Wow just wow, blown away by an incredible read. Fell heads over heels with Ian & Mindy theirs is a story to remember. I loved how the author showed them broken, neither one fell for the other to quickly, their relationship was a steady build, one they had to work for. And there was so much beauty in it! Excellent story and one hell of a good read, recommended to all MC lovers!

4.5 Rough & Raw yet profound and beautiful Stars!!

Burn is part of a series and it definitely needs to be read as a series to get the whole story as it is an intrinsic layered web of information that would be missed if read only as a standalone.

It feels like forever that I have been waiting for this book, to find out how Mindy handles the aftermath of one of the most horrific nights.

~ Everything in me hurts, both physically and emotionally and it never gets better-except when Ian is around. Only then do I feel less dirty, and broken, and hopeless. ~

~ She's strong and defiant and so goddamn broken. It's like she was made for me. ~

Gah! Poor Mindy. So broken. However being near Ian, it helps. Helps more than she thought possible. But Ian has his own demons. So many demons that he wants more for Mindy. He doesn't want her near his darkness.

Ian's battle with himself is heartfelt and torturing. But his need to take care of her wins out.

"I gave you a chance to be responsible for yourself, but twice now you've proven to me that you can't handle it. From now on, I make your decisions for you."

"I've never tried, but I could be gentle with you. I could be so much because of you-for you."

~ I stay where I am though everything in me begs to reach out for her, to hold her and keep her safe. I'll protect her body and her heart. I'll keep every part of her safe even if I have to kill again to do it. ~

~ I won't be another thing she has to get over. I'm going to be the thing that pieces her back together. ~

Ian puts up a good fight but loses, while at the same time Mindy makes great strides to heal and move forward, knowing that she will never be the same ever again.

"Not a gift you meant to give, but her life is because of you."

"More than likes you. Don't take it for granted and don't fuck it up. He chose you and I respect that, but make no mistake about it, babe. You do him dirty and you'll answer to me."

~ My father calls him a killer, Holly calls him dangerous, and Nic says he's disturbed; but to me he's just Ian. ~

"I'm a twenty-four old widowed junkie. And in case you fucking forgot, my pussy is tainted because a couple of fucking animals raped me."

~ Worse than being a fucking victim is being a fucking statistic. ~

Gah! These two are so beautiful together with their broken selves. They both may be broken but together they balance out the good and the bad.

"I always mean what I say, I just don't always mean to say it."

"The only thing that makes me better is you,"

"You're strong, beautiful. You're pretty fucked up, too."

It's not enough that they are fighting for each other but they still have the whole shit storm of the Italian mob to contend with as well as the reason why Mindy got so broken.

"Gonna piss him off. The man's an artist when he's pissed."

"Don't you see? This helps me. You told me once I might benefit from therapy," I say. A soft, amused laugh escapes me. "I didn't really mean torture porn," he says, fighting off his own smile."

"I did things I wish I could forget. If you knew the things I've done, you wouldn't worry about corrupting me. You'd know I came to you that way. You're so consumed with the idea that I won't be able to handle your darkness, but what about mine?"

"I did things I wish I could forget. If you knew the things I've done, you wouldn't worry about corrupting me. You'd know I came to you that way. You're so consumed with the idea that I won't be able to handle your darkness, but what about mine?"

"Proud of you, brother. Don't think I ever told you, but your woman and I had words some months back. She's good people. I have no doubt that crazy bitch is gonna protect your six."

I absolutely love this series and especially Ian and Mindy. The growth these two have to go through is raw and rough yet still profound and beautiful. I loved JC Emery's way of portraying Mindy & Ian's brokenness without them coming across as weak, frustrating, or annoying. Instead you felt their pain and were rooting for them the whole time to find their light within their darkness. There is still so much left open in this series that I can't wait to find out how it all plays out.

As far as love stories go, Burn was fucking amazing. The Ian-Mindy pair may have just obliterated every other Bayonet Scars couple to win the Best Couple Ever title. And all because these two were just perfect together.

