The Wrong Time
Nothing had ever gone right for Rupert. His debts were now too big to handle and his income zero. He never thought ageism applied to geniuses, but he was wrong! He didn’t know which way to turn. Then after listening to a radio phone in program he comes up with a plan. As always for Rupert the plan doesn’t start well. The strangest girl, Lydia, appears; is this serendipitous or are things about to get a whole lot worse?

This is the second book I have read by this author and found both to be interesting reads.I like the way the author twists the story and then connects them together. This book has three parts and they are written the same way, with a twisted tale that is connected. Rupert Boulton,an older man, who has no job and is wondering how he is going to support himself, is the man who ties the stories together. Rupert thinks he may have an answer to his problems and that is where the story takes off on a twisted ride. I enjoy reading this author's books and think readers will enjoy the writing style and the great story lines.

Three stories, the first two are called novellas, the last a short story. Though the stories share some events in common they are very different. The first describes Rupert's his fight against ageism in the computer industry and his solution of spending a few years in prison! Apparently the Japanese do this a lot! It all backfires and the poor guy's depression just gets worse (it would wouldn't it). Very enjoyable.
The second story concerns one of the characters in Rupert's story. This is quite serious stuff, she was brought up in cult and abused physically and sexually. There are good descriptions of the abuse from a child's point of view. She grows up to hate sex but wants children and she accidently meets Rupert when she is in her forties. She has one thing Rupert didn't have and that is money. Fascinating tale.
The third story is about the hit man. A soldier doing his duty who becomes a paid killer. Pretty much a story of an evil person, and ties up Rupert's story nicely. Two worlds collide for a short moment.
