Sometimes life offers second chances …

Madeline Stuart, a St. Louis-based accountant, has sworn off relationships. Reeling from a breakup with her long-term boyfriend and her mother’s recent death, she’s determined to avoid personal entanglements of any kind.

Deserted by his big-city girlfriend because he’s a “country bumpkin”, Gil Amaud, a business owner in Comfort Crossing, Mississippi, has sworn off women.

Madeline’s curiosity is piqued when she finds an old letter hidden in her grandmother’s antique writing desk addressed to Josephine Amaud in Comfort Crossing. With Gil’s help, she tracks Josephine down and learns the letter is from her first beau, who disappeared suddenly many years ago.
While they search for Josephine’s lost love, both Gil and Madeline try to deny the attraction developing between them.

Can a big-city woman and a small-town businessman help to reunite the star-crossed lovers? And can they find a way to put aside their differences to build a future together in this sweet, heartwarming tale of love and forgiveness?

Maybe, just maybe, a second chance is all they really need.

Kay Correll is a USA Today bestselling author of sweet, heartwarming stories that are a cross between women’s fiction and contemporary romance. She is known for her charming small towns, quirky townsfolk, and the enduring strong friendships between the women in her books.

Kay splits her time between the Southwest coast of Florida and the Midwest of the U.S. and can often be found out and about with her camera, taking a myriad of photographs, often incorporating them into her book covers. When not lost in her writing or photography, she can be found spending time with her ever-supportive husband, knitting, or playing with her puppies - a cavalier who is too cute for his own good and a naughty but adorable Australian shepherd. Their five boys are all grown now and while she misses the rowdy boy-noise chaos, she is thoroughly enjoying her empty nest years.

The Letter: Comfort Crossing Book 3 is by Kay Correll. It is the story of long lost loves and reconciliation and acceptance of death.
Madeline Stuart jerked on the drawer of her Mother’s antique writing desk and found a letter beneath the paper liner. She was already strung out over her Mother’s death and her boss had given her some time off to take care of things and get her mind back in shape for work. When she saw the letter was written to Josephine Amaud in Comfort Crossing. She decided to take the letter and return it to its owner. Little did she dream of what she would find.
The book takes you back into the past and brings you right to the present. People who don’t want to be found are found and accepted. It definitely keeps your attention.

2.5 just didn't hold the magic for me ended up skimming it. The writing was fine, but pulling out the Ex causing trouble again was annoying. I dislike repeats in a series.

Plot - the plot was ok if a bit cheesy. It almost read like a Christian romance up until they main characters have a one night stand. The problem I had was this: I absolutely HATE books that devote half of the whole thing to characters you don't know because they are a continuance from the first books. I had no clue who these people were and there was no clear segue into their stories so I kept skipping those chapters to get back to the Maddy and Gil. Furthermore, I HATE books that don't really end. Yes, Maddy and Gil got together but 'to read more of their story and the stories of the other characters read the next book". Just finish the damn story instead of writing four or five books that just keep going and going and going. Maybe write one big book and be done. Oh I know why, so you can sell more books Kay!

The Letter (Comfort Crossing #3) by Kay Correll
A nice predictable romance story with a happy ending, with a little mystery thrown in. Nothing much memorable and has been done numerous times before. You can figure out what is going to happen next pretty much the entire book. No surprises. Likable characters, lovely setting. Great escape reading material. 3 stars.

Book 3: The Letter, Comfort Crossing Series

A mysterious letter discovered in a an inherited antique desk leads young Madeline to Comfort Crossing in hopes of finding the individual to whom the letter was written. New characters were introduced in this 3rd in a series. Lives were reunited, others were ready to take a much past due stand, and a new love was formed between city slicker, Maddy and country boy, Gil. I love these books and can easily give them a 5 star.

Small town America love story!

I enjoyed this book. Second chance at happiness should be the subtitle of this book. Everybody has another chance to be happy. The characters were well defined and Comfort Crossing seems like a nice little town to settle down. Family relations always need tweeking because everybody knows best. Great story and I am now downloading another book in the series.

The Letter

This is the first series I've read by this writer and I must say I'm throughly enjoying it. Getting to know the people and town of Comfort Crossing. These are good, clean romance books and that's why I enjoy reading them.

Wonderful love story

I really enjoyed this latest story about the folks in Comfort Crossing! I can't wait to read the next book in the series and I'm torn about which to read next, the in between novellas or book four. One thing I do know is that I'm going to read all of them!

Sweet read

A very sweet story about a lost love and more. Several romances all in the same story but all very different. Simply written but enjoyable.

3.5 rating. -- Better than average.

The Letter is book 3 in a series entitled Comfort Crossing by Kay Correll. I have read the first two and enjoyed them very much and it has brought me comfort to read a pleasant book during a difficult time with this pandemic. I needed some escapism from the reality we are living in. Three of my friends have lost their spouses recently and it has not been easy to witness from afar.

Author Correll does a great job of bringing Comfort Crossing to life with her words and characters. It is not necessary to read them in order but it is a treat to have her include some of the characters from the previous books so we get a glimpse of what is happening with them.