Every book in the Bayonet Scars series has eluded to Ian being dark. Dangerous. Unstable. And obviously, in true J.C. Emery fashion, it’s done so in a way to keep Ian in the reader’s mind as the guy who is obviously more menacing than the rest of the club. Then Rev happened, especially the bit at the end, when Holly finds herself in a very, very precarious place and the only one who helps her is Ian. In those awful moments, and in the terrible aftermath, Ian helps Holly again—in the way only he can. His gentle side is the only thing that the reader is shown, inspite of all the warnings I spoke about above.

And to me, that was the only thing I knew Ian to be. Gentle, caring, and strong under fire. Obviously, he was a part of the Forsaken MC and that meant that he was a thief, and a criminal, and an outlaw, and possibly a murderer. But as a reader, I only saw his gentle side. And it was pretty much the same in Burn. Except when it came to Mindy Mercer. When it came to Mindy, Ian was protective, fierce, and heart-breakingly kind.

Mindy features in Rev as Holly’s cousin and best friend. Everyone in town knows her as the sweet girl of a town cop. But no one knows that Mindy fights everyday to battle her addictions. And after the horrific incident that changed her life, everyone sees her as a victim. Everyone but Ian Bucley. No, Ian sees more in her.

Unlike every other couple in the series, Ian and Mindy’s relationship isn’t based on raunchy sex and an attraction that threatens to destroy them. At least, not in the beginning. No, their relationship is a slow-burning fire, riddled with their insecurities and fear of being consumed by each other. Ian is hesitant of bringing sweet, sweet Mindy into his ever-threatening world. Mindy is terrified that he will never love her as she does him.

I’ll give it to the author—Burn must have been a tricky book to write, what with Ian’s dark nature brimming just underneath his seemingly calm nature, and Mindy dealing with PTSD while also battling her constant craving for drugs. It was intense and fast-paced and thrilling to read. I couldn’t put the book down, not for a second, and it was so damned worth it. This book is my MOST RECOMMENDED book of the lot and if you’re looking for a biker dude with heart, this is the book for you!

What a read!!!

Mindy Mercer's life was shattered one horrific night. This is not the first tragedy in her life but it may be the one that breaks her and she may not come back from. She deals with life one hour at a time. She questions everyone around her and every decision she makes. Everyone wants to help her but she only wants one persons help, Ian. She only hangs on for him.
Ian Buckley is the treasurer for the Forsaken Motorcycle Club. He was raised in the mc life after his ma married the club's president. Ian loved the violence he doled out in the name of the club. He loves his blood family and his mc family. He will do what it takes to protect all of them. Ian will never be mistaken for prince charming. He doesn't do soft and sweet only dominant. He likes pain with his pleasure. These days all his thoughts are full of one broken woman, Mindy.
Ian and Mindy are not your happily ever after types. They both have ghost in their past. Ian burns for Mindy but knows she deserves the happily ever after and he is definitely not that. Mindy wants Ian with her. He is her safe. She knows she can not be the woman to keep him satisfied.
The Forsaken Motorcycle Club is still enthralled in the battle with the Carlo Mancusso family. The layers of this war is so intriguing as new facts are exposed. It holds your attention. This is one of the grittier sides of the book and is full of suspense.
I really enjoyed this book. Never have two characters been so right for each other even though they are not perfect. So if you like hot alpha bikers with lots of mayhem going on with a hard-ass hero and a crazy damaged heroine that is getting stronger this is your book. That made it perfect for me. Great job JC Emery and thank you for your hard work.

The best one of the series!

We all knew that Ian and Mindy's story was gonna be the darker one of the series. The horror that Mindy suffered was hard to take and truly broke her. Ian was the one who brought her back to life even though he was just as damaged. He was her lifeline; the one to grab her out of her own deep, dark mind. Mixing pleasure with pain, the two used a bit of kink to give each other what they may have needed. Little by little, whether they realized it or not, Ian and Mindy wound up healing themselves while saving the other. When that happened—it was magnificent. Make no mistake, their stories were raw and their revenge brutal. I loved these two—their ending was everything it should have been. Again, we got to enjoy the insane cast of characters from the previous books. JC really did a brilliant job painting a detailed picture—from the heart-wrenching onset to the violent consequences—of what happens when one of Forsaken MC's own have been wronged. Another outstanding read by JC Emery.

