Sex and the Season #3

Lady Alexandra's Lover (3)

Rate this book
Lady Alexandra MacIntyre has made up her mind. Having grown up in near poverty, she's marrying for money—a lot of money—and she’ll do anything to achieve her goal...even get herself caught in a compromising situation by her overprotective and smugly conventional—although achingly handsome—new stepbrother, Lord Evan Xavier.

Evan, the second son of the Earl of Brighton, considers Alexandra a genuine pain in his arse. She's beautiful, yes, but also headstrong and lacking in social graces and respect for authority. Unfortunately, while his father and her mother are away on their wedding trip, she is his responsibility. When she announces her plan to travel to London, he has no choice but to go along as her protector.

When the two are stranded after a carriage accident, circumstances spiral out of control, and the heat between them can’t be denied. Rescue is on its way, but Alexandra still has her own agenda…

First off, I am picky when it comes to my historical romances so when I picked up Lady Alexandra's Lover, I quickly found a new favorite historical author. Helen takes the history and creates funny, headstrong women with sexy as sin men, who you either want to hit over the head for their stubbornness or swoon at their words. I wasn't sure how I would like the stepbrother trope- especially in a historical, but not only did I not get any ew gross vibes, she wrote it so well that you couldn't help but fall in love with the characters. As a special surprise Lady Prudence added some serious spice to this book. I won't spoil the surprise but, whew, get ready to fan yourself!

Thankful to Team Wild and Helen Hardt for giving this book to me. I am loving this series so much. Each book is so addicting and very steamy. I was able to read this one in one day.

Now in the last book Evan was not happy to have Alexandra and Sophie as his new stepsisters. After more time he spends with Alexandra he notices she is one unique woman. Alexandra is still trying to marry for money but Love conquers that idea.

This one does involve some erotic writing including threesomes.

Skimmed through it mostly. I almost dnf because the first chapter to me was a complete turn off. Curiosity got the better of me so I muddled through it.

I categorize this loosely as historical. Even I, who usually forgive most historical errors, cringed at the horrible inaccuracies and use of modern day dialogue.

Plain and simple..this is an ok "quickie". The story was loaded with illogial actions and thought processes by both h& H. The repettitiveness was most irritating. The sex was meh, although the "Dear Amelia" erotica ws IMHO terrible, leaving me to cringe at the adjectives used (and you all know what i mean). These letters were for me, not entertaining. I did however somewhat enjoy the sexual play of the H & h, but was dissappointed of the lack of creativity. One would expect more from an erotica book. I have read far better sex scenes in works that were not erotica.

The plot was ok. Just a step up from bad porn. There were loose ends, unfinished thoughts and questions unanswered.

There is better erotica out there. Ones that incorporates good writing with good story and better sensuality, this one lacked all. I am surprised I finished.

PS

I hated that the "evil" father who abused the h was Scottish. It truly put me off and felt racist and stereotyped.

I have been loving this series by Helen Hardt, but this book took that love to a new level. This story was EVERYTHING for me. It was so good, I really had a hard time putting it down. Ally was feisty and loyal and compassionate, and Evan was just...sigh. He was too much for words in a good way. I'm so looking forward to reading Sophie's story.

I was not expecting this book to be a steamy as it was!

I didn’t realize when I started reading it that it was actually the third book in the series. I’m pretty sure you can read them all a standalone’s but I was a little confused at times when she was talking about previous man. And when I say previous man I meant the alter ego that writing the story within a story.

For the book you have the actual story with Alexandria and Evan. But then you also have erotica snippets from the whole story in between each chapter. What the reader didn’t know or me in this case, was that this was a continued on story that the writer had told the previous books. But the storyline between Alexandria and Evan is definitely a stand alone.

That being said I really enjoyed this book. I’m not normally and a historical Romance but I’ll definitely be checking out other works from that series!

I need to begin by stating that I never read any sort of historical romance books before. So, this was a first for me, and although I will not make this book stop me from reading future historical romances, I now know that this is not a genre I like very much...

