Clay McGavran was stuck in hell.

Otherwise known as Denson, Virginia - a small town in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains - a town shrouded in the pain and tragedy of the past.

As partner at one of Richmond’s most successful construction and design firms, building someone else’s dream home was his job. But when their dream brought him to the town of his nightmares, he was thrust into a past he’d worked diligently to forget.

The only respite to his misery came from an unexpected - and inconvenient - source.

His new assistant, Alison.

To Clay, Alison was the woman whose perpetual smile and hauntingly familiar eyes were a balm to his scraped and bruised psyche. She was the antithesis of the type of woman he usually took to his bed but he found himself wanting her more than any woman before her.

And, as his employee, she was the one woman he couldn’t have.

His company, friendships, and reputation were at stake. He couldn’t cross that line again. He’d been reckless in the past and it had nearly cost him his company – and his life. But it’s not so easy to walk away when, in the fires of his personal hell, he may have stumbled headlong into his salvation.

Anna Paige is the author of the Broken series, the Thrill of the Chase series, and Off Script, a sexy standalone romance.

She lives in a rural town in North Carolina where the only activity is the rhythmic color change of the solitary stoplight and a very real threat of being carried away by mosquitoes. The only alternative to terminal boredom is writing, making life interesting if only on the page.

Anna is happily married, with one amazing son and a pair of hilarious pets. When she’s not writing, she’s trying to make a dent in her TBR pile. Given that she’s constantly adding new titles to the list, the chances of her ever finishing are slim.

And she’s completely fine with that.

Marissa stood there smirking as she leaned casually on the door frame, wearing scarcely enough clothing to cover her, much less keep her warm. She was my former assistant and most recent in a long line of indiscretions

Never fuck someone you have to look in the eye every day. Ever. It just invites misunderstanding.

I knew I was in trouble when I walked into work one morning and found her sprawled across my desk totally naked.

One fucking time. One stupid slip up.

You and I are either going to come to an understanding or we’re dissolving the partnership. Brant and I will buy you out, if necessary. We’re both tired of your dick getting us into trouble. We’ve bailed you out for years but this time you’re messing with our company.”

From behind the wheel, Marissa jerked her head in my direction as I leapt to safety and the sound of twisting metal filled the air.

“Alright, let’s try this again. Explain to me why you thought dating your assistant was okay, particularly given the shit storm surrounding the last indiscretion. The one that was barely eight months ago, by the way.”

Even though the Marissa thing isn’t public knowledge, we can’t afford another mishap like that.”

After Marissa tried to turn me into roadkill, Spencer had threatened to dissolve the partnership.

I knew this woman from somewhere. But for the life of me I could not recall where.

No. Fucking. The. Employees.

Well, I probably could have rushed through my afternoon with Nicole but I was having a little pre–celebration, celebration, and she was down for anything.

Nicole had been my friend with benefits for the last several months; a willing outlet for my sexual energies with no romantic entanglements to worry about. It was a perfect arrangement.

The truth was while I was balls-deep in Nicole, all I was thinking of was Ali.

A pair of unnaturally firm breasts pressed into my back. “Babe, I haven’t seen those amber eyes in forever. It’s been way too long.” The familiar voice was enough to make my balls shrivel.
“Jessica, how are you?”

We’d had fun for a while, but it fizzled out quickly, at least on my end.

Regardless, I swore I wouldn’t fuck the employees, and I wasn’t. I was just going to make her come a few times. Not the same thing. Just keep telling yourself that, dumbass.

“Come for me, please. I want to taste you like you tasted me.” With that, she slammed my cock to the back of her throat and held it there. I was gone.

“Oh. Well, I’ll have you know that I’m fairly proficient in the kitchen.”
And a fucking genius in the bedroom.

I wanted to protect her, avenge her, fuck her, hold her. And I also wanted to get the hell away from her.