**JOSIE'S REVIEW**

Please make sure you read all the Bayonet Scars books prior to this review, it might have some spoilers and you will want to have Mindy’s back story.

I loved this book! Hands down Burn is the best one to date. If you have kept up with this series you know then you know that this story will be a very powerful, dark, and intense read. The story and characters will grip at your heart and have you completely engulfed with in the story. I am a huge fan of this author and I have read all of her work. She has a way of writing stories where I find myself completely connected with the characters and the words that she uses to describe scenes and events, just completely memorizes me. I feel as though I am right there in the story. Ian and Mindy’s story is not an easy one, it is filled with a lot of pain, anguish, blood, violence and self-pain. Not only is this Ian and Mindy’s heavy and dark road to romance but also the continuation of the Mancuso’s reign of terror.

Mindy’s character and story is one that will stay with me forever. My heart literally broke for her so many times. She was left completely broken and destroyed by a horrific attack. It is hard for her to live day to day with the horrible and graphic memories. Mindy cannot stand to be touched. She has a hard time eating, and even being around people but with Ian it is different. Mindy sees and feels something in Ian. He makes her feel safe. I loved watching her grow throughout the story. She becomes this strong woman who comes to terms with what happened to her. She is determined not to be a VICTIM but a SURVIVOR.

Ian, Ian, Ian – where do I begin with him. Ian is a total badass, hands down. After Mindy’s attack there was something that called to him to protect her. He needed to be there for her. He vowed that he would eliminate anyone or anything that would hurt her or cause her any grief. Ian’s life has not been an easy one. He carries the scar of an attack from the head of the Mancuso family and lives with dark and dangerous demons. He fights his attraction to Mindy because he knows what he is capable of. And let me say he puts up a good fight. I was not prepared for what was revealed. I broke for this young boy and for the man that he is today. He lives his life a certain way and he makes no excuses for it. His life in the club and what he does for Forsaken is something many cannot handle. Ian is a total alpha and dominant man when it comes to Mindy. I mean seriously even when he put distance between them he had this sense of power and control over her – it was so hot!!!

I really loved how deep and intense Ian and Mindy’s connection was and how much they in common. Mindy accepts the darkness in Ian because she too has darkness inside of her and together things are beautiful and full of promise. The danger of the Mancuso family is rearing its ugly head and the members of the Forsaken have the ultimate battle on their hands. The men in the Forsaken will do anything to keep their women safe and the club intact, but is it enough? The ultimate battle is fast approaching, with traitors in their midst will the members of the Forsaken survive? Can Ian and Mindy make peace with this darkness and find light? This is one book you don’t want to miss out.

I've waited for their story after what happened with Mindy. No woman deserve what happened to her, can't expect anyone to survive it. Mindy is a fighter and a survivor and I admire her for it. I love how the author showed how she fought her demons and Ian .

Like Mindy, Ian is a survivor not just from what Mancuso did to his face but also from what he endured in the past.

Both may not seem to be good for each other but still both of them showed that they both belong together.

Thumbs up 👍

Favorite Quote/Line from the book:

“Love is never more painful than when it can kill you.”

“I used to worry that I’d never find the words to tell you what your love and loyalty means to me, but then I remembered something my pop said to my ma when I was a kid. He told her he knew she’d never believe a word that came out of his mouth, so instead of trying to convince her that he was serious, he’s spent every day of their lives walking through fire for her. I know of no better way to tell you how serious I am about what we got.”

“I love you, Ian. I love every piece of you, even the ones you hate. I haven’t talked about it, but I chose this date because of something you taught me. You taught me that the pain can only win if we let it. You’re the only reason I’m here today. I thought my damage would kill me. It was swallowing me whole. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the worst day of my life.”

I love Ryan but Ian’s was the story I wanted the most! I want to be in a Ryan and Ian sandwich – the cheese to their pickle!