Alexandra is annoying, I couldn't stand her, there were parts in the book where I could had punched her real hard. Evan was good, he definitely is the better character in this book but the entire plot got on my nerves.

I found myself skimming and trying to finish the book as fast as I could.

I overall rate this a 2.5, it was my first historical romance read so it was interesting to see how I would react at the end. If you like that kinda genre then you may like this book.

5 Stars.

Ally made my imagination go wild. I love her character, her strength and will, her love for her family. This story justified how she wants to get married for money without love. But for Evan she gave that up, and I love that for her, she believes on her love for Evan and that's all that matters.

Helen Hardt is a marvelous author! However, I was not a big fan off this book. Due to the many chapters dictated to the Confessions of Lady Prudence, way more than I wanted to read.

The heroine threatened the hero with rape.... that's just.... no. This one had such promise and I was so looking forward to reading Evan and Alexandra's book. They both engaged in the sexual act but because things weren't going her way, she decided to "take drastic measures."

Not The Best

The reason why I read this book is because I liked the hero’s character and was waiting for his love story. Unfortunately, the heroine is not likable. Okay, I can tolerate her exaggerated stubbornness and straightforwardness. She is too opinionated and shallow and immature and a bit loose with her favors. Her justification for aiming for a rich suitor is so she would not be poor again given her past. Never mind that her mother remarried into wealth and them having a current comfortable life. Warning: minor spoilers ahead.
She had sex with the hero (surprisingly given her moral outlook she is a virgin yet not so innocent) then the next day she allowed her rich suitor (who she is planning to entrap in a marriage) to kiss her and do some heavy petting. Her justification is that she plans to marry him even though he has not expressed even remotely that he plans to marry her. He only expressed an inclination to gain sexual favors. Then the same day, a few hours after her petting session with her rich suitor, she has sex again with the hero and just because the hero refuses to let her go to London (where she plans to give more sexual liberties to her rich suitor and finally entrap him into marriage) she threatens to tell her mother and his father that the hero raped her so she can get the hero to let her go to London. This was immediately after having consensual sex and multiple orgasms with the hero. So I stopped reading at that point which was chapter eleven. I have no idea how the heroine can have a redeeming moment after that.
The storyline is a bit shallow for me. And each chapter begins with highly erotic and graphic excerpts from a supposedly underground circulation of lewd reading materials which was not relevant in any way to the story.
This was my first one star rating for a book and I regret deciding to buy this. In fairness to the author I will try another book in the series (Sophie’s story) just to see if it can wipe out this unpleasant experience.

Was disappointed in this one after the first two in the series which were much better. I get it's a sex in something series so the immediacy of them jumping into it with someone they barely know is to be expected and I could excuse that a bit in the others. This one though I was cringing in advance because the portrayal of this character (heroine) in the other books was off-putting. She is mercenary in the extreme. Having been poor she is determined to hook a rich suited regardless of anything else. She's settled on the richest of all the rich and has shown she's willing to use sex to try and trap the guy. She knows nothing about him and has no idea if he could be pleasant to live with even though after suffering extreme abuse from her father most of her life I'd think that would be something she'd want to check for. She dismisses other people as being worthless because they are second sons without knowing anything about their actual situation; though it is common knowledge that while the entailed stuff must all go to the heir wealthy and stable family often give a decent inheritance to the other children of the family or ensure some kind of living for them.

In this book even though her mother is now married to an earl and she lives with them she doesn't seem to believe the rest of the family can have enough means to be worth anything. It's revolting. Since her father died her uncle had taken the family in an provided for them including their own townhouse to live in and dowries for both girl she hasn't lacked for anything. When her mother remarries her step-father provides dowries and whatever else they need yet she's determined to marry this super rich guy to take care of her mother and sister incase they end up poor again after the earl's demise. Even though the step-father loves her mother and is sure to have made arrangements in his will to see to her and her children if need be. She's spoiled, selfish and manipulative and I was really done when she threatened to accuse her step-brother of rape if he didn't allow her to do what she wanted. Then she never even apologized! she felt bad about it in her head but she never actually apologized to him for it. She was nasty to him most of the time and he was fed up with her most of the time. How do you get love out of that?