I received an ARC copy of Broken Ground and devoured it in just a few short days. Clay McGavran is a Casanova with a philandering past that threatens the demise of his successful construction company. After promising his partners he can keep business separate from pleasure, Clay returns to his hometown in Virginia and is forced to face his tormented past that he has turned his back on for years. Working in Denson on a house near and dear to his heart Clay meets his new assistant, Alison. Ali is a marketing genius whose emerging career comes to an abrupt halt after her own set of troubles. Escaping the big city she finds herself working for Clay. Are Ali and Clay what each other needs to heal their painful pasts? Can they both find atonement in each other and discover they have a future? For a debut novel, the writing is subperb...flawless, funny, witty, sexy, and steamy. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a love built on redemption. You will not be disappointed.

Broken Ground by Anna Paige Fabulous five-star read. This is the first book in the Broken series, and it kicks off the series with a bang. This story is set in the small sleepy town of Denson, Virginia a small town that has a hard and traumatic past for some of its residents, and stories that others seem determined to keep secret.
Clay McGavran is a partner in a successful construction and design company in Richmond, he builds people their very own dream house, and is very good at it, he started the company with his two best friends Spencer and Brant they are more like three brothers than friends though. The only problem is he runs the risk of losing his company if he can’t keep it in his pants, he has had a little problem with the ladies in his company and that may come back to haunt him, just like the history that is dragging him back to Denton. When his company gets approached by ‘Gran’ to come refurbish and finish a house she has on some land by a lake, the boys can’t turn her down as ‘Gran’ is the unofficial grandma of most of the people of Denson, especially those who need help. Clay must face his past and nightmares by going back to help ‘Gran’ build the house of dreams.
The problem he will face is his new Denton assistant Alison, she may not be his usual type but there is something about her, when they become friends because he can be friends with a woman can’t he? Would he risk his best friends and company for a woman? And will she want too? Ali has her own set of complications and history, and is so stubborn he may have a fight on his hands just to remain friends.
Broken Ground is a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, there is love and passion and some violence as well, there are some scary moments but there are moments that will have your heart soaring. There is also some amazing sex, Anna Paige writes some good scenes in that aspect, they blow themselves off the page.

3,5 stars!

Good read but the drama in the end was a bit too much for my liking.

However, I liked that both characters talked about things that went wrong and didn’t let pride and miscommunication come between them. Absolutely refreshing!

Otherwise it was pretty predictable and there isn’t much else to say about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

4 - 4.5 Stars Really Good

I devoured this book last night and let me tell you that once I started, I couldn't put it down! This book was by a new author for me and so as excited as I was to read it, I was also a bit nervous as to what to expect. The writing I thought was great, the storyline was very good and it flowed pretty seamlessly but I was on the fence with some of the aspects of it when it came to both characters. I guess with both of their past situations, there were parts I didn't care too much for especially Ali's past and wished maybe it had been written about slightly different. Clay's past was truly heartbreaking and I totally felt for him especially once his "issues" were all finally revealed regarding his family:( There was some mystery and suspense and I loved the cast of secondary characters! Talia, oh my, loved this girl and her heartbreaking past nearly did me in at one point. Her and Ali's relationship was so pure and beautiful, true best friends!!!!

With all of that being said and this is going to sound crazy but I felt like the story was so long. OK, it felt long but yet I understand too because of the complexity of the storyline BUT I think I would have preferred it a bit shorter on some of the points. There were a couple of issues that had me baffled and even by the end, I still had no answers. The whole Spencer thing with Marissa, I didn't get that at all and if you read the story you will know. I just didn't understand how HE was dragged into the sexual harassment suit. Something there didn't sit right and/or didn't make sense to me and it was never explained and/or addressed. Also, I didn't get the whole Lauren and Teach situation, it was weird, it made no sense, there was no clear explanation and I was left baffled by it.

Clay and Ali, LOVED them and yet there were parts, I found myself cringing at some of the things they did and/said. I know it sounds funny but some of the things the author had Ali saying just seemed to contradict her character and for me it made her come off as immature sometimes. Now Clay, at the start of the book I am not gonna lie, I was thinking hmmmm not sure I want to read about this guy but let me tell you once I got past the start, I LOVED him:) Clay and Ali were so perfect for each other. I loved how open and fairly honest, lol, they were with one another. OK, maybe some of the honest part was lacking BUT not ever in their feelings for each other and I loved that. They fought for each other, they never gave up and they never let their secrets hinder their growing relationship. I truly adored and cherished them both.