This book starts 14 months to the Mancusso downfall….so close now! I love this countdown, builds the anticipation…its going to be explosive!

Mindy has been through 1 hell of an ordeal and is totally broken. Ian, we know, is also a bit broken too…we think we know why…but there is more. (BTW his sinister smiles make my undies want to fall off!!) It seems that this emotionally detached man will do anything for Mindy. ‘Its acceptance. You are who you are because of your scars.’

Reading this book is like someone clenching your heart over and over – Mindy had me wanting to sob. Then the realization hits Ian that he loves her – now that broke me…the guy who lives with darkness every day, feels….waaaaaah x 100!

This is, without a doubt, one of the best MC series out there – I so do not want it to end!

If there was one brother that has been a mystery, it's Ian. I was excited that he was finally getting a book, because I wanted to find out just how he felt about all the things that have gone down with the club since the Mancuso mess. Ian's family has been rocked to it's core, but Mancuso definitely left his mark on Ian.

BURN starts 14 months prior to Mancuso's fall, where we discover Ian has been trying to help a very broken Mindy try to move past her kidnapping and rape. For a man that's quite harsh with everyone else, it was surprising to see just how gentle he could be with Mindy. And as she embraced her anger, how much the real Ian came out.

Ian's not an easy man. He's tormented by what happened with his mother and Mancuso, vowing to kill the man and ease his mother's pain. He purposefully keeps himself away from his brother and sister, Alex and Michael, mainly because of who their father was. You could tell he wanted more, especially with Alex, but he wasn't sure how to separate them from their father...regardless of the fact they shared a mother. The only time he seems to ease up a bit is with Mindy. He makes her feel safe. She accepts him for who he is and what he does (even if that drives him crazy).

Mindy finds a different version of herself with Ian. She's terrified of everything when BURN opens, but she slowly starts to reclaim her life. It's hard for her, but Ian gives her something to start fighting for. She proves to herself and to everyone else just how strong she is. And proves to Ian, that despite his darkness they belong together.

I enjoyed BURN, but I wanted more dialogue between the characters. We spent a lot of time in Mindy's head and to a lesser extent, Ian's. As great as it was to understand their inner turmoil, it felt like we were missing something. I needed the interaction and to read those conversations, rather than knowing they were interacting with someone or a situation but live inside the characters head. Even with that, JC Emery does a great job over moving the over-arching Mancuso theme forward. I look forward to the day we get to that downfall.

The crime was intense, the intimacy was even more so.

This story did not play out like how I expected it to. It's on a whole other level.

The tortured soul sob story is not what this is. This is more of a tortured soul comeback.

Hitting real issues fiercely and accepting that these things do happen, to anybody, and not letting the bad and evil things effect life negatively.

The story is of Ian and Mindy, two people with their own problems, issues, darkness or whatever you want to call it. Some of their baggage was brought on by an unfortunate situation, therefore, bringing them two together in the first place.

The situations the main characters were put in made them seem more in the background, especially at times when either main character was having to interact with a group of other people, regardless of whether it was with family or a friend. This made the interactions between Ian and Mindy seem as if they were literally in their own world, more intimate as well as more acknowledged when talking with another character in the story. It's not just useless dialogue or a fill-in scene that isn't significant to the plot which also shows the author's talent in not wasting a single word, so brownie points for that, JC.

I didn't quite get the revenge concept of the story. I mean, I understood the reasons why the characters felt the way they felt, but I didn't really see the point the author was trying to make. All I got was that Ian and Mindy needed to cope and accept all that went down, together, and the fact that their relationship was going to happen but needed to just take off from a good starting point. Unless the revenge was all about the fire scene, then I guess I did get it. Yes, because that would have been the 'good starting point' for Mindy and Ian and for finally seeing things the way each other saw it, and being accepting of everything. Bamn!

Overall, I ABSOLUTELY enjoyed reading the 5th installment of the Bayonet Scars series. There was so much intensity with Ian and Mindy. Their connection with one another was so beyond electric, they have shocked each other many times, but in the end, all that kinetic energy got them where they needed to be.