It felt like there there was not much of substance between the main characters and her behaviour was beyond inexcusable. I was disgusted that after she showed him so little respect he was apologizing to her for things.

This is the third book in this series. This is the story of Ally, Lily & Rose's cousin, and Evan, Rose's former suitor.😕 The storyline is a little different from the typical boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy marries girl. This one is more like parents get married, boy and girl become step brother and step sister, fall in love with each other, girl wants to marry someone else.🤔🤔🤔 Throw in a bit of extra detailed erotica and it makes for a pretty interesting read.

Alexandra wasn't looking for love. Her goal was always to marry for money so her family would never go without again. So when she finds it in a very unexpected place, she's faced with a difficult decision. What is more important to her, love or security? In my opinion it takes her too long to get her priorities straight, but she gets there eventually.

Having just witnessed his father get married for the second time to the love of his life after a long, happy marriage( though loveless on his part) to his mother, Evan is starting to realize that maybe he should wait for love instead of rushing into marriage just because he's found his " ideal" candidate. He unexpectedly falls for his new step sister Ally and now has to decide if he's going to fight for their love, or help her marry her more financially secure choice. Put this on your to read list, you won't regret it. If nothing else, you'll enjoy Prudence's letters to Amelia.😉😳🙈

Helen Hardt does it again with another phenomenal book in her Sex and the Season series! There's no question how she became a New York Times Bestseller! She knows how to keep you hooked and wanting more and more!

In Lady Alexandra's Lover, Alexandra is determined to get to London to get her current caller, Mr. Landon to marry her. Lord Evan Xavier is in charge of the estate while their parents are off on their wedding vacation. Evan agrees to accompany Alexandra and they get caught in a rainstorm. What happens next causes them to be trapped in close courters and their sparks really fly.
But what else can come between the two and can they really fall in love being so different. Not to mention they both have a pretty big secret they are hiding.

You won't want to miss this segment in this series! You will fall in love with the characters and won't want their story to stop!

wow, I have to say for historical romance and my first series, Helen Hardt convinced me with these. The only reason why I gave the 4 stars is because I didn't really like the mini erotic story in between chapters.

So in book 2( Rose in Bloom) Evan was not so happy of being Alexandra's and Sophie's step brother. In this book the tables turn for drastically. His dad and now stepmother leave on there honeymoon, Evan takes and feels that he needs to be taking care of his step sisters. The more time he spends with Alexandra's the more attraction he feels towards her. She's unique in a way that catches his attention.

Alexandra's is determined to get marry but for money, she has a dark past which is why she promised herself not live in poverty again. All that changes when she paths cross with her stepbrother.

Love conquers all.

Oh where to begin? Lady Alexandra is quite... unconventional. She's hard a hard life at the hand of her father and she has vowed never to suffer again. Both physically and in money matters. She's determined to marry rich and ensure her and her mother and sister never want for anything again. At any cost, even if it compromises her. Little does she know that the love of her life is where she least expects. Does she give in to love and settle for a modest life or does she follow her plan to be very very rich and say goodbye to the man she loves? This book is very different from the first two books in the series, erotic literature plays a big part, and physical violence towards women is a bit uncomfortable but all in all it is captivating written that keeps you glued to the page. Can't wait to read the next installment to round out the stories of these 4 cousins.

This is book 3 in the Sex and the Season series but it reads well has a stand-alone. I have not read the previous two books but I was not confused or a loss when reading this one. From the beginning I wasn't sure if this would be a straight out erotic book or if would have substance to it (a storyline). I am pleased say there is a storyline that is quite enjoyable and it exemplifies the erotic portions. The Confessions of Lady Prudence letters are off-the-page steamy, so if you don't enjoy explicit sexual scenes, this is not a book for you.