This, if you have read the publishers blurb, is about Madeline and Gil. Madeline has recently lost her own mother which is her only family. She inherits a desk that was her grandmothers in which she finds an old letter concealed under the lining of a drawer addressed to someone in Comfort Crossing where her grandmother lived when she was young. Maddy takes time off work to see if she can find this person whom the letter was addressed to and perhaps deliver it to her. She takes leave from her job as an accountant to do so. She needed a break as her boyfriend dumped her right when she needed him most, when her mother passed away, so she is feeling a double whammy here. At the same time a wedding is being planned for the main characters of book 2, so there is more than one story going on. The main story was good though.

I found it all interesting, and happily immersed myself into it. The plot satisfying as to the recipient of the letter and well executed. All the side characters are likable and relatable. A nice clean story with the anticipated romance and a bit of mystery, just what I needed at this time. The novels in the series are not lengthy and can be read in a day or two.

Easy reading I am happy to recommend if you can’t find yourself concentrating on anything deep at this time. I like Ms Correl’s style and expect to read more of her work.

Another sweet romance by a great author

Kay Correll has a way with words. You can see it in the descriptive scenes, hear it in the flirty conversations, and read it in the backsrories she intermingles with the current day busyness of her characters. The Letter is a perfect example. Madeline finds an old letter hidden in a desk that had been in her family for at least three generations. When she decided to take it back to the town where her grandmother lived, and where, coincidentally, the letter was from, she opened up a mystery that needed solving. With the help of some new friends, she set about discovering why a letter written so many years before to someone she had never heard of had been hidden away in the old desk that was her grandmother's. Would she be able to connect the letter to her own family?

Interesting storyline and characters filled this book with something that made me want to keep reading. Thanks to the author for a greatread!

I go back and books in a series! Like this one! Such an amazing start of Madeline findings letter. So glad her boss told her take time off since losing her mom and boyfriend in the same breath so to speak. Maddie goes searching for Josephine to see why the letter was hidden in an antique desk from her grandmother. First she takes time off work for an undisclosed amount of time!
I'm not good at reviews. I don't want to give away too many details. This is just enough for you wanting to find Josephine and the R & R Madeline needs away from the big city life.
I have so many more books to read to complete series Kay has written. Oh so many and I'm enjoying each one. Kay never disappoints her readers. I have to add having seen a disappointed by a review, if you are looking for a good book with happy, not disfunctional people and no heated sex scenes or fights this book is not for you.

Exploring small town coastal Louisiana the tale is told in the third person. Madeline encounters the best meat loaf, the best French Toast, the best fried chicken; the locals don’t get out much. A city gal from Chicago wandering around cobblestone and brick sidewalks and streets in high heels is a walking hazard and wandering the streets of New Orleans at night in the French Quarter courts disaster. The story is a romance with a soupçon of mystery thrown in. This is Cajun country we’re talking.

When the lass returns home without warning or preparation of any kind the reader embarks on what seem like an entirely new book until we get back to the main story. In quick fashion the loves of three women get restored in rather rapid timing.

The magic of Comfort Crossing is always evident. Maddy and Gil are opposites, but somehow their relationship makes sense. It's a new beginning for two people not looking for love, yet they click. Coincidences become comforting in this picturesque town near New Orleans. Activities rotate through the hardware store, the Magnolia cafe, and the bed and breakfast Sweet Tea. Characters are familiar just like expected in small town rural America.

This is one of my favorite book series. Each book can be read stand alone but there is a cross of characters from the other books which makes it fun! Set in a small town, Comfort Crossing, in Mississippi. This town is so appealing, I would love to live there. The book brings you through the lives of the many people who live there. This is one of those books that are hard to put down.

The Good Ole Days

So many regrets, things left unsaid...undone, assumptions made. Well if good things come to those who wait Comfort Crossing should build a ”Waiting Room". Lost love, new love, sustained love. What a feel good corner of the world.

No spoiler...it all works out in the end.

The Letter was a sweet second chance romance with a little bit of mystery. It is easy reading for an afternoon under a blanket. The setting of the story is centered around a small town, but a trip to New Orleans adds a little excitement to the plot. I enjoyed reading The Letter and look forward to reading more from Ms. Correll.

Enjoyable reading, looking for next book in series

When it comes to the series of Comfort Crossing books, I’m definitely hooked. This is the third book and I enjoyed it as much as I did the first two. It’s a bit of a treat to have familiar people show up in subsequent stories. The letter was definitely the center of this entire book and added so much intrigue.

Heartwarming

Such a delight to read... A letter found in her grandmother's desk leading to Maddy searching for the addressee and how they were linked. A crossroads for old love, new loves, a charming mixture of characters all intertwined to give some lovely comforting reading 🙂. Definitely want to read all the other books in the series 🙂

Delightful book about various relationships in a small town setting (Comfort Crossing). Madeline meets Gilbert during her quest of looking for the owner of a letter. Aunt Jo, Gilbert's aunt is the owner of the letter, but she never received it. Really a heart break of a love story. However, a happy ending was around the bend. Great story. Enjoy!

If you like happy endings then this is the novel for you. This new story is interwoven with updates of Cordell's characters from books 1 & 2. All of the previously discussed relationships have their happy endings. And the trip to NOLA was a bonus for me. Book 3.5 coming up.

A good romance

This story was really great with a lot of great characters. I was so happy for the elderly Josephine in the end. This was a great romance, but if your looking for squeaky clean it did have some non-graphic premarital sex.

Long Lasting Love

Love has it's ups and downs but can be long lasting. Things don't always go smoothly, especially if people don't communicate. This book is all about love. A fun book.