I just knew I was going to love Ian's story. There was always a mystery about him because of his constant brooding and his silent demeanor. I think his and Mindy's story is my favorite, so far. The inner battles with their darkness and devotion for each other made for a great romance as well as a story of strength after overcoming a traumatic event.

We met Mindy, briefly, in Holly and Grady's story in Rev, book 4 in the Bayonet Scars series. Poor Mindy was in a situation where she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got caught in the crosshairs of the beef between the Forsaken and the Mancuso crime family. Because of this and a case of mistaken identify, she had to endure the most horrific experience anyone could experience.

Months later, she's still recovering and is still severely traumatized. Her only saving grace is Ian. He's been a constant in her life since it happened and has taken it upon himself to protect her. He didn't expect for that to develop into feelings he wasn't ready to have.

Ian's character hasn't changed from when I started this series. He's still the quiet/silent beast that he's perceived as. He's scary in that he is willing to do the dirtiest jobs in the club. He's intelligent and caring. He loves his family but isn't one to show affection. The trauma he went through as a young boy scarred him not only on the outside but on the inside as well; which is why he fights to accept his feelings for Mindy. Determined to help make her better so she can find someone better than him but not truly willing to let her go; he's torn.

Mindy showed great strength in how she fought to get her independence back, to overcome the effects she's still dealing with, as well as the nightmares and memories of the men who damaged her.

Again, JC Emery brings an amazing story of love, survival, strength and still manages to keep the story from feeling to dark with a dash of wit. Burn has definitely burned a permanent spot onto my top faves list and continues the great saga that is the Bayonet Scars.

I kept turning the page. Like no way could the epilogue be over. No way Jc won't give us more, right? There was something so dark and irresistible about Ian, that I just wanted more. I couldn't get enough. And Melinda, I mean, her struggles, her strength, her ability to overcome it all. You know that each Forsaken man has to have a strong woman. They just have to. You never realize how strong of a woman Ian needs until you hear what he went through. Until Melinda stands beside him.

"My father calls him a killer, Holly calls him dangerous, and Nic calls him disturbed; but to me he's just Ian."

That line quite simply defines our whole story. It defines our characters. It defines how they look past all the pain and darkness and just see each other. And that line, may simple be one of the best placed lines of any book I've read all year. The perfect line, the perfect time, the perfect spot, or a perfect storyline.

Jc went dark with this story. We've learned what horrific things Melinda lived through in previous books. And in this one, we get to see her claw her way through the darkness of that hell to find some light on the outside. The light is in the face of a big, broody, overprotective, Ian. I loved reading their interactions. As I said before, I didn't want it to end. It's surprising, somewhat, for me to say that because I usually need more of the steamy scenes in my books. But this one, I didn't need more. It was perfect. Everything about this storyline, to how it was written, to how Jc executed it, was perfect. If there was more, I feel like it would have taken away from our two main characters and how they came out of the darkness, or half way out, to stand side by side.

I do kind of wish Ian would have finally accepted everything and they would've been official Sooner, but on the other hand, I didn't want to lose any of the story. So I guess next time, JC, write a longer book.

There are no words for what Mindy went through, and the thought alone makes me nauseous. I’m not even going to pretend to know what it’s like, only that I can barely comprehend what it must take to overcome that. Just the strength that is needed to get through every day is admirable.

Though she draws a lot of that strength from Ian. I wouldn’t necessarily call him a saviour, but he’s one of the few people Mindy fully trusts. He’s certainly no angel, on the contrary, though that darker side of him is what she needs.

Ian is there for Mindy, though he believes he’s no good for her. His darkness is not suited for Mindy, he thinks she needs someone quite the opposite of him. Someone who is goodness and can bring her light. It’s a struggle to convince him otherwise. He makes her no longer fear the darkness inside her, makes her see that she has control over it, and that’s why she needs him.

It’s a lot of going back and forward. Mindy is pretty single-minded when it comes to Ian, and she’s not holding back. While Ian needs some more time to come to terms with what Mindy needs. A difficult path for both of them.