This was truly a great read and I will be continuing with this series because I can't wait to read about Spencer and Brant:) Congrats Author Anna Paige on a wonderful love story!

I received this as my first ARC review! Thank you Anna for writing such an amazing story!
It started off a little slow for me, but as I kept with it I couldn't put it down! Clay was your typical womanizer who was putting his company at risk and had to start walking a narrow line, when along came a bright, strong, independent star, Allison (Ali). There is a strong friendship that's develops, yet both characters are hiding things that eventually start to unravel. As this friendship grows, so do feelings. Clay doesn't know how to handle himself, nor does he feel worth of someone as strong as Ali. As you're taking through their journey, you fall in love with how Clay becomes towards Ali and how she makes him a better man. Ali is amazing! She's not your little mouse, she's strong and doesn't hold her tongue! Loved it and the Willow tree ending!! I can see (crossing my fingers!) a future series of the other two partners in Clays business.
WAIT! Cannot forget about the pushed up against the wall make you crazy sex scenes! I loved her sex scenes! What woman doesn't like to be ravished!

Fab debut novel. I received an ARC and at first the cover was what caught my eye and the blurb too. I love my male POVs so this a off to a great start. I like getting to know Clay slowly his history, his what makes him tick. While he gets introduced as a happy go lucky kind of guy just coasting through, womanizer and charmer. We slowly see that he is clearly motivated by family, friends and his art.

The build up between Clay and Ali started slow and gradually moved further, friends first then maybe slowly more. Ali was great sassy, kind, loyal and no pushover. She wouldn't let him get away with his antics and is pretty upfront. They hashed out things, of course they had their own issues but they sorted it out well, with a push here and there of course.

The suspense angle was intriguing as well, lot of angles and I liked that kept you guessing. I like Anna's writing style fun, fresh with zest and great characters. I'm hoping Spencer, Bran and Talia get books of course and Gran is in them too. Excited to read more from this author.

3.5 stars. Anna Paige is a new author for me, and she gifted me a copy of this book. I enjoyed the book and read it in a couple of days over the weekend. The characters were well written, but I would have liked to have learn more about Brant and Spencer. I would have rated this with four stars, except I thought the characters "thought" too much in the middle of the book and it slowed down the drama and sense of urgency. The book quickly sped up after this lapse and raced on to the finish. I hope that in the following books we will get more information on the machinations behind the lawsuit and Spencer's part in that. *spoiler* I think that the ending of the story lines with Holden Shepard and Marissa needed to be expanded, and I still want to know what the deal is with Teach and Lauren. All and all, well worth the read and a great debut novel. I will certainly read the next book as I want to know more of the stories of the other characters.

This is one of the best books I've read so far this year. It has absolutely everything, it's emotional, it has romance, friendship, a strong female character (Ali) p, a sexy man who're (Clay) , lots of sexiness, angst, drama and a few twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I don't want to give anything away, just know that this book is a total must read and you won't be disappointed. Anna Paige is an incredible author, this book is brilliantly written.
I was lucky to get an ARC of this amazing story in exchange for an honest review.

I simply loved this book, and it was my first time reading a book by this author, and it won't be the last.
Storyline was skillfully written, the characters was super amazing, and i have to say i fell head over heels in love with Cla #Swoon
Clay McGavran one yummy hot alpha male, and one part of CBD - Coastal Building and Design with partners Spencer and Brant..

Okay so Clay sounds hot right, but he has some skeletons in his closet and yeah meaningless s@x was his way of rebelling and pi#$ing of his partners constantly.. So what does this Alpha male need in his live? A supergirl who will knock him off his high horse and bring him down to earth right??

