He's been waiting for her to stop running. She's been terrified of what might happen if she does.
Mara Stevens has never needed anyone. As a paramedic, she spends her days running toward emergencies while everyone else runs away. She knows how to keep a level head, save a life, and handle anything thrown at her. What she doesn't know how to do is let someone in... Especially Declan Williams.
A firefighter with an infuriating grin, a dangerous job, and a persistence that should be illegal, Declan has been flirting with Mara for years. They've always had chemistry. The kind that everyone notices. The kind they both pretend means absolutely nothing. Until one night changes everything.
Now Mara is determined to keep things uncomplicated. One night. No feelings. No expectations. No relationship. Declan has other plans, because he knows there's more behind Mara's walls than she's willing to admit, and he's not afraid to wait for her to figure it out. But when your job means running into burning buildings and answering calls that could change everything, you can't guarantee tomorrow.
And Mara is about to discover that the hardest thing isn't loving someone who risks their life for a living; it's trusting someone enough to let them catch you when you finally stop running.
Sometimes the heart needs a little patience. Sometimes you just have to...Wait A While.
Another fantastic book in the Cayden Cove series. Having met Mara and Declan in Burn Bright, we now delve into their "will they wont they" relationship, after years of friendship and longing from afar culminates in one night that changes everything. Both characters have their own demons to work through, and the process of all these feelings are articulated so well, you cannot help but feel you are inside the characters. The witty one liners dotted throughout the book balance the insightful words of wisdom and emotional turmoil. Wish I could rate it higher.