Things are definitely a lot intenser than before, and has just the right amount of darkness and doom. Two compelling main characters that will tug at your heartstrings. A story of two, in their own way, broken people, finding each other through love and hope.

I enjoy the Forsaken series, and Burn was no different. We met Mindy earlier throughout the series, and she suffered something no one should have to. She is struggling, and Ian seems to be the only one who can help her. Ian is the ultimate bad boy who has gone through his own shared of troubles, and he is there to pick up the pieces for Mindy. It was amazing to see the way this strong man protected her despite all objections, including Mindy’s own, and there ride was one of a kind. I sincerely hope this is not the end, because there is no way I can let go of these characters. There are simply amazing.

Despite how much I liked this story it’s a four star for a couple of reasons. First, there is this awkward scene between Ian and Mindy that was just too much, especially given the fact she kind of forces him to do something he doesn’t want to do so she could “heal.” Also there were a couple of unanswered questions at the end Like I said, I enjoyed the story, but there were a couple of things I felt like left me hanging!

I felt like I had been waiting for years to read this book - I wanted Mindy and Ian's story so bad and it was everything I wanted it be. My heart broke for Mindy when her assault happened and I just thought how is she going to move on from this. I loved that J.C Emery did not make light of what happened and really showed the effects of what this did to her - this couple were made for each other - they both had a darkness in them that totally connected them to each other.

Tell me who I belong to Melinda". His lips ghost over the corner of my mouth, and my heart is beating so fast in response that I'm worried I might pass out. "You belong to me" I whisper

This was by far my favorite book in the series - J.C Emery writes with so much emotion that the connection takes your breathe away. She took her time with Ian and Mindy and did not rush the story which I appreciate.

I liked seeing the caring side of Ian, “IT’S OKAY, YOU’RE okay.” My words are meant to reassure her, but I’m doing a ***t job of it. It doesn’t feel okay and with the way she’s sobbing in my arms right now, she doesn’t feel like she’s going to be okay, either." There are times Ian will move Heaven and Earth to get his girl what she wants, “won’t be getting a puppy. Our dogs come fully trained and old enough to stay focused on the job at hand. But yeah, my girl likes dogs, we’ll get her a dog.” I love this series and it's characters I'm always eager to get the next book to see what they're up too.

Fans have waited for Ian's story and it doesn't disappoint. This story picks up in the past and moves towards the present as two damaged people help each other deal with the darkness inside of them. POV alternates and a lot of time in spent in each of their heads. Headway is made towards the arc while some subplots are resolved. The "romance" is more subdued then the last couple of books but given the subject matter, it's to be expected.

First: I think the cover for BURN may just be my favorite... Not sure why, I just really like it.

Second: I've loved Ian from the moment we met him. So getting his story? I was so ecstatic. This was, hands down, my favorite BAYONET SCARS story.

In BURN, we get to watch Mindy fight for herself. She's been sober of drugs and alcohol for 4-plus years, but after the events in REV, life becomes a daily battle. I have a note in REV, when Ian is talking Holly through a phone call, about how I could not wait for Ian to get his story. Of all the men in Forsaken, I've always felt that Ian was the most soft-spoken, the most gentle. Don't get me wrong, the boy has fight in him -- with his Ma and Pop, and Ryan at his side, he's had no choice but to grow up hard -- but he's definitely the most gentle of the group.

He doesn't want to like Alex, but because he grew up celebrating her and Michael's birthday, he watched his Ma cry over the two of them and now he sees how much Ryan loves her... he accepts her -- and because as much as he won't admit it, it's ingrained in him, to accept those his family loves. Granted, he has a difficult time with the whole Ryan's his brother, Alex is his sister, and they're together thing, but when you break it down and don't look so closely, it's not so bad.

Anyway. Ian has been in Mindy's corner since at least that disastrous day when men took her and Holly, and raped Mindy thinking she was Nic. Every day, he has sat with Mindy and has been simply there for her. But when he stops coming daily, Mindy has her moments of panic.

