This book offers advice to fathers who seek to improve their relationship with their family. Cox begins by describing the perfect guy next door. Everything seems to be perfect for him. You are jealous but feel that you cannot possibly live up to him as a role model. So, what happens? You give up because you believe that you cannot possibly rise to that level and become lazy and unwilling to put any effort toward improving your role as a father. Grant outlines five steps to connect with the family, improve relationships, and become a hero figure.
Step One is to set a goal to eat dinner with the family every night. The second step is to hug, squeeze and show affection to every member of the family several times a day. This makes each member feel secure and will improve mental and physical health as well. The third step is to play or direct individual attention to each member of the family daily, making each feel special. Steps four and five are spiritual in nature. Grant, who is both a journalist and a minister, advises prayer and listening to God to develop family unity. The author acknowledges human failures and admits no one can be a hero all the time, but he urges fathers to use his program to start making progress toward a stronger family unit.
Recommended for families, especially dads, who wish to strengthen and grow the bonds of family unity.
