Introducing part 4 of Claire Adams' new hot Navy SEAL romance series...

Ava Klein is a college student with a dark secret. In order to protect Ava, her father has hired Brian Flynn, a former Navy SEAL with a secret of his own. Resentful of her absent father's attempt to intrude on her life, Ava searches for a way to get rid of Brian, but a frightening run-in with the past sends Ava running straight into Brian's arms and leaves her wondering if his interest in her is professional or if there is more the strong silent soldier isn't telling her.

Dominic seems to want Ava and the longer he doesn't get her the crazier he is acting. With the threat to Ava getting out of control, will Brian be able to protect Ava? Can't wait to see what happens next

Need to find a solid brick wall and pound my head against it for a little while. Hopefully it will dislodge the neutral connections in my brain that store the memory of this rather horrid piece of fiction.

WARNING: I decided to lead my internal sensor of a cliff like an unsuspecting lemming today, so there may be some questionable language and content below. But considering you're reading a review about a somewhat graphic romance serial, is probably par for the course for you. :)

I'm shocked that after 4 installments I'm able to come up with more things to comment on that are unique. Let's touch on one subject in particular for this series -- the sex.

Holy shitballs Batman, the sex scenes sound like they've been written by a 40-year-old virgin who hasn't come out for air from his parents' basement since he graduated from high school, and where his primary forms of entertainment were C-rated softcore porn coupled by a stack of Playboys that are as old as he is (which he reads just for the articles, natch). Not only are they horrifically cliché, not to mention poorly written in general, it's like the author has ZERO imagination, because from one installment to the next they are EXACTLY THE SAME!

Let's break it down shall we.

The scene will almost always start with them getting into a fight over some trivial thing (say, one will declare that the sky is blue, and the other will argue that no, is aqua). Then he will grab her hair and pull hard enough to force her head back. Then her shirt will come off for some ravishment of the breasts. Off comes the rest of the clothes and stuff happens (going to try to keep it a little PG, but needless to say, that 'stuff' reads like it was cut from the first installment of the serial and pasted into the subsequent ones, then one or two words will be changed, just to mix things up a little). Come on. If you want to call yourself an author, surely there's some form of imagination in that noggin of yours. Unless, of course, you like to have sex exactly the same way each and every time you do the nasty, then, will, it would explain A LOT.

Now, let's also touch on one other aspect of the sex. You've got a girl who's been a victim of domestic abuse here, and (allegedly) had suffered from some form of Stockholm Syndrome from the abusive ex (and on this matter, is it just me or is the violence allegedly perpetrated upon Ava escalating in immense magnitudes from one installment to the next?). You've got a fairly wussy ex Navy SEAL who is very much aware that this has happened, and yet proceeds to engage in rough sex that SHOULD send Ava spiraling into that mental zone where nobody wants to go, and (as a normal person who has suffered such abuse and has not yet sought professional help for it SHOULD go) have a complete mental breakdown. That is what a normal person would do. They would freak the fuck out. But I think we've established (from my previous reviews of this serial) that both Brain and Ava are batshit crazy and can't behave in a consistent manner (let alone the manner in which a sane, normal human being) for more than one minute at a time without throwing a hissy fit, sulking, acting hypocritical, or changing their tune about something they said or did not 2 paragraphs previous.

Onwards and upwards to part 5 of this travesty masquerading as fiction...

So far this book has been pretty unoriginal. Ava is giving Brian a hard time. Trying to run away from him or thwart him at every turn. Brian stays calm even though you know he wants to freak out on this spoiled brat. She has little regard for anyone else or even for her own safety. Pretty tame story so far.
This is a book were you buy the pieces of the book. Its ok. Nothing to exciting. The main girl is very immature and its kind of annoying.

Ava is a spoiled little rich girl. Shes away at college and meets a boy. He turns into a controlling psychopath. She tries to leave him and he becomes violent.

Ava's father is a wealthy man. He wants to protect his daughter, so he hires an ex navy man to be her bodyguard. Ava takes offense to that. Her father has really never been in her life....shipping her off to boarding schools and standing her up all the time. He throws money at her to try to make up for his lack of being a father. Ava wants to take care of herself. He father wont listen to reason.

In walks hot, sexy, Brian. Not your typical bodyguard. He watches every move Ava makes, but is he doing it to protect her, or is it something more??? We all know the answer to that question. Shes hot....hes hot....sparks are gonna fly.

Safety over love or love over safety? Ava is falling for Brian but is it hero worship or the real deal? An ex SEAL, Brian's job is to protect Ava from her abusive ex boyfriend. Does he succeed or make the situation worse? Claire Adams delved into Brian's past and I loved Ava's concern for him. I can't wait until the next book.

Protector #4

Wow, crazy, psychotic ex boyfriend involved, and he is determined no one else will have what's his, scary! Loving this story, also now what will he do, as he realizes her feels are more than Brian is just there to protect her, awesome story! Then mixed with Brian's PTSD, from military what next, look out, ready for next book.