Ian will stop short of nothing to keep Mindy safe, sober, and happy. He proves again and again that he's there for her, even when she asks things of him that he'd rather not do.

Don't tell him I told you, but Ian is incredibly sweet -- even when he's pissed and pulling her full name. No, he doesn't want Mindy to see the dark side of him; he doesn't want her to watch him and the boys when they seek revenge, he wants to shield her from the intricacies of the club -- she is, after all, the daughter of law and only recently became part of club 'life'. Another little part in what I loved about him was that while she wasn't his Old Lady, she wasn't even seeing him other than for the occasional cup of morning coffee, he protected her as if she were. He refuses to let her relapse and has the men of Forsaken in his corner, telling him if and when she does. He also refuses to be the catalyst in her breaking her sobriety. He greets her always with a kiss on the forehead (and eventually leaves her with a kiss on the lips); he quiets her fears and is always willing to wrap her in his arms.

But Mindy's demons started well before the incident less than a year prior; it was only the most recent events that made her more of a shell. She's adaptable, something that hurts Ian. The one thing Mindy hasn't done, though, is properly grieve for the events that transpired and when she does?

...the woman breaks down and then some. It's Ian, though, who's there to pick up her pieces, it's Ian to comfort her, and it's Ian who learns that maybe his Mindy is a little stronger than he gives her credit for.

You can't fault the man for wanting to keep Mindy safe and guarded. And while he's had an inkling toward him loving her for quite some time, when he finally completely accepts it? When his heart breaks for things Mindy wants and can't have? When he proves he'd do absolutely anything for this woman? Can't help but love him more.

“The pain in my chest gets so bad that it feels like my bike got dropped on my f@cking ribs. I didn’t know it could hurt this bad, had no f@cking clue how painful it is to realize how much you love someone knowing you’re not good for them.”

5 huge stars!! This was such a great book in the series!! I loved this series before this book and I love it even more now!!!

Tragedy cuts deep. Revenge burns deeper.

The blood of their enemies coats the leather of their cuts and a trail of bodies lie in their wake, but the Forsaken Motorcycle Club isn't done yet. Carlo Mancuso still needs to pay for his sins. Nobody knows that more than Ian Buckley, the Treasurer for Forsaken.

Ian prefers his pleasure mixed with pain and he's only ever at peace when he's doling out justice. Convinced that he's too unstable and sadistic to take an old lady, he keeps his trysts, like all of his relationships, brief and anonymous. But with his club at war, and the stakes being so personal, Ian's feeling the events around him more deeply than he expects.

Mindy Mercer is the sweet daughter of Fort Bragg’s most respectable cop. At least that’s how the town sees her. Very few people know the Mindy who hides her tracks and battles her cravings by lying to everyone around her. She thinks she has control of her addiction until she suffers an attack that leaves her searching for a way out of her own personal hell.

Mindy has never been more desperately in need of a savior and Ian has never seen a more beautifully destroyed creature in his life. Their attraction is intense, but their damage is extreme. Some scars never heal, and some people never get better.

Love is never more painful than when it can kill you.

Mindy is the sweet, innocent daughter of Fort Bragg’s most well known cop, that’s what she wants everyone to believe. But little does anyone know, she’s battling an addiction that she hides from everyone. She thinks she can control it until she has an attack. Ian like danger and he’s not happy unless he’s in pain. He doesn’t think he’s well enough to take on a girlfriend, so he runs through girls like a girl runs through underwear. Then he meets Mindy and she can’t believe he’s come into her life at the right time. But will love be enough to save them both??

Burn is book #5 in the Bayonet Scars series, I was lucky enough to be gifted an ARC of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

This book is not a standalone, it won’t make sense if you haven’t read the rest of the series’ first. But the series is great so go oneclick the first four books and have a biker fest lol.

I have enjoyed all books in this series but Burn is by far the best!!!

Ian and Mindy’s story is darker and grittier and much more extreme than its predecessors, this story took us down a much more brutal and emotionally taking journey and I loved it.