Alison a.k.a. Ali a force to be reckoned with, she doesn't take any s**t from anyone, but she is one tough cookie.. Will she have what it takes to claim Clay's heart and tame him, or will he use her and discard her like the rest.. Their story starts in a small one horse town called Denson, Virginia, and they instantly clicked and became great friends... and!!!!! ( Gonna have to read it for yourself) #Wink

*Suspense*
*Love*
*Danger*
*One awesome granny*
*Friends / Family*
*Hot Alpha Male that will melt your heart and panties (Lol)

and so much more...

Will Clay and Ali get their HEA?

Must Read Book...

This is my first book by this author and the writing is very good. Its a little wordy and overly descriptive for my taste but the storytelling is beautiful. This is book one of a three part series about the three male partners in a company. Its told through Clay's pov and is available through Kindle Unlimited.

Clay and his best friends since childhood own their own design and construction company. He has a past of womanizing and it has gotten him into some trouble with his company. He is sent to do a job for his Gran in his old hometown and he isn't looking forward to it. They have hired him a part time assistant, Ali with a warning to not sleep with the help or he could loose his partnership in the company. Ali is a refreshing change for him and he does all he can to keep it professional but he can't help but fall in love for the first time.

This story also brings parts of his past back to the present that he has never dealt with as was his Grans intentions with the project. It also has Ali's past causing drama for them. I really liked how all of the misunderstandings were dealt with immediately and not drawn out although the other parts of the story slowly unfold. The next book in the series will be Spencer's story.

I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Clay is an architect that is in business with his two best friends. His business is being threatened because of his man whoring ways, his latest escapade with his last assistant. His partners are fed up and have given him an ultimatum cemented by a contract, no more involvement with employees or he is out of the business. He is starting a new build in a town he hoped never to return to with a new assistant picked by his partners. Alison is Clay's new partner and they both have a past they hope never comes to the light of day.

BROKEN GROUND
by Anna Paige

This was a new author and a great debut read. Anna Paige really takes you on a journey where you get to know the characters get to feel like you are traveling on the journey with them as they experience the ups and downs of their relationships past and present. Really enjoyed the sense of small town she portrays the sense of drama friendship companionship etc between the main and supporting characters. This book will give you all that you love when you're looking for a good read with some twists and turns thrown in to make it a truly great read.

This is one of the best books I have read so far this year. I love how Anna writes her stories and draws inspiration from the simplest things. I enjoyed how organic the relationship between Ali and Clay started out and then bang explosive. The mystery of who was creating the most drama was thrilling and I actually struggled to pick someone out of the list of suspects. Anna Paige as become one of my favourite authors, from me reading two of her books and that's because she is a phenomenal writer and story teller.

Anna Paige is a new author to me. Broken Ground covered so much heart ache and finally love.

So many people hurting and no one able to talk about one night for so long that it caused so much pain. The way this one night shaped so many lives... incredible description and detail. The characters are brought to life as the story unfolds.

This is the story of Clay and Alison, their families and friends.

Broken Ground
This is Anna's debut novel and may I say it is so beautifully written. Broken Ground takes place in the sleepy little town of Denson Virginia. This is town full of secrets and hiding the pain and tragedy of the people that live there.
Clay and Alison were beautifully written. Their lives pulled me in and I had to love all of them including the broken parts. Such a fabulous tale!

This was my first book by this author and I was so glad I decided to take a chance. I fell in love with Ali and Clay and their chemistry was off the charts. Clay was a “manwhore” and Ali lost trust in relationships and wasn’t ready to jump in, yet when they meet sparks go off. True love is able to weather any storms and tribulations and this book did not disappoint. Looking forward to the next book.

This was a good story with a good plot and characters I could believe in. This author is a seasoned writer, and everything was well put together. The plot flowed and gripped in the right places and it was nicely paced. With quite a large cast of characters and a number of different settings, the book had a lot of movement, and Paige does it well. I liked the ending, it had a couple of twists I was not predicting, and I love when authors surprise me. At the end of the book is an excerpt for the next book in the series, Flawlessly Broken, which I'm hoping to be able to read soon.
