from the others. I liked seeing how some have evolved.
I am both excited for the next one and bummed that it's over. I haven't enjoyed a series like this in a while!
I made the mistake of taking a few weeks break between this novel and the last, and I could barely remember anything. The first 3/4 in the city made sense, but it was boring, the talk of sealing off the City. And then Nella and Frank came back in for the last quarter, and other story lines from the farm, and the crazy Father. But it was hard to make everything make sense because the other novels felt so far away, and because most of the scenes didn’t have much grounding. No description. Just talking heads. I felt really unconnected from it all.
The novel was mostly about pulling together loose ends from the other novels, so maybe the next one will be better, but I’m not going to read it.
The best part of the story, which I would have loved to hear more of was Christine in the bunker with Marnie.
This book is like bad sex. It hammers away for ever but nothing really happens. Then, just when something does start to happen, it ends.
Ahhhhhhhrrrgvrgdhdhchhgggjkbfncbfjdnjdf!!
It's a decent but frustrating installment. It's basically a rehash of things we already know from the other books for 60%. The last 40% is action ramping up to...... The next fucking book I guess because it sure did end without any sort of climax. And the next book isn't out yet, goddammit.
I have read all the previous books in this set and just can not seem to stop. I will read the last one next. I have really enjoyed how each book tells about a new set of people but still follows the original set from the first book. Great writer, she really has a talent with the written word.
Book 4 deals with the re-outbreak of the plague in the city and the attempts to prevent it's spread to the outside world. Have to say it was a while since I had read book 3 so was quite difficult to get back into the story and remember the characters - of which there are quite a few. I enjoyed the book but was disappointed that a book about zombies being cured - which I felt was quite different - turned back into another book about an outbreak and how to stop it. I do think the books are very well written in the relationships of the characters and in particular the dilemma of cured vs. immunes.
You get to see everything that she has built up from the first page slowly unfold. From page one, you question what is happening, and you dig for more. More and more you dig, looking for an answer. When the plague is released, the issue is, nobody knows, so it makes it hard to see the issue arise because they are trying to keep it a secret. I wish we could have seen more from the "colony" but overall I believe that it was a good book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book was just as good as the other 3, it just took me a while to read it due to other things going on ... I haven't had a chance to read as much.. :-( I'm looking forward to Book 5...
I’ve enjoyed the Cure Books so far, but you have to read the set to find out the ending. So, Book 4 left me hanging & I will begin Book 5. OR does the plague never end?
Great read. Couldn’t put it down once I started. Everything just kept up so fast paced I couldn’t slow my mind to stop reading. Hope others enjoy it as much as I did.
This could have been a good book, but the author made Nella a stupid idiot. Seriously, every page she was in had her trying to save some infected person or go into an infected area. Knowing she is dealing with a virus that has NO cure. The bad thing is that she is doing these things regardless of the fact that if she became infected she would end up killing the person she loved most in the world or condemning him to a fate he would find worse than death. She is a complete selfish idiot. I stared the next book and unfortunately, she just got stupider! It's terribly frustrating to read something so unrealistic. I get wanting to help others, but you don't be stupid about it. Especially when you are with someone you love. Instead of looking caring and selfless, she looks like a selfish idiot. I hate using these words to describe anyone, but they are totally accurate in this case.
The world was saved once when a deadly, society destroying, apocalyptic virus was released, but what happens when a stronger version of the virus is released again, and this time there is no known cure?
Deirdre Gould's fourth installment of the After the Cure series asks that question. Riveting, gruesome, and page turning suspense is turned up a notch in Poveglia. From the perspective of characters we already know, love and hate this book satisfies every craving of loyal fans and new readers alike.
Deirdre does an amazing job of answering questions from previous story lines while introducing new twists and turns in her masterful storytelling! This book is guaranteed to induce Book Flu!
Sevita is the MVP of the series. The part where we follow her was AMAZING.
Then. Cured Colony. Boring Henry plus boring priest. Double boring. Plus douche Gray guy. Wow, talk about a terrible plot.
Christine's story was okay. A bit eh, but there wasn't much she could've done.
Finally. Nella and Frank. You see, I like Nella. But Frank is awful. He acts like she belongs to him. He acts like she's the dumb woman he has to protect. At one point, he even thinks "hey, I underestimated her, she just thought of something I wouldn't have". Please. You're nothing special, Frank. And he's vicious. Pretends to care about people and all, then kills someone and plans to kill more. AND THEY LEFT WITHOUT TRYING TO REACH CHRISTINE WTF!?!?!?
As the City falls into the grip of the new infection, a small group of people that realize what is happening work to prevent those in the city from escaping. They know pretty much everyone has already been infected. They work to prevent them from leaving the city to infect those that are left. Once the Cured that left the City find out they start working to protect their new home from the people that do escape from the City, but the methods they have to use remind them of the way they were treated.
Yay! This book was AWESOME! And I can’t wait for the next one! The December plague is back and new and improved! Which is not good lol I can’t wait to see what Christine, Marnie, Nella, and Frank do to save the day…or fail at it. At this point it could go either way muhaha! The first book, at least at this point, will be my favorite, but this one comes in a close second!
This one was not as good as the others. There was too much build up and the ending felt incomplete. I know there is going to be another book next year, but this book ended very abruptly in my opinion. I am looking forward to the conclusion though.
I have really enjoyed this book. I liked catching up with characters from the other books. This is a great zombie series. I am looking forward to the next book. I definitely will be getting it.
The next Plague has reared its ugly head. The City is no longer habitable. Everything is falling apart. Only the Farm House camp is left. What will happen to the folks out there if the Infected with the new incurable Plague get to them?
Just finished this one and impatient for the last instalment. Recently I have been reading series whose final book already released so this frustration is a new sensation!!
I have read all four books, and enjoyed every one,I'm looking forward to the next one.the people are so believable .makes you think about how you would react.
Not bad...lots of build up for what will be the next and last book. Lots of tie ins and revisiting old characters. Went quickly....I'm ready to exit Zombieland!!! "Fu*K this Clown!!
I'm happier with this 4th book in the series than I was with the last one. The story is moving along nicely - I'm really looking forward to seeing how it's all resolved.