Neither Mindy nor Ian are characters that I would describe as likeable, but then this story isn’t ‘nice’ and I didn’t need to ‘like’ the characters. I can’t relate to them but I can be consumed by them and their story.

After what Mindy suffered I think it’s completely expected that she’s a mess, but I absolutely love that she found souls in another broken soul. This book is a real journey for Mindy she changes and although I don’t thinks she comes to terms with what has happened to her I think she manages to find a way to deal with her trauma.

When Mindy embraces her dark side I pretty much cheered her on, and that scene in the bathroom!!! Oh My God as horrific as it was I was still standing judge and jury and will Mindy to find her darkness.

This one of those books that you shouldn’t really like, it has such a lot of taboo subjects yet JC Emery manages to twist them into this love story and you end up feeling thankful that they are together in their twisted world.

Ian is one seriously complex character, despite his bloodlust and general psycho vibe I found him incredibly appealing. I’m not sure of it’s the bad boy thing or maybe it’s that he is a serious ALPHA and a bit of a kinky dom.

Ian…. Yes Sir!!!

This book totally worked for me, I missed the underlying Mancuso drama in this book but honestly I was happy for the drama to be overshadowed by a dark love story.

Burn gets 4.5 stars from me.

I will admit I only found the Bayonet Scars series a few months ago. Probably closer to the beginning of this year. I read the whole boxed set probably in 2 whole days. I will say this before I start my review. This is probably one of the darker, gitter series in any genre that I have read. I will say that Burn doesn't disappoint in the dark and gritty in this series. I will say this, this book is not really a standalone book. I think if you try and read it as a standalone you might be confused with what's happening.

Where to start with my review? Let's start with Mindy. Oh Mindy, my heart broke for Mindy. She has been through so much and now she's trying to find a way to put herself back together. I have to say Mindy is probably one of the strongest characters.

I really liked Ian in this book. He has his own demons sitting on his shoulders. But you get to see a softer side of him with Mindy. And even though you see him fighting his attraction to her, you can see how much he cares about her.

Like I said at the beginning of this review this series is probably one of the darker and grittier series I have read in a while. I thought it was a good read. It's been a little bit since I read the other books, so it took a few minutes for me to remember what was going on in the series. But I quickly remembered and got into it.

I'm giving this book 4 out of 5 stars and can't wait for the next one.

We finally get to see more of the mysterious and dark brother Ian. He has issues. One that would make any normal girl run and never looks back. He deserves to be happy but he tries to protect the one girl who has taken up inside of his heart by keeping her just far enough in reach. But never giving more until she decides to make it her mission to prove that Ian is hers just as much as she is his.

Mindy is alive. She has survived a nightmare only to have to chance the bad dreams away during the day. She wants to be a better person. She wants Ian to look at her like she knows he wants too. But she fights within herself, why would he want a damaged girl?

If ever two people belonged together, it is Ian and Mindy. They both have dark sides but they also bring out the light in each other. This story will show you just how far you would go for the person you love.

As life within the club continues, Ian and Mindy learn to deal with each other daily. But there is still a rat among the Forsaken MC. One of their own. Will there be more blood shed before they smell him out?

This series has been captivating from book 1 and continues to be. If you haven’t, you should totally start from the beginning. I look forward to read more of the Forsaken MC.

I love this entire series. Burn is no exception! It was wonderful. My only complaint is that it wasn't longer. LOL. I could read about Ian and Mindy forever! Sigh. I tried to read a small portion at at time, but I've never been a patient woman. I found myself up half the night just reading "one more chapter" until there were no more to read. jC has done such a great job developing the characters in the Bayonet Scars series that I feel like they are part of my family. I'm experiencing separation anxiety. My saving grace is that I can start over and read them all again. Which is what I'm about to do. Now. Like right this minute! Later.

This series keeps getting better with each book. Ian and Mindy characters were written perfectly, you could feel the angsty and emotion, sorrow.
is a heart felt story of love that endures through the haunting ghosts of the past and turns their worlds upside down changing the course of the lives. I will like more in the story a few years latter at the end.