Lady Alexandra is a hard-headed, impulsive character who acts before she thinks and Evan is more the straight as an arrow, won't do any wrong kinda guy. The two of the them together is a beautiful disaster.

Need to spice up your romance, read Prudence's confessions to your other half, it's bound to get the blood flowing.

"Breakfast at a hotel? He had spent the night out? A dull thud landed in Alley's belly. She swiftly pushed it away. What did she care? He could break his fast anywhere. He was certainly no concern of hers"

Lady Alexander's Lover is the 3 book in A Sex and the Season Series. This book is EXTREMELY EROTIC....not that I mind but I know others do. I enjoyed this book more than the second book. I love how well Confessions of Lady Prudence fit into the rest of the story. Alexandra has not changed a bit since Lily & The Duke. I love her backstory and her ambition. She is a very realistic and headstrong character. I can not wait to see what Sophie's Voice has in store for me!

Third installment of Helen Hardt's historical romance novels.

Holy hell. I got caught up in the backstory. That was unexpected. I thought there could have been more interaction between Alexandra and Evan. It seemed like they were always fighting an outside influence. Which is good, I wish there was more time for just them. Nevertheless this book is a fitting addition to the Sex and the Season series. I gave read all three and Helen does an excellent job researching the era and making sure the details are just right.

I absolutely LOVE this series!! If you want to get in the mood for a night with your guy - just read the first few pages. You will be primed for a good fuck. I know I’m ready over and over again many things throughout the first 3 books! These sex scenes are VERY erotic and I LOVE it! I can’t wait for book 4! I know this series has stopped but maybe consider writing #5 now that Bridgerton is on Netflix?? Pretty please?? I KNOW I’ll be posting about all 4 books on my Facebook page! I have so many of my friends that borrow ALL yours books that I own…I think I have a good following of 15 readers all borrowing my books and they get excited when a new one lands on their hands.

Lady Alexandra is feisty and determined. She knows exactly what she wants and how she is going to get. After the remarriage of her mother to her mothers long lost love Alexandra just wants to be taken care of and away from her overbearing step brother. Her plans are foiled when she realizes her true feelings for her overbearing step brother. She is unconventional and her determined self finds them in sticky situations but they always manage to take care of themselves. I really enjoyed this book. It was detail fill and moved along quickly.

This was my first Helen Hardt novel and I am not a fan of this writing style. The characters did not feel very developed and I wonder if that is because this is the 3rd book in a series. There was also a story within a story that made no sense. It seemed like things just kind of happened very suddenly with no preamble. I did not care much about any of the characters because I didn't get to know them. The dialogue seemed stilted and the flow wasn't there for me. This was just a miss and I think this will be a one and done kind of author for me.

I don't think I had the chance to really appreciate this book as much as #1 and #2 because I have been reading a chapter here and there and then putting the book down.
It would have been nice if the story line was a tad different and not so alike to the first and second books.
I'm hoping to have more time to read the last book in the series in a straight few days.
I really enjoy Helen's writing style, it makes for an easy read.

I ended up skipping over most of the excerpts from Alexandra's writings, they just weren't to my taste. Too flowery or something. I liked Evan, but Ally was annoying. I'm not a huge stickler for historical accuracy, I'll overlook a lot if the story is otherwise well written. However, in this case the writing didn't hold up. It felt like a contemporary story that happened to have trains newly introduced, fancy dresses, and Earls.

I recieved this book for a review.
Lady Alexandra gets her way or she just does whatever she wants. It doesn't matter that she wants to marry for money, when love happens, you cant ignore it.
Evan Xavier is a gentleman but when something comes your way, you can't fight it. He doesn't know what to do but let her go, but will he forever be alone?
Will either of them admit what they want and go for it? Or will they do what they set out to do in the beginning?
