Being a ski bum in Breckenridge was supposed to be her chance to sow wild oats before becoming the next CEO of her family business. Megan didn’t count on finding a lifelong love. She’d take Nick back east with her, but he isn’t the kind of guy that would be happy in her world. Megan can’t ask him to give up paradise for the cruel complications of her family.
Nick Morgan has the woman he wants, forever. The trouble is every time he suggests they take their relationship a step further Megan balks at the idea of commitment. But after three years, Nick isn’t willing to wait any longer. When he discovers the real reason she won’t say yes, he must convince she’s worth the sacrifice.
But Megan and Nick aren’t prepared for the complications that come with inherited power. The two must decide it their love can wait out the storm.
It is a really sweet kind of romance and reminded me of The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry. Two people sacrifice in the name of love and only realize the truth of their actions at the end.
Megan and Nick have been enjoying the last three years doing as they pleased and working on the ski slopes. Megan never told Nick that she had to return to New York and take over the family business when she turns twenty-six. The books opens with the deadline rapidly approaching and her having to admit to the issue.
Megan doesn't want Nick to sacrifice what he enjoys to come with her but it breaks her heart to leave him. Nick is also conflicted and trying to find the best way to make the transition. The still act pretty young and more like college students that those in their mid-twenties.
I don't like to ruin a story for anyone so I won't go into specifics. What I will say is that these two have a strong love for each other and really want to make it work. Neither wants to hurt the other but it is difficult to sacrifice your dreams.
It is kind of an odd situation to put your child in and require them to take over the business. I was never quite sure about the mother as she seemed to have two very different sides to her personality. The sister is a fun character. I would have liked to know more about their father who left the family when they were young children and it is suggested it was due to the time their mother spent developing the business. If that is true, why would a mother require her daughter to give up the love of her life for business so she can retire when there are many others interested in the position? Why make her sacrifice her relationship?
This is the first book in the series I've read, and have enjoyed it so much, I now feel the need to read the rest of the series! I thoroughly enjoyed how it was so easy to slip into the series back stories while the falling in love with Megan and Nick's story. The author has created so much depth in her characters that it's easy to fall right into step as if you've know their own back story. I especially enjoyed the bits of tension and jealousies created by past loves and boyfriend stealing ladies.
I think what jumps out for me most was Nick's heart and compassion for Megan...never did I doubt her love for him, but he never waived while she found her true self. Even though I was brought nearly to tears a time or two while the two of them found each other and their rightful places in each other's lives, I'm so glad of the way they came together. I always enjoy HEA, but I especially enjoyed how Violet Vaugh keeps you wondering...
This book was provided as an ARC by the author, and has not affected this review which is of my own opinion.
Megan has known for years that she will have to take over her family business and so she doesn't want to move forward in her relationship with her long time boyfriend, Nick. Nick has other plans after he finds out who Megan really is and he is willing to give up his life to follow her to New York. Things don't go as planned as Megan spends more and more time away from home and it takes it toll on the lovers. Nick realizes that he can't live with how things are going so he makes a decision that leaves them both devastated. Will the lovers be able to blend their new lives with the old or will new obligations tear them apart?

This story quickly drew me in and kept me turning the pages! Violet Vaughn sure knows how to tell a story. I enjoyed the characters, they were well developed and had a lot of depth. I wasn't sure I like Megan's mother too much, but she grew on me. I also saw growth in Megan and Nick as the story progressed. A very enjoyable story that I would recommend! I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
I received an advanced reader's copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
